He's mentally well now! He has new prosthetic arms!



So many of us were deeply upset and felt helpless to help him. Yes, I knew him as a child, as well as his parents.

I spoke to him once about the bomb he made. He told me he "was trying to blow up the evil". He was just a child, living in the cold world of Scientology staff, basically parentless because they worked so many hours.

What was done to him was so heartless, so cruel. He wasn't on the streets at 19 years old, btw. He was on the streets, thrown out of Scn, before he was even 16 years old. He was STILL A MINOR.

Because the parents were taught that he was a "Suppressive Person" because he made a terrible mistake.

The parents were also on staff during the mother's pregnancy and under great stress, working long hours and most likely with poor nutrition. He had poor nutrition when he was in the child care of the Church of Scientology. All of that may have caused or at least greatly contributed to his mental state when he set off the home-made bomb and lost his eye and hands.

Thank you so much for making this video, Karen. This poor man FINALLY has a life. For the first time in his life.



It was the most heartbreaking story. Thanks to you and everyone involved who gave it a happy ending. Thanks for telling the truth. Thank you for helping him.

Karen you got my vote.Well done.ThE COS offers solutions to solve the worlds problems then washes its hands its when they come knocking at the door. Every one that enters the orgs is imeadiatly financially assessed. If they need help or are downstat they are labeled as a DB. I thought we were here to bring about change for the better, not to turn our backs on beings in need of help.We as a group accepted responsability to help mankind.I think someone somewhere dropped the hat.

What a great observation, Karen!

The other thing about this boy is that he was born and raised IN SCIENTOLOGY. There are others that have had mental breakdowns who have ONLY known SCIENTOLOGY. That the product of this cult.

I'm glad the parents finally got on board with helping him and the county mental health. Social worker mildredpierce did a fantastic job and I'm so glad she visited us at ESMB asking for help back in 2011.

The Church of Scientology will take anyone in to start services. The Registrar told me they can deal with "illegal PC's". What I discovered is the Church of Scientology will allow you to do enough services and then bleed your bank account dry. They will then tell you "no more auditing - you are an illegal PC".

I have also witnessed them fleecing "illegal PC's" for donations to the Ideal Org Buildings and IAS. Funny how their money is not "illegal" but what this Church is doing - IS! Fleecing people with no intention to help anyone ever!

Karen, I really want to thank you for spotlighting this issue of Scientology's insane attacks against psychiatry and it's antipathy towards those in it's membership who suffer from mental illness. The 'Illegal PC" status is one of the most degrading situations for a member. I have read and heard horror stories over the years about the 'mind fu*k' people have been put through because they had a past of mental health treatment ( of any kind or level) or security issue because of family connections ( past or present) they had no control over.

What you have done here is highlight the serious flaws and ignorance that results in members and member's family being treated like lepers and not being given appropriate medical care when the symptoms arise. I lost a good scientologist friend to 'suicide' back in the 80's because no matter how hard she tried to get up her 'Bridge To Total Freedom', she was met at every step with broken promises, requests for money, amended programs to include more training or purchase of books and tapes and denials of promised service. The use of the illegal PC label against a person is an extortionist tool used by the church over an over again.

The attitude towards those exhibiting mental illness in Scientology comes from a long time indoctrination of lies and propaganda. I imagine the parents of Serge later wondering how they could have been so hoodwinked into thinking their child was a degraded being not capable of help by the mental health industry. Well, we all thought ( and some still do think ) that. This story is a testimony to to the fact that people can evolve out of the Scientology mindset they grew into; that they can be helped outside of the cult. That they can make up for the damages caused by believing that children are unimportant, that their needs are important, that Scientology doesn't have a patent on helping people and the one they claim to have is seriously flawed. Especially when it claims that psychiatry is the enemy, that it is not what Scientology claims it to be.

I hate to add this, but it needs to be said, to get a good idea of the neglect of children (whether over 18 or not) by parents in the Sea Org.

Serge was making these pipe bombs across the street from ASHO where he was staying in a rented house(owned by Scientologists). One of his brothers was with him at the time and was also injured (though not as seriously). Serge was never prosecuted for the pipe bombs that they suspected had been left around the LA area in newspaper stands. The reasoning was that he got his punishment and the law was not going to do anything further. His brother, however, was prosecuted and did some time or community service or something. I can't remember which brother it was. I dont think it was Yuri, but I cant for the life of me remember the name of the other brother!

The COS is not winning any "war" against psychiatry. In fact, psychiatry is thriving and available on most health insurance plans. Most public schools in the US offer counseling services from trained psychologists. War? Really? Where? With whom? There are about 100,000 psychologists in the US and 4,000 new ones graduating every year. Look at the stats.

The world is in desparate need for mental health and the COS finds more ways to not help anyone except the very rich with no history of treatment but only if they don't complain.

The goals of the COS are clear: A world where only the wealthy, who don't complain, are free to rise to greater heights.

Yes, the neglect is not only with SO parents. The neglect of children in SF Bay Area orgs has the same thing occurring. I have witnessed this in my years in scientology. Ive seen many staff children in ratty clothes eating soup for dinner and going to bed late and waking up early because their parent is on staff. Horrible treatment of children. And these children get recruited for staff!

Even parents who are public hardly see their children if they are on course. Supervisors do not want to hear if you need to stay home because your child is sick or he/she is upset because they do not see their parents enough. Or the solution of having a child come to the org and volunteer in the evening.

That situation still makes me cry, but I don't have the big hole in my heart over it now, thanks to those who followed up, found him, and saw to his help. This man's condition is one of the worst of the SO kids' stories, but there were other children whose situations were just as bad. I just have no idea where they are now.

For the man's sake, I'd like everyone here to know what he was like as a child. I saw him dozens of times.

He was intelligent, outgoing, friendly and cute. He had a sweetness about him - he was not "evil" by any stretch of the imagination! Nor would anyone know from looking at him or speaking to him that he had any mental problems whatsoever beyond the sort of problems young boys have who do not have a father or other parent around to teach and discipline.

But he had a tendency to get into mischief as he got older and had less and less interest in studies. The mischief got bigger.

Children need role models. Scientology does not provide any sort of real role models for them.

May this young man make a complete mental recovery and reach that high level of intelligence he had before all of this - and use that intelligence and the warmth he once had as a child to build a happy, normal life.

God bless everyone who helped: social worker, psychologist, psychiatrists, ex-scientologists...KAREN of course, and anyone else who may or may not have been named who helped.
