The culture is based partly on policy, but also on Hubbard's confidential instructions. <snip> Even spitting in people's faces originated with written instructions from Hubbard. <snip>.

This is not tolerated in the hard core US Marine Corps. Son told me of an incident of a drill sergeant spitting in a recruit's mouth, and said drill sergeant was demoted from Staff Sergeant (E6) to Private (E1) and assigned shit work for the rest of his enlistment and then discharged.

Do I have a "blind spot" about all this?

I know when one gets older and has a bit more wisdom, you really see that "you can't take it with you" and money for money's sake has a lot different importance to you than when you're younger.

Can ya help me on this one?

Whatta wonderful post, ILove2Lurk.

Unfortunately, it will be tomorrow before I am able to give you my detailed response…which I will do.

For now, when I talk about the “Gold” I’m not just talking about the money…although that’s part of the driver. I apolize that I was not clear in what I wrote...I've written so much on ESMB about El Ron and Scn that I just assume that my meanings are self evident. Of course, they are to me...but I tend to be too much a "Preacher" when I'm actually just another member of the "Choir".

The “Gold” is not just money--it’s “Dominion Over Others”; it’s the feeling of “Capturing" another’s rapt "Attention"; it’s the sensation of receiving “Admiration” for one’s “Identity”; it’s the “Thrill” of having “Gambled” and, in one’s personal estimation, having “Won”; it’s the “Lust” for the “Power” of having shown others “The Way”.

For some “Ultra Rich” in Ego, Power and/or Monetary "Wealth" they actually are, in their view, “taking 'IT' with them”. They’re taking with them the perceived “Control”, “Legacy” and/or “Identity”.

Just my opinion. :confused2:

I can't believe that this brutality has been reported for years in the papers, on tv, via the internet, etc. and nothing has been done about it.

I remember a couple of years back that a mormon group, in Texas I believe, was raided by some US government body regarding the unlawful marrying of young mormon children. Or something like that.

Well, DM is doing unlawful stuff, so why no invest? Why did the FBI invest suddenly peter out? Hmmmmm, I smell a rat. I bet you all know what I'm thinking.

Before I noticed it in Scientology, I was reading authors like Vance Packard (when I was in my teens in the 1960s), If you read "Up The Organization" by Robert Townsend (I'm dating myself), he was the guy , who turned Avis around and made it number two in car rentals or "Swimming With The Sharks" by Harvey MacKay or any of dozens of business books, you can't help but walk away knowing that the corporate culture comes from the TOP. In Hyatt Hotels, the Pritzkers set the tone. In Howard Hughes' ventures (Hughes Tool and Die, TWA, casinos, etc) Howard set the tone. At Disney, Walt set the tone. (I continue to date myself). Juan Trippe set the tone at Pan Am. Steve Jobs set the tone at Apple. Bill Gates.......

businesses run on culture. The leader, the top banana sets the culture.

At Apple, perfection, simplicity, elegance, user friendly are absolutes. Mediocrity isn't hired.

check out the new Pan Am Tv show (ABC Sunday nights), they make it very clear that the pilots and crew were the best of the best. That is company culture.

At Hyatt Hotels, executives have to spend a week or two a year (I haven't googled this, just remember it) on the front desk of a Hyatt Hotel. It is important for the executives to be in touch with the real world.

In Scientology there was all the written words. None of that mattered compared to the stats. Money. $$$$$$. Deutshmarks. Pounds Sterling. Krugerrand. The culture was greed. Greed from the TOP.

back in 1976, when I walked away from briefing course grad, OT, and my own center, when the prices were being jacked up 10 per cent a month, i had no problem identifying WHO was at the top. The reges were hungry for money. Money was something Flag would lie to you about. I had a post dated check for five figures cashed instantly. Money was what was the highest of the high , in terms of priorities. PCs were lied to. Not occasionally, but universally. It was all about money.

