Re: Update on the old Orange County Org Building.

I was in Tustin, CA around December of 2012 and decided to see what was happening to the old Orange Country Org building and drove by. At that time, they were in the framing stage of converting the old org into office buildings. They were perhaps 25% to 30% complete with construction. Two days ago, I had occasion to drive by there again.

I believed that construction would have been long since completed and the sparkling new office building would now be fully occupied. My premise was that they had probably sold the previous building and the new owner was hiring professional contractors to remodel the building from being an org into being office suites.

To my surprise, though nearly two years have passed, the building has progressed only marginally. Perhaps they are now 70% complete. With proper funding and professionals brought in to do the construction, such a project would probably take about 4 to 5 months to complete and yet in 22 months, construction only progressed from about 25% done to 70% done.

What this means is the COS still owns the old org and its property and is using "in house" Sea Org labor to move the work forward. How else and why else would things be progressing at such a slow rate>

OTHER THINGS MISSING FROM THE CONSTRUCTION SITE: There was no fencing to keep trespassers off of the property and there are no signs from any General Contractor or Sub Contractors, who typically place their signs on a commercial construction site as a form of advertising.

Apparently it is more beneficial for COS to have a semi idle construction site for years while one of their buildings is being remodeled by their own low paid labor force than to get that construction completed quickly by professional and rapidly turn the building over.

Recalling the old Hubbard Policy Letter, "What Your Fees Buy", construction labor skills are now an important part of the list of items which your fees by. Maybe that explains what happened to the old Staff Crew. None of them got jobs at their new Ideal Org across town, one town away in Santa Ana, but perhaps some of them are now doing the construction work necessary to be able to sell the old buildng and grounds at the maximum profit.

More Classical Music

Great news for my kids! My Son started his job as an attorney about a month ago and he has just purchased a condo in L.A. not too far from his job. As luck would have it, my beautiful Daughter got a terrific job in the L.A. Area and started today and she is moving in with him and paying him some rent. This is the first time both kids have been out of the house and on their own at the same time.

To celebrate tonight, before going to bed, I decided to play some classical music. What I wanted to play was the Oboe Concerto by Mozart. However, before I link to that, I saw an oboe concerto by Johann Christian Bach, who was Sebastian Bach's youngest Son, 21 years older than Mozart. Christian Bach is also known as the London Bach since he spent most of his career living in London. I believe the older Bach fathered 20 children!

This concerto was written in 1766 when Bach was 32. The Mozart concerto was written in 1777 when Mozart was 21. BTW, the two men met in London when Mozart was a 9 year old prodigy who was touring England with his Father and Sister. The two played together in the same room, even playing pieces for two pianos.

Christian Bach was a very skilled composer in his own right. He is right up there with the top composers and was highly thought of in his own time. There is something missing in his works which kept him from immortality. His skill and technique is right up there with the top composers but he seems to lack some sort of intangible. To me, it might be "fire in his belly" which he is lacking. He went through the paces doing everything in an excellent manner as far as technique and taste was concerned but the music is not making a firm statement; though skilled and containing some innovation, it seems to be content just being late 18th century music.

Yeah right. 'Electricity too cheap to meter' was the promise made in the 1980's in order to gain the millions of pounds (probably billions by now) needed to fund this technology here in the UK.

We have 'JET', the Joint European Torus here in England. I love science and technology, and although I'm sure lots of useful information has been gained through this project, a major breakthrough still evades us here in the UK I believe. More on JET here.

Along this same line of humor I remember reading MAD magazine as a 15 year old back in 1955. They had an article with the headline, "LINEMAN SHOCKED BY OPEN WIRE".

The text under the headline went on to explain that a National Football League professional football player, a lineman, arrived home one day. No one was home but an open Western Union Telegram was lying on his kitchen table. The telegraph wire told him they the team was unexpectedly forced to cut him immediately. This was totally unexpected since he thought that he was doing a good job for his team. In fact it was so unexpected that he went into shock.

The local newspaper got wind of this event and told about it in the paper the next day, using the headline, "LINEMAN SHOCKED BY OPEN WIRE".

