Hi all,

I've been working my way through this thread to 'harvest' names for the list of exes speaking out [see sig]. Below is a list of 548 names I found, thought you would also like to know.

First, I haven't bothered to delete duplicates because of errors in spelling.

Second, I'm sure I've missed a few names [but not much], and that I put up some names of people who never were at FCDC, or were never a scilon to begin with.

Third, the amount of people in COS marrying, divorcing and then marrying again repeatedly astonishes me. [I understand the background though.] So there are names on this list of women with the surname of their 1st, 2nd, 3d etc. etc husbands.

Fourth. There will also be duplicates because of - don't know how to call it in English - short names, e.g. Bill and William, Ken and Kenneth etc.

I remember one night looking out of the orgs window about 3:00 am and seeing Tom Lane, Tony Jones, (I think) and someone else running up the street.

That was the night Bill Hynes got stabbed.

What a wild night that was.

The story, as I have heard goes:

A local miscreant climbed up the fire escape and into the room occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Hynes. He opened the window, brandished a knife, locked Mr Hynes in the closet, and tried to rape Mrs. Hynes. Mrs Hynes screamed in terror through the round hole in the door (left by the missing lock set - common in the DuPont Circle housing renting for $25/mo). Can you imagine here eyes and mouth so framed? Mr. Hynes broke out of the closet to rescue is wife and was stabbed numerous times in the abdomen exposing his small intestines. There was no phone in the house. Mr. Lane went to the org to call the police. The attacker fled. Mr. Hynes got sewed up.

That is all I have heard. I expect they received technical handling. I wonder if ethics or qual pursued what Mrs. Hynes did to "pull it in". As I recall they left together within a few months. Perhaps others can't recount.
 
What a list, what memories! I am astounded with the number of names I recognize. Another was Ricky Westlake, a public who used to razz me about looking so exhausted all the time. I had a brief conversation with him via FaceBook once wherein he said he retired from the fed govt, and had done several courses at the org. He did not seem to regret it, a shame, heh. Have not since been in contact...I quit FB.

I always WANTED to "do" Joan Tourtellot. Her loss. Living well the the best revenge, he said snarkily. Gyme (Jim) DeAngelo had her affections though.

I think he is a UPS driver out West somewhere now. Never was able to find Joan though.
 
I thought for a fleeting moment that FDCD circa 1970 would return to its former glory. But then I reflect that without Nozzie and Mystic this is impossible.

Sadly, I found this on the web some months ago:

Joan Tourtellot, pioneer Scientologist, Class VI Auditor departed her body on the morning of January 28, 2011.

Joan was a founding member of CCHR, worked in the Guardian’s Office and helped get Scientology recognized as a religion,
and was key staff member in the Founding Church of Scientology in Washington DC in the early 70s.

A memorial Service will be held on 27 February 2011 at the AOLA Atrium between 10:00 and 12:00.

Joan’s friends are invited on that day to celebrate her life and her achievements, and to help send her off to her new life.

AnonMo thank you for posting this. As I left FCDC and Scientology for good in late 1973 or early 1974 it has been a long time. I am indeed saddened by this news, but for some reason it does not surprise me. The numbers of deceased old timers are frightening to say the least. I cannot help but think that the cult had something to do with her demise, and for that I detest them.

I do not have the intensity within me to continue to protest, but I understand fully those who have devoted their lives toward bringing that place down. Joan was very kind to me way back then. When she went off to LA, she arranged to have the apartment lease on 19th street transferred to my name, thinking I would continue it as a safe place for Scientologists. The Calomiris organization (owners) were not happy about it as they said they had personal friends of Mr. Calomiris who wanted the place. I won't go into all that transpired, but within several months I had enough of it all and moved out. If you want to know more, PM me. Thus I screwed the org the way they had been screwing me for the past 2 and a half years. The wheel turns...

It's kind of funny. Here we are in 2012, and you are asking if any staff here from 1970-73 time period. So we are talking 42 years later. So I guess a present time member has to ask themselves, 42 years later, and staff from that time period, 1970-73, are posting on a EX scientology message board. What is that all about?

And maybe the PT member should ask themselves that? And maybe the PT member should ask themselves if scientology is going to clear the planet, and in doing so, why are the old members posting on a message board saying "don't do it"? I thought the tech was self-correcting?

And maybe a member in the church, should ask themselves, how are you or how is the church going to "clear the planet" when even the old members are not involved anymore? That question just does not make sense. :confused2:

Joan and I were good friends and despite the fact that we were a continent away from each other after she moved to LA, she and I managed to see each other an amazing six times after staff - twice I stayed at her place in LA. I know she had Epstein Barr at one time - I do not know particulars on Epstein Barr and whether you get rid of it or whether it forever compromises your immune system. But I know she was struggling with her health back in the mid 90s. We stopped staying in touch some time after that. I do know she always struggled financially, which might have made it hard to care for her health. She never had children.
 
Wow. this is tragic news about Joan.

What keeps Scientology going is the goodness of some of its members who are truly good people.

Joan was one of them.

I read here, cannot remember who, that he quit and is on FaceBook. Been gone since last spring I think, about the same time I quit Facebook. Sure wish he would phone home. Also Nozeno and Uncle Sam and Zinjifar and others...wow yes all the fun is gone now.

I wish I had known about Joan's problems, because I would have helped at least financially if in no other way. That is another of the tragedies of the cult, the total lack of keeping in touch.