NOWHERE IN POLICY DOES IT SAY REGES, C/Ses, D of Ps, cashiers should lie to the public. Yet it was done on every single person who came to Flag. Every last one. This is why I say culture trumps policy. The culture was to get the $$$ BUCKS$$$, not deliver as per policy.

The closer you got to "source" (I say that J & D ingly) the greedier and hungrier the jackals. I never went to college (other than a few real estate and IT courses), but it didn't take a genius to see where the "greed" culture came from.

if you don't know WHO I'm talking about, call me, I have a bridge I want to sell you.

I don't know how many times I've seen whateverthehell reference it is that says to beg, borrow or steal regarding getting up the bridge. If a policy was needed to enforce something that was being done, it was found because it existed. Out of context or not...is another story. Idiots interpreted the innuendo to justify their ends. I used to hold the idiot mortals responsible and excuse their actions of misapplying the, obviously good, policy, because they were obviously untrained or unaudited. Eventually I was to see that this was, indeed, not the problem! I saw a lot of mental abuse but not physical. An awful lot of mind-fuck.

All parasites are "slow burn" predators.

Sam Peckinpah showed us that violence is more tolerable in slow motion.

El Ron was a parasite. Hisself’s Organizational and Management construct is parasitic, as is Scn.

What you saw in the eyes of the Staff Members and what they saw in the eyes of the Public was the ultra slow motion violence that was, step by step, measure by measure, being meted out unto each and every one of Us.

If anything, the COS seems like an automatic machine that's been set up to gather money on one end and waste it on the other. Sorta mulching money like a tree trimming machine out into the air.

This is a very interesting observation, and very true.

Your post was fine, but this one paragraph departs from reality.

Lying is built into the doctrine of Scientology. It permeates. Hubbard did the lying and the others are the dupes and enablers.

To clarify the term, "Policy."

In Scientology, per the "tight conspiracy" (Hubbard's term) model that Scientology's founder created in the 1960s, there is policy (selected - to be promoted to wogs, raw meat, and new public - selected items, from the Green Volumes and other places, such as 'The Way to Happiness' booklet, etc.), and Policy (in the Green Volumes), and then there is POLICY (not in the Green Volumes, confidential HCOPLs), and then there is P_O_L_I_C_Y (which is not in the form of Hubbard Communication Office Policy Letters, and are instructions directly from L. Ron Hubbard at the highly confidential level. These instructions cover finance, Intelligence, Propaganda, PR, Sea Org matters, legal, and anything about which Hubbard chose to pontificate in his highly confidential writings and taped briefings.)

So, when a Scientologist says, "Policy," what does he or she mean?

What does it mean when a rank-and-file foot-soldier-level Scientologist says, "Policy"?

As early as 1952 in a lecture, and again in 1955 in a Bulletin, Hubbard sanctioned lying:

"A datum is an invention which has become agreed upon and so solidified. To get into this state it has to be agreed upon. When it is thoroughly agreed upon it becomes a truth...

"The word lie is simply an invention with a bad connotation... The society frowns upon the invention of facts..."

Lying in Scientology flows downward. Hubbard could lie to his followers, and those high in the organization could lie to those lower, but it was seldom regarded as lying, but as "handling." Meanwhile, the average Scientologist is expected to open wide his mind, completely, to inspection by those above him.

It's quite a system.

Today I am posting Jeff Hawkins reports of assault and battery by Miscavige.
Jeff is a close personal friend of mine.
He posts on this board as "FishDaddy".

jeff-hawkins-2.jpg

Above image ~~ is how Jeff looked when we were on the Flagship Apollo in the 1970s.
Jeff served in the Sea Org for 35 years. We shared huge amounts of parallel time track.
He wrote the book "Counterfeit Dreams" http://www.amazon.com/Counterfeit-D...5642/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320305488&sr=8-1

JeffHawkins.jpg

This image is Jeff today.

