Hey,I wasn't a punk maybe other things but not a punk. In fact we wouldn't have a revolt in the church if it hadn't been for me. Also, at that point I hadn't met DM and didn't until yet another RPF stint in '78 and then a year or two at flag.

I don't know you but sorry if I stepped on your toes.

Also, this reply is a bit late. best Bill Franks 2 April '12

I grew up with Jimmy De Angelo and I may have been helpful in getting him "in" :omg:. He was in California the last I heard. I haven't talked to him in 25 years. With a little effort I could find him if you wish. We have many mutual friends from back in the day. PM me if you want to locate him.

I escaped right before Franks came. You are correct Don Cooper died recently. Cancer I think. There is another poster on this board from that era who will know for sure about how he died. The Esto Course, what fond memories I have of that thing, wink, wink. :duh: Remember his wife, Pandora? She did a spread for Hustler a long time ago. I know you couldn't forget her, clothed or unclothed. :flasher:

Gordon I hear is happily out in Arizona. I've often wondered about what happened to Ned. He was a talented guitar player as I recall. CC is probably back in Atlanta sipping Mint Juleps. She was a wild one.

I lost track of the rest on your list.

Mr. Shoup would be 153 years old by now. I remember stealing figs from his tree next to the org. I don't particularly like figs, I think I was just hungry.

Please ask him if he remembers the all nighters with Tom in cf listening to LeD Zep.

I just asked him-via - email--it'll take a day or so if he bothers to open his computer. He might want to take this interest further --i need to know who you are--because both he and I are cautious -besides I was there at the same time. If you wish send me a private message--I check into esmb sporadically but will answer your queires.

ahhhh...

lovers! how they spare us all the hardest edge of life. ron wrote once "if you were looking for hell and found earth you'd be satisfied" and aren't there days to bless those words with an aura of truth.

then you look at craig and barbara in their sundappled jewel box home craig erected in the pennsylvania wood and know such does not occur in hell

tom is ok sammie

I like Craig Waters. He was a hippie. Craig was cool. Craig is my kind of guy.

yeah, yeah, yeah craig is a hippy, a-team and old school but man you should see beau. craig is barbara's beau up perkiomen but beau is barbara's craig in the hashberry. among my poor man's small treasures none more cherished than my matched pair of barbara's set like bookends to a continent. beau. is a hippy. hard core deadhead from way back. long hair. broken nose. crusty bellbottoms. college bandleader jacket. need an eightball of mohaskey? beau and barb are chasing this month's rent and he'll tighten you up. the two of 'em have been living a month's rent at a time for, cheeses! about a quarter of a century now. raised a bright sassy hippie chick daughter. the sort of boho lovers you'd scarce believe could exist outside a brautigan. i've known them since before they hooked up. boggles the mind such a grungy no-account could hold the love of so fine a beauty as barb. she's an aquarius and athabasca back east is a libra. a pair of air signs; a pair of zephyrs filling their sailors' sails. both simple, graceful, centered and grounded and lyric. both aging so slowly as though time were a paint brush in the hand of a master who but catch the light of a passing year and record it in the gentlest strokes and not deny they are each ever the young women they have always been...

I asked-he says he doesn't remember and has forgotten about those days--you need to send more info if you so wish-he's open to more info and is interested. Hope this makes sense.

Thought I had outgrown this place but the above posts about hippies (Craig Waters) just sucked me right in. I for one am grateful I survived the 60s/70s without going over the edge. Different problems now, but living month to month is not one of them! Now my perspective is that of a parent--what do Craig's parents think of all this? I would be devastated to realize my kids turned into the burned out generation. Ofcourse I am sure no one gives a flying squirrel about what I think. And that is fine with me.

hi....I've been reading the messages from the 'circa 1970' period and find that i'm in
a couple of the pictures.....was on staff from 1971 to 1975 before i was transferred to
LA. Were you there around that time? Am wondering if we know each other....i guess i'll wait to hear back, if i do....before i give you my name because even writing on this message board is a little weird for me

just joined the message board....seems like we might have been at FCDC around the same time. i was there from '71 to '75 at which time i was sent out to LA. for some reason i'm hesitant to give you my name right now....i'll wait to see if you write back:)

We probably know each other.

There are quite a few people from that time period at FCDC here, although some have moved on and do not post much anymore.

It's good to have you join us and great to meet up with someone who was on staff back then.

Hey, I just want to thank everyone for sharing the memories and anecdotes in this thread. (In fact I just joined the forum to do so.)

I was never a Scientologist but felt a connection to the old org on S Street as I lived one block away, down 21st. My former girlfriend (mentioned a couple of times in the thread above) went on staff sometime around 1974, I think, so I visited the org a couple of times to meet up with her. I dont think I ever bought a book, but I must have taken the personality test or something because I was on the mailing list for years.

Reading this thread reinforces many of my own blurry impressions of S Street and Scientology -- mainly that, despite some underlying weirdness that didn't appeal to me (but didn't weird me out either), the actual people involved seemed like a friendly, outgoing and energized. You folks, or anyway those I interacted with, struck me as quite sincere, and your personal spiritual quests didn't seem to different from my own at that time, though I was on more of an Eastern/yogic track.

I guess for many of us, things seem to shift around a bit when one looks back at them. I remember, for instance, my ex mentioning 'the Guardians' with obvious fascination. Indirectly that's the way I googled my way to this thread, via Mary Sue etc. Whoa! Who knew?

Anyway ... Just an old neighbor saying hi.

Hi!

Thanks for this post.

We were a unusual bunch there at that time.

We were a lot of ex-hippies and ideological kids that stumbled onto Scientology and thought we found somoe answers.

But our mistake is that we were asking the wrong questions.

But it was a worthwhile although difficult experience.

And a lot of fun sometimes. The pressure was fun.
