Enquiring minds want to know, do you engage in metaphysical conversations with your fares?

quite often...

but i found out early you need to be careful what you say

i started driving cab in 1974 in new york and i was always willing to accept any fare but many NYC cabbies would avoid going to brooklyn so passengers would often ask if i wanted to go to a borough. i had a very cavalier response. i'd often say "i'll take you anywhere you want to go. i'll take you all the way to hell as long as you pay the tolls both ways"...

i really honestly did not believe anyone was ever going to take me up on that offer...

Hey, I feel like the luckiest guy on earth to have been able to play Bach and Brahms. No experience like being in the middle of an orchestra playing a Brahms symphony. Laying into the string for all I am worth, just Winnie's emotion on his sleeve. Unfortunately no one here has ever heard me in an orchestra, piano trio or string quartet performance. Didn't used to feel this way when I was paid to do it. Now in my "elder statesman" mode, where I refuse to accept money to play, and only play for the joy of it, do I appreciate what gift playing an instrument is.

Oh my! My love for you just expanded several hundred times.

OK, Winnie the Pooh, I must ask you a most deep question of paranormal spiritual meaning: Are you an A = 440ist or an A = 432ist? I am definitely a 432ist.

You're evil. :smack: :stone: :flamewar:

Have you seen the old "A=432" discussion in the Apollo thread? Probably not, eh? :giggle:

No, I haven't seen it. Will have to go look.

But I would think that you, as a German, would appreciate Bach's "A" more than most on this board. :p

Had you ever stringed-up a guitar (or a mandolin) with ultra-lights, you would definitely not appreciate A=480. The strings might break before you have them in tune. If you used ultra-heavies instead... well, I have at least 1 instrument who's neck would definitely not appreciate that.

Therefore, A=440 is for me, all the way. :wink2:

The only thing I string is a 1/2 size cello. I'm a low brass guy, myself.

I have been studying, and painting, and playing, with what is popularly known as "Sacred Geometry", since '91-2 and the 432 hits ye olde nail right upon ye olde head.

Yes, and have been all my life. In fact the International Federation of Musicians adopted A=440 in 1917. Anyway, I find it a bit unbelievable for Boston to use 444. I mean all musicians have been trained for a long time at 440. It would drive new talent NUTS. Look, there has to be some agreement in order to make music. I know soloists sometimes intentionally tune a bit high, but even that is rare now.

There is a very high premium on fine intonation today. Very high standard, and the oboe player giving a sharp A will get a lot of criticism.
