Remeber the letters we had to write? "Are you there?". Yikes.

Letters

I think she means the all hands letter writing staff had to do. The quickest way to get the letter written was just to write "are you there" and send it off. Or at least put it in the basket. 50/50 chance that the dir comm would not have enough $ to put postage on them, so they'd just get put outside somewhere, later to be dumped.

But speaking of letters out, remember Susan Spring Olsen and her crew of letter regges? What a job.

Kristi's site contains a lot of Clear numbers for people (including mine), although I don't see one under "Bikerchick". Well, there's a 1979 one for a "Kevin Bikerchick", but that must be someone else.

I think my Clear number was 2000 and something but I can't find it anywhere. Not that it matters, I was idly searching one day. :D

Anyway, here are some trivia questions about staff members at FCDC in 1972 to have fun with:

Who were the four sets of brother-and-sister that were on staff in 1972? (one of the sisters may not have been on staff yet)

Who were the two brothers?

Who was the only staff member that was born west of the Mississippi?

Who were the three guys who went to Villanova? (Or so I thought)

Who were the two Canadians? (not counting Dan Deming if he was a Canadian)

Who were the two engineering students who were from a college in Pennsylvania? (Or so I thought)

Who lived in the Parachute room?

Who were the two groups of three family members?

Name seven people who had moustaches. (Just the guys)

I've only been posting on this site for about a week, at first i had a bunch of anger coming out, but now i'm having some good laughs, reading the different posts from you guys. It's great to be here. I'm not one for posting anything, but i do enjoy this. I've seen some great ideas for handling the calls that I still get after 20 years.

Nozeno, there were two sons and the dad at FCDC around 1980, the Austins, i don't know if they were all on staff or not. I know John A was, he worked in Addresso on that dinosaur machine that broke down every 20 minutes or so and the letters and envelopes would go all over the place. :pullhair: :pullhair:

some more DC names.... Mallory Pasco, Manyann Lamb, David Lamb, Mickey Rourke, who else was there?

Sorry Bikerchick, I escaped seven years earlier, but I have NO doubt that the addresso machine was the same one we were using in 1971.

Whenever I have a hard time remembering when I was in/out, I pull out my Social Security Earnings Statement that looks something like this.

Mallory Pasco is down in Clearater. I think he owns a school. Barbara Lamb is still on staff I think. Her husband David isn't on staff. Don't know Mickey Rourke, nor did I know the Austins. I was there earlier then those names.

I think the fun died when we moved to the building on S street. Before that everything and everybody were in close contact. When we got to the new building it was relatively so spread out people didn't see too much of each other, except at all hands.

Who remembers studying Big League Sales after hours at the old org on 19th Street?

Or how about the guy who came into the org. He was barefoot, but Deitz someohow got him to buy the Comm Course. He was routed out of the course room the first day, but somewhere along the routing form he convinced a few people who was independently rich, and had walked all the way from Tenessee to be a part of Scientology. So before he was done the routing form he was signed-up for staff and he promised to buy the org a helicopter (what we were going to do with a helicopter I never knew, but we could have used new file cabinents).
Then shortly it became apparent that he was crazy. We wouldn't have routed him out just because he was crazy, I think it was because we weren't gonna get a helicopter that people were upset.

By the way, Richard Alexander was the name of the other crazy guy that use to talk real loud and I think he sometimes claimed he was L. Ron Hubbard. Knowing what I know now, he just may have been Ron.

Bill Austin was on staff in the 80's...mainly as estates. The Hildenburgers, Crowes, William Stanley, Nancy Aronian, Doug Legum, Rod Jenkins...etc

A repeat... The Hair Lady

Who remembers the woman who the body routers would occasionally bring in because they couldn't get anyone else? Thin, not that old, but this HUGE head of hair that she wrapped in a scarf (sometimes aluminum foil), and carrying a bag full of Ron knows what. How big was the hair? Think the babe who chewed gum in Mars Attacks... yes, THAT BIG.

BIGGER THAN TRAVOLTA IN MY AVATAR!

I used to love the look on Dietz's face when he'd see her routed in yet again by some hapless body router.

I don't have a clear recollection of her, but I do remember a cat who used to ride around on a bike with a football helmet strapped to his noggin'....and don't give me the, that's not all that unsusual jive.

This was about 100 years before helmets became all the rage.

Oh how did we survive without helmets?