In "Counterfeit Dreams" David Miscavige punchings and beatings are very articulately portrayed in his book.
For those that don't know him he was the marketing manager who created the DMSMH marketing campaign which put DMSMH back on the NY Times Best Seller list in the 1980s) made these comments in 2009 and 2010:
“I never saw [Rinder] abusing others, despite the abuse he received from Miscavige. Mike was, without question, THE most abused person at the Int Base. He was rarely allowed to sleep. He was physically beaten by Miscavige on many occasions. How he managed to carry on with his work and deal with media I do not know. He has great reserves of strength, which I hope are serving him well now that he is out.”
” CNN: ‘You’ve worked with Marty Rathbun. You’ve worked with Mike Rinder. The Church told us, that they were the ones leading this reign of terror, that Marty was the one responsible for these beatings.’
“Jeff: ‘Absolutely not true. Absolutely not true. David Miscavige was the one leading this whole physical violence kick. And it was him who was beating people up. … [Miscavige once] jumped on the conference room table, with his feet right on the conference table, launched himself across the table at me — I was standing — battered my face and then shoved me down on the floor.’
“Jeff: ‘Miscavige was always threats, bullying, haranguing people, verbal abuse, physical abuse. That was his game. He is a bully.’”

ILove2Lurk,

Here's the rest of my "Take" re: your earlier post. This is just my opinion and "educated guess" and conjecture.

However, in normal commercial businesses in the world there's a purpose for all the pressure and greed: someone(s) get rich. Real rich. Millions and billions rich. Whether it's CEOs, partners, employees. shareholders, etc.

I don't see this happening in the COS though, unless I'm missing something extraordinary. The only people that might be getting personally rich in all of this is maybe DM, though it's not really easily provable, and then a bunch of lawyers and PIs, maybe.

DM may not actually pocket in his name a ton of dough but he controls hundreds upon hundreds of millions of $. He lives in luxury (particularly when compared to his subordinate legions), eats the finest foods, wear’s tailor made cloths, etc, etc just as El Ron did. I would guess from what I read that there are a few others, off and on at the “top”, that get to participate in some “scraps” doled out for the sake of camouflaging DM’s obscene consumption, as well.

Big time execs and corporate big shots do much the same thing and the business folks do love making tons of dough for the most part. However, they also love the power and the thrill of “living large” and being “in the loop”, so to speak. However, there are some that are very passionate about what they do such as self made entrepreneurs and some are most generous and altruistic.

And, let’s not forget the politicians. :melodramatic:

If anything, the COS seems like an automatic machine that's been set up to gather money on one end and waste it on the other. Sorta mulching money like a tree trimming machine out into the air. When it's just easy to get (donations with no exchange), it's real easy to waste and toss around.

A most apropos analogy.

I’ve told a few El Ron stories about $ I saw him waste frivolously but, overall, Hisself was more a hoarder and expensive, custom toy consumer and self indulger. El Ron also loved owning big toys…like St. Hill Manor and the Apollo. DM is, IMO, somewhat cut from the same cloth but he doesn’t have to “lay low” like Hisself did.

Yes, Scn does do some really stupid stuff with some of the money but--at least when I was near the “top” and from what I can see from the periphery now--the amount blown away in the breeze is a pittance compared to what is routinely rat-holed.

Without tax exemption and virtual slave labor staff, Scn wouldn’t have the dough to waste and rat-hole and would have to change its business model completely or fold. If Scn provided its’ personnel the pay, berthing, food, training, medical and benefits package that the US Military does it would probably take at least $75 million a year to cover that. Add in all the various forms of taxes (especially property) and then complying to all the workplace and other laws Scn skirts around you’re looking at around $100 million minimum just to have the lights on and the staff sitting at their desks.

