Well, it takes all sorts.

As I said, taking mind-altering substances wasn't consistent with what I was doing in scientology so I stopped doing it. I found it very easy to quit, and the same went for stopping smoking 50 years later.

When I read what Ron had to say about "the drug personality", I thought it was stupid. I had known too many different people who took LSD or pot or other drugs, and they didn't share a common personality, nor were they irresponsible as was inferred by those materials. Once I got out of the Church and found out about Hubbard's own drug use, I realized it was the "Bolt from the Blue" that he didn't want to talk about when he said he had "somehow risen above the bank", etc.

I should have realised all was not well and that Hubbard did not know 'all there was to know about everything' when I read the nonsense he wrote about LSD before someone had a word in his ear later and the HCOB got re-written, but as many of us know too well, one develops a blind-spot regarding Hubbard's shortcomings and simply sweeps them under the carpet. More's the pity!

In my day, you'd be out the door in a flash. Drug use wasn't tolerated even remotely and if the CO's or HAS's or whatever didn't bust you the GO would have made sure you were out of the org.

That's not to say it didn't happen. But in my experience none of the key folks would dream of getting high. Even drinking to a point of inebriation wasn't done much.

Patti would know a lot more about this than I.

We're talking about an organization that gets on your case if you wack off. Tolerating pot or acid use would get you gone fast? I guess things changed.?

yeah, when I was in, that stuff wasn't tolerated at all either. I was in long before and after you were, uniquemand, but opposite orgs. I'm surprised they tolerated it as much as you say they did. I only know of 1-2 Fdn staff members that even smoked pot once or twice and they got seriously nailed for it. If it happened on any kind of regular basis, they'd be out for sure. Even public who did that kind of thing were seriously slammed. People got sent to ethics and did lowers for taking aspirin.

On a side note, I chuckle when I hear people say stuff like, "I smoke pot every day and do acid regularly and it doesn't affect me at all."

I suppose I should appreciate the fact that the COS told me to stop smoking pot and I did. I was what you'd call an habitual user. Funny when I look back on it. This was a big change. Pot smoking was an integral part of my life as was drinking. Oddly, LRH didn't actually say you couldn't be a Scieno if you used drugs. Drug use was prohibited while on course or during auditing. But the super-control oriented Scieno's had to run that part of your life. Wasn't a bad thing.
 
I'd already quit before I got in. Stuff just made me big time paranoid. Stopped being fun, so I channeled that energy into alcohol. ;)
 
Got back involved with a Scio in Boston today...uh oh

Wow, it's been slow on the Boston thread. I suppose no news is good news.

So I had a wonderful interaction with a scientologist this evening.
I was gifted a ticket to see Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock in concert at Symphony Hall.
Really wonderful performance. I suppose you could say Chick was in comm with his audience.
Yet the same could also be said about Herbie.

:)
 
Forgive me if these are posted somewhere on this 99 page thread, but I just happened across the Boston Ideal Org page last night and was reading their Ideal Org update newsletters with grim fascination. Not surprising is that the most recent one was posted in Sept 2012.

More hilarity on this page: notice the quote about "iDeal Orgs". The OT Amabassador attributes it to an HCOPL in her welcome message while the part she quotes is from an LRH ED. Now, I'm not going to look up the HCOPL and maybe there is such with this quote, but the quote is attributed to two different sources ON THE SAME PAGE. :bong: [ to LoneStar - I got my bong back. So there.:coolwink:
 
I saw that Nick Pietrunti attested to New OTVII completion.

Nick was an amazingly loyal and steadfast body router for the Boston Day Org. No matter how cold or hot, he'd be out there shilling for LRH. A very fun guy. He also started the Portland City Office, which has been closed for some time.

Too bad he's in.

Nick Pietrunti! LOL! A Scientologist to the core. Let me tell you about Nick Pietrunti and what it's like to be a crazed zealot like Nick.

Some time in the 90's. I volunteered to hold the post of Div 6 course sup for a week. I did this because some poor staff member wanted a week with their family and I took over their post for a week ( I took no money from them) so they could spend time with their family.


So here I am, holding the Div6 Course sup post and Nick Pietruni comes in to "product officer" me for his stats. I have only (2) two people in the div six course room working on a div 6 service and I'm the course sup, hoping to get them to cog that Scn is the best thing since sliced bread! Nick says I want to give you a target for the number of completions in your Div 6 course room today. I said sure, thinking that I had two people on course so I could have two completions. Nick said, "Your target is six!

It was a moment of cognitive dissonance. I have two people on course but you want 6 completions? WTF, reality gets a great big shake.
 
If there was a way someone here could get updated photos of the org, staff entering/leaving, any public etc. and posting them here, that would be awesome.

Oh yeah!!

That's the product officering that I remember!

Totally outrageous targets that you'd be coerced into saying, "Okay" to. Duhhhhhh!!! :melodramatic::melodramatic:

I think Paul Disher was the king of that trick but LRH was the master!

I found myself agreeing to stupid targets which were all based on wild hopes. Then I'd get in trouble for not making the targets.

The problem was LRH would set unrealistic goals and if you didn't make the target you'd end up in the RPF. This set the stage for a horrible staff experience for any staff member as one leapt from one stressful Thursday at 2 to the next.

I think Nick got in sometime around 1975. That means it takes someone as super-dedicated as Nick 40 YEARS to reach the top of the "Bridge to Total Freedom". Actually, he still needs to do OT VIII. Wonder how much his bridge has cost him so far? I guarantee he didn't make the money required while body routing.

I wish him well.
 
Ah the joy of stats. For a while, it seems like it was all about all hands, all the time. Get so many call in appointments and so many event confirms, write so many letters, do so many handouts, such and such time on renovations, AND 5X your stats this week. Oh, and don't forget to get your study time in.

Honestly it came to a point where you'd get screamed at a lot more for setting a low stat quota than you would for setting a high one and not meeting it.

"WHAT? You only plan to hire 10 people this week? You're sabotaging the expansion of the org!"

vs.

"You're quota was hiring 20 people this week. You only hired 1. Not OK."

I'd just set a quota for whatever I knew my senior would accept. And then go through my normal routine of not coming anywhere close to that quota and dealing with it. Of course, occasionally, there would be flashes of reality rearing its ugly head: "20 people? HOW are you going to DO that???"

sigh.
 
Right, and don't forget Source Hour. What a pain in the ass! Its like there was finally a window to escape home after 6pm and you get caught to go to Source Hour. So aggravating!

Listening to LRH blather on for an hour after no sleep for days and a full weekend of post. I remember literally pinching myself to stay awake at source hour. Must have had MUs.