Going back to the the amusing definitions, it would be a huge coup for COS if they were able to purchase the Versailles Palace in France and the Schoenbrunn Palace in Vienna and convert them to Ideal Orgs. Just imagine how grand the Office of LRH would be!! It would put the LRH offices in all the other Ideal Orgs to shame.

Good post Jack. Dr. Eckman's knowledge in the area of lying seem sound. To put in my 2 cents, I believe that lying in person is a separate category from lying in print. Another comment would be that in the game of Poker, success is achieved largely through the ability of being able to lie convincingly.

I am terrible at playing poker, largely because I am a terrible liar in person. I have an enormous number of "tells" when I am bluffing in poker. I have very little chance of pulling off a successful bluff against a skilled player! Telling a lie while writing is a completely separate matter. If you lie about something in print, the "tells" are much less obvious but I believe that some tells are detectable, even in print.

My summary on verbal lying is as follows: If you approach a meet up with one or more persons and are determined to tell the truth, there are no loose ends dangling, there is no creation or acting which needs to be done. With these things missing, a person doesn't have to worry about them and his demeanor is more stable and more relaxed than it would be were he lying. By contrast, when you approach a meet up planning to lie, you are carrying with you an unfinished cycle. You have probably rehearsed your lie in your mind several times before your meet up and most people are on edge, worrying about whether or not they can pull off an effective acting performance when delivering their lie(s). This concern about creating the false effect which you are going to be trying to convey causes most people to tense up a bit and it is that tension, combined with having your mind focused on your coming acting performance which leads to the various "tells" which Dr. Eckman is skilled at observing,

I was up in the Bay area the last 4 days visiting my cousin and was accompanied by Purple Haze. My male cousin was a stellar host, as he always is. He took us to many extremely interesting and scenic places. He even invited a female cousin of mine, who lives in Mountain View, to meet up with us and have dinner.

On one extremely interesting excursion, we went to Fort Funston. We had tried to go there on my earlier trip in 2012 but the Fort was closed that year due to the shut down of the government which occurred in 2012. Fort Funston has got to have the most beautiful stretch of coastline which I have ever seen; Here is a link to some photos of the area:

Interesting features are the fact that the San Andreas fault begins right there only yards from our observation point and also that some pill boxes which once contained high powered guns were placed there during WWII to defend the area from attack by the Japanese.

Another big feature which the Fort offers is Hang Gliding. Due to wind currents blowing back towards the cliffs, no Hang Gliding was possible that day but Purple Haze was able to find a man who was setting up his hang glider in case the wind changed. She spent time talking to him and appears to have fallen in love with him.

After Fort Dunston, we shot over to Half Moon Bay. Once again some of the most beautiful coastline which I have ever seen as shown by this link:

We had lunch there near the ocean, overlooking all this incredibly beautiful scenery.

THE MEET UP
A meet up was arranged with Carmelo at a Starbucks in Los Altos, which Carmelo said was the wealthiest area in Silicon Valley and believe me that is WEALTHY since Silicon Valley is populated with millionaires. Of course, Carmelo brought his dog with him, a dog with an almost human like presence. We took care of some business matters between Purple and Carmelo and then broke up. As luck would have it, Carmelo called again in about an hour and had some free time so a second meet up was arranged about 4 miles from the first meet up. In that meet up, I was an observer as the two of them engaged in more conversation about their business matter. Finally we bade Carmelo and his dog goodbye and moved on.

We started back to Southern California and let my GPS guide us. To our surprise it took us to Highway 1 the scenic route and then Pacific Coast Highway 101. We first entered
Highway 1 at a beautiful beach town called Pismo Beach. Again, spectacular views and an extremely charming city. Check out this link:

Still our adventures continued, Purple wanted to stop and see her daughter in Ventura and help her procure a new cell phone. That meet up took place and then we continued home.

FANTASTIC PEOPLE!
Purple Haze is the type of person who likes to engage strangers in conversation and exchange contact numbers. As a result, we met some EXTREMELY interesting people plus my two cousins and his girl friend also fall into that category. With Carmelo, my family, and more than a dozen people who Purple met on the trip, I couldn't help but be impressed with how many beautiful people are living on planet Earth. The concentration, for me, was greater in the San Francisco Bay area than the norm but I don't know if that is just my bias or if it is really true.