Staff get the mostess and biggest “warm and fuzzies”, bonuses and perks when they make dough that oils the “machine”. Being a money maker in the SO makes one several cuts above one's fellow crew and “special”. If a highly trained auditor or C/S blows the org is shocked. If a big money making reg or exec blows it’s a catastrophe. Staff have been indoctrinated--subtly and indirectly--that having tons of dough in Reserves is “vital” to the “guarantee” that Scn and the "Bridge" is safe, secure and will always be there. :whistling:

Same goes with the Hubbard estate. Where did all that go? Doesn't seem like the family got enough to talk about. If it all went to build the caves to store the engraved steel plates, well today there's much more affordable solutions to store digital data nearly forever.

The family got stiffed. El Ron’s Estate was considerable and well in excess of what the “Archives” project probably cost…the project was also done with virtual slave labor. The reason it was done the way it was done was because there were very specific El Ron Orders on how it was to be done. I would also guess that most of the dough that went into the Archives project was “new” money. It is more a “monument” and “mausoleum” than a cost effective storage system. It is also probably due to some Space Opera delusions that El Ron was playing out.

When El Ron died the lion’s share of the dough (well over a hundred million $) Hisself controlled was in Sea Org Reserves and DM et al took over control of that. Where that money is today (and it has been added to considerably since then) and what is being done with it is anybody’s guess. I seriously doubt that all that loot is in one big pile somewhere, snoozing.

In which case, all the work that went into amassing the small personal fortune was for naught in the end. Nothing came of it as far as I can see. Just frittered away maybe. Did it go back into the SO reserves, the war chest?

And, so it often is with corporeal wealth. However, it also depends upon the perspective as to whether or not it was all for naught. El Ron’s “wealth” was not just the money he personally held or what he personally controlled. To Hisself--and some other wealthy folks--their “Legacy” is part of their “Immortal Identity”. Without El Ron’s misrepresented, fabricated and fallacious “Legacy” Scn has got bupkis and they know that. But, so it is with many guru persona based pseudo-religions…and actual religions for that matter.

Where would Christianity be without the “Immaculate Conception”, “Lazarus” and the “Resurrection”? Same goes for Judaism, Islam, Hindu, etc, etc. When my parents were trying to beat the “Love of Jesus” into me, I realized that if Jesus returned today he would revolted by what has been done in His name and would forthwith be escorted out of just about any “Christian” church He walked in to. Big mistake when I told my parents my “realization” about Jesus. :duh:

Scn has spent and spends a lot of dough implementing and maintaining El Ron’s explicit instructions on “preserving” and promoting Hisself’s “Legacy”. It’s Scn’s “Story of Jesus” and, from Hisself’s perspective--and Scn’s--well worth the dough…even though much of the world snickers and knows the real story.

El Ron’s personal largess and “Fair Market” Net Worth at the time of Hisself’s death was assuredly in excess of what “the books” showed. In today’s Dollars it was most likely in the range of $100 Million…more than a “small personal fortune”, IMO. Hisself was, functionally, probably one of the 1,000 wealthiest people in the world in 1986...as is DM in 2011.

I guess I don't understand the ongoing motivation to keep amassing money here. In the real world, someone benefits directly and there's the daily motivation.

IMO, the motivation for most Scns is not the same motivation as the folks at the top in the “Inner Circle”. Over time, as I went from “raw meat” in a CL IV Org to the “Inner Circle”, it was a steady series of “veils” pulled back and finally one day there I was--standing behind all the smoke and mirrors looking into El Ron’s eyes and realizing that Hisself wasn’t what all the “earthlings” down below were leading each other to believe. There was definitely a “daily motivation” but just what that motivation was depended entirely on where you were and “who or what” you were.

My personal “Gold Standard” is folks like Socrates who lived what he taught; Krishnamurti who called "BS!" and walked away when people started worshipping him; Mahatma Gandhi who taught by how he lived.

Like I said, we have no idea where all the hundreds upon hundreds of millions of $ of “Parishioners Donations” are and what has been and is being done with it. And, thanks to the U.S. Government’s Gestapo Branch (IRS), we’ll probably never know.

