just jumping into unknown territory here:

from what I've seen, there is more to auditing than just the words.

there are some auditors, who could get a result with "Do birds fly?" and there are some, who couldn't get a result with any process.

some of the elements include a safe space (as the auditor - not the environment), non judgmental, really present, loves the PC, sees the PC as a god, has no case that will hit the PC then or later, isn't auditing for $ or Well Done Auditing Hours or stat push or...., but for the betterment of the PC as defined by the PC -- in other words not enforcing a reality or having a hidden agenda.

Would anyone care to add to the list?

The auditor one should have would unconditionally love you and want the best for you, with no "yes, but.."

The thing about occupying a location in the world is that you have to defend that location. To be there with the PC and not be coming from an attitude or perspective that you as an auditor have arrived at is an art. An invaluable one...to be able to be present without adding ANYTHING to the session. I have had two such auditors in my life. A class IX lifer in the SO at Flag and a level one intern at Miami Org. Both showed unconditional admiration and acceptance of anything I had to say in the session. Nothing could ARCX either of them. I had full reign to inspect my considerations without hitting beliefs owned by another in the space. Miracles can happen.

Sometimes I take myself out into the woods. Just to be alone and clear the viewpoints and projections of others from my space. I find I can spot what assertions or expectations my life force is bridled by, what thoughts are modifying who or what I think I am. To me, not sensing any of this extra stuff makes me expansive.

Not all auditors care to hide their opinions or disdain or impatience with the pc. These destroy the safe space of the session. For me, if I see that the main incident or goal or ser fac is opposed to mine as a pc...nothing flies.
Once I was running Int and could not reorient to my body. I was reliving my charge of not belonging within a civilization. I could see across from me that the auditor's imagery was of " building a new civilization." The imagery was of taming the rogue immature OTs who were causing mayhem. And the consideration was that the free being's overt and ser fac made it impossible for them to settle down and get with the program. Hrmmmph. Not a good match. Yes, I picked this up.

We are all somewhat represented by an idea or ideas. It's how we relate to others. These are the great guidelines and modifiers on an infinite playing field. It's best to make a session work with the goal to make all possibilities infinite again. Can't do this with too many fixed ideas anchored in the auditing room. The PC's are enough.

One place this came up was on goals processing in the early 1960's at Saint Hill, when rows of paired co-auditors were lined up next to each other, listing for goals and identities (terminals). It could and did occur that while one was PC having a goal or terminal found on them, it rang true for another or other PC's within hearing range. The bystanding PC would then have their own charge bypassed unless or until they were given that item. By extension, you can see how this could happen in life, one person cross-flowing a conversation in which another was told "You were meant to be a dancer", or whatever, and bypassing charge because nobody indicated or acknowledged the same for them.

So what would've been the proper way of letting the PC have his item and fix this? I'm assuming you're quoting someone you dealt with.

I almost had a situation like this. I was doing an L4B long form and had attested to Clear months before . I had started to rollercoaster as I was around someone who had murdered me another life. The incident was in restimulation. There were so many 10,000 dollar penalties for making mistakes on the call that auditors got ridgey on the subject. My auditor would not indicate the charge on " Has an engram been restimulated back to me." I knew it had read. I didn't care that they'd given me the item Natural Clear in the previous months. I was sitting in a revivification and sort of a psychic attack. I was denied a right item and said so. I said.. I know that must read..cause that is the item. The auditor went to cramming.

I'm trying the attachment icon next to the white smiley face in the toolbox. I'm not getting anything by clicking on the upload key. It should upload that file type but doesn't. When I see a pic I use FireFox to copy the image url and save it to the clipboard. I then click on the picture icon in the toolbox. paste the url into the image icon box area. In IE I bring them into Photobucket or flicker and then take the url given the pic and paste it into my post. I will go into my pictures first and select a photo and paste it into a Word document. Then I hear you can copy it over. The attachment icon just doesn't work for me.

Thanks for the for the ack (and thanks Rog and Leon too ). As to the correctness of your course of action, I think that a primary basis for a good session of any kind, any practice always was and always will be getting the person's viewpoint- perceiving, and understanding, along with successfully conveying that understanding to the person, and then acting in accordance with that understanding. Carmello is one person who understands how important this is, rather than a "one size fits all" "cookie-cutter" approach. If your PC is too distracted by a body sensation they are experiencing to give the auditing comm cycle their attention, then if you attempt to first address anything else, you're spinning your wheels. Its part of what makes you a natural auditor that you acted effectively rather than rotely.

It's multi-step to accomplish this. I was trying to just drag or copy/paste directly from my computer to a post, and that does not work.

Instead, first you save the pic to your album in your profile. Then, when you've got a reply box open, you use the "insert image" icon and locate the pic in your profile album.

Some good answers there to your question Hats. That C/S should have spotted that that was your item and simply sent the auditor back to give it to you. Often doing an L4 in response to such an exam statement is in itself a wrong item.

If things go wrong in a session I have often simply asked the preclear "What's gone wrong here?" and he tells me straight out. I fix that and move on. people get overrun on correction lists and whhen they KNOW what's wrong and don't get asked then that can be an inval too.

What Carmelo wrote was superb stuff too - it all comes under the heading of Basic Auditing. It had another name in the early days but it eludes me right now. The tech is FIRST you get into comm with the preclear and THEN you do something for the preclear. If you neglect the first part then you will lose out on the second. The bugger of Basic Auditing is that it is not always easy to spot on worksheets when you are C/Sing and so often gets missed and preclears get put onto corrective actions because "the process didn't work - must be a resistive case" when really it is somply that hte auditor never got into prroper copmm with the preclear. This has happened far more often than one would believe and every time the subsequent corrective actions are also wrong items and just foul things up even more.

This is also the real reason why outsiders who were trying LRH tech to "see if it works" invariably failed to get results. "Peer review" on Scio can only be done by well trained auditors and by no one else. That's just the way it is.

Some guys are absolutely spectacular with their auditor presence and the love they have for their preclears and they get incredible results - miracle after miracle. Johnny Mac was one such.

Repair lists cover various case complications. They do not account much for out basics introduced into the session by the auditor.

L&N is about the simplest auditing imaginable, but the Laws of L&N have to be followed explicitly. To do that an auditor has to be observant.

You are right Leon.

My L4 wasn't done in response to my exam though. It was done in an effort to locate the reason for my becoming destablized. Just prior to it I would not concede that the only PTS item reading was 'real'. (It WAS!) Hence continuous 'why' finding.

I think John McMaster had a love for the mechanics of the mind! He was an engineer! Some beings think mathematically, some artistically, some emotionally. The engineers can always spot which parts go with which and why they are in the location they are in as part of the whole.

Kelly, apart from being a natural athlete, was classically trained and emphasized ballet in all his dancing. O'Connor was an outstanding "hoofer" as a vaudevillean & tap dancer, but it is a style which emphasizes "flash".

Not terribly surprisingly the ONE american dancer who I've heard universally acclaimed by classically trained dancers, both from the kirov & bolshoi as well as dancers from the English National, is ... Fred Astaire. Over the years I've had occasion to meet several professional dancers from these and similar companies and they are all in awe of the man.