Anyway, when you see really fantastic people who have wisdom and are good natured and giving, it drags one's attention away from COS and all the fighting, dissing and bad feelings taking place between various elements of COS, Indy Scientologists and exes. There are so many worthwhile people out there to know and so much beauty in the environment and even in our society, it makes COS and all of their issues and problems look quite insignificant. Except for stopping civil rights abuses and the breaking up of families, there is very little reason to devote oneself to investigating COS and trying to figure out what Hubbard was doing or DM is doing. The bigger and much more productive game is to get out there, see what the world has to offer, experience it, mix and socialize with the many fine people who are living at this time and pitch in and help to improve our world. This is a much bigger game than keeping onself involved in Scientology and ex Scientology.

the Deception Detection is the lulzy bit of his research, but his main focus was Non-verbal communication. Emotions displayed subtly that are different from what was being said.

I was offering this (the broad subject) for the counseling application for auditors or counselors. The pc is saying one thing but displaying a contradictory emotional aspect. How can one use this to direct either the pc or the direction of pursuit by the counselor.

Also the way I used whatever grasp I have of this, the pc offers one thing and the emotional markers suggest something else entirely, a whole new window of opportunity for exploration is presented. You can now chase a whole now direction that may lead to a totally different place...

There was a TV series called Lie to Me that was based on his work. It's available on Netflix. Dr Ekman was the senior advisor.
The pilot episode shows a huge amount of really interesting parts of his research. (It is a TV show, so there is some "fluff" but there is a bunch of accurate info presented. Dr. Ekman offers a commentary on each episode on his web site, pointing out where the science is accurate and where it has been...stretched.)

I do think it is worth a look.

The concentration, for me, was greater in the San Francisco Bay area than the norm but I don't know if that is just my bias or if it is really true.

Anyway, when you see really fantastic people who have wisdom and are good natured and giving, it drags one's attention away from COS and all the fighting, dissing and bad feelings taking place between various elements of COS, Indy Scientologists and exes. There are so many worthwhile people out there to know and so much beauty in the environment and even in our society, it makes COS and all of their issues and problems look quite insignificant. Except for stopping civil rights abuses and the breaking up of families, there is very little reason to devote oneself to investigating COS and trying to figure out what Hubbard was doing or DM is doing. The bigger and much more productive game is to get out there, see what the world has to offer, experience it, mix and socialize with the many fine people who are living at this time and pitch in and help to improve our world. This is a much bigger game than keeping onself involved in Scientology and ex Scientology.

the Deception Detection is the lulzy bit of his research, but his main focus was Non-verbal communication. Emotions displayed subtly that are different from what was being said.

I was offering this (the broad subject) for the counseling application for auditors or counselors. The pc is saying one thing but displaying a contradictory emotional aspect. How can one use this to direct either the pc or the direction of pursuit by the counselor.

Also the way I used whatever grasp I have of this, the pc offers one thing and the emotional markers suggest something else entirely, a whole new window of opportunity for exploration is presented. You can now chase a whole now direction that may lead to a totally different place...

There was a TV series called Lie to Me that was based on his work. It's available on Netflix. Dr Ekman was the senior advisor.
The pilot episode shows a huge amount of really interesting parts of his research. (It is a TV show, so there is some "fluff" but there is a bunch of accurate info presented. Dr. Ekman offers a commentary on each episode on his web site, pointing out where the science is accurate and where it has been...stretched.)

I do think it is worth a look.

Thanks for all the elaboration which you provide above. I see where you are going with this now and my comments weren't all that applicable. I recall seeing a TV show where a panel had to guess who was lying among a group of people telling a story. This was going way back, maybe into the 1970's. The show was amusing. I don't know if it is the same show you are mentioning above.

As far as the trek to the bay area, Jack, I won't be returning for at least a year but when I do, I will definitely let you know in a PM and we can arrange a meet up. Of course, if you are going to be down in my area, we could also arrange a meet up.