Legally, DM shouldn't be able to do this. Inurement.

“Legally”, “Justly”, “Rightfully” and “Fairly” are not all the same thing. Unfortunately, a whole bunch of money can buy a whole lotta “legally” and that’s what, so far, “protects” DM externally. What “protects” DM internally is the myth that he alone holds “the Keys to the Kingdom”, that the “Kingdom” is “real” and that El Ron El Rey stands there in the Majick Boots, waiting to greet they that are “tough enough” to make it there. :eyeroll:

Do I have a "blind spot" about all this?

I never got the money angle, either…that’s one of the reasons I walked away.

Can ya help me on this one?

I hope all this helps. Great post.

How Jeff Hawkins disconnected from the Sea Org.

He threw his GOLD RING into the Pacific Ocean.
Excerpt from his book "Counterfeit Dreams"

QUOTE (JEFF's words)
I took a long walk down State Street in Santa Barbara, all the way to the beach. At the end of State Street, Stearn’s Wharf juts out into the Pacific Ocean. It is a long pier, filled with shops and restaurants. I walked all the way to the end, past all the souvenir shops, past the fishermen with their lines dangling into the water. I walked to the very end and looked out over the broad Pacific. It was a bright and sunny day, white clouds on the horizon, and distant sailboats tacking in the wind. I felt the salt breeze in my face, the warm sun.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out a heavy gold ring. It was blocky and ugly, a huge square with the number 25 embossed on it, and over that, the Sea Org symbol. It had been presented to me in 1996, for 25 years service in the Sea Org. I felt its weight in my hand.

Then I spun and with all the force I could muster, hurled it in a long curving arc out over the waves. It disappeared without a trace.

I turned and walked back towards town.

Face,

Thanks so much for all your point-by-point "educated guessing" and "conjecturing." You do it good.

My guilty pleasure: I've got to admit I've read through all your posts (approaching nearly a 100,000 words now if you can believe it) twice through all the way. I knew someone had to take the plunge and I thought I might be up for the task. (Though I did put my doctor on my speed dial in case I had any difficulties traversing Face's "wall of words.") :omg:

Midway through I watched A Face in the Crowd a second time (love that movie) and even took a peek at Children of the Corn. Both movies actually add a lot to getting inside your chronicles. Children of the Corn is a very apt nickname, BTW. I get why you chose it now.

Surprisingly, I came through on the other end of this double reading spiritually unscathed and very clear headed. Maybe one of the first souls to do this successfully. And much more confident and unconfused about many things COS and SO and LRH.

I know what it takes to write that many words. People are really enjoying and benefiting from your posts here.

I like to think I've read most of everything there is to read on the Internet about COS / SO / LRH and I have to say I don't know of anything quite like your stories and commentaries. Quite the education! Why I came here to the board years ago.

Just keep on keepin' on, Face. :coolwink:

"We own quite a bit of property over the world. We will be acquiring more, as well as some countries."

L. Ron Hubbard, 1971

"The next pattern: It's reap and rape. Hubbard would let the reins loose. He'd let people believe they really could get on with it... He'd let people believe they really could prosper to the full extent of their own ability, and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

"And, with that kind of freedom, prosperity does occur, Inevitably, though, he'd come along and rape and pillage and rip off and take what had been produced. The most dramatic example of this was '82, '83, when he 'raped' his most decent people in management along with the mission holders, and looted the entire mission network."

Martin Samuels, 1986

"He told me he was obsessed with an insatiable lust for power and money. He said it very emphatically. He thought it wasn't possible to get enough. He didn't say it as if it was a fault, just his frustration that he couldn't get enough."

David Mayo, 1986 (concerning the late 1970s)

"Miscavige is doing his best to forward Command Intention, which is contained in the huge LRH orders database of the INCOMM computer system of Scientology."
