Lakey,

there is something you missed in Face's post.

Go back and look at it, look at the two things Face highlighted in red, connect the dots when reading the body of what he wrote keeping in mind the red highlighted words.

And would you please stop saying I, Gib, skim your posts, that is dub in. You have mentioned this a few times now. I'm getting angry, REAL ANGRY. (lol, don't take me saying I'm angry seriously).

My good man, I think I just bailed out of this thread.

I appreciate the several thousands page hits per day you have caused to come to be on this thread - continue the good works !

For two guys who posted two days ago that you were done reading this thread, you are both remarkably active. In fact you seem to be reading and posting here more than ever!! I do thank Gizmo for his comments about the thousands of hits per day the thread is getting. BTW, I don't take credit for all of that but I participated significantly in causing that to happen.
Also, I'll check out the words in red which Gib asked me to check out.

Lakey

P.S.
Okay, I went back and read Faces thread again and here are the words which he put in red: Obnosis drills only work when one views all life through Hubbard's perspective of life.

You know, when I read that statement, I thought it was totally 100% wrong and I did not think it was an important part of Face's post.

When I started to write my reply to Face, I was going to mention that I did not agree with that statement but I decided not to for two reasons. First, I am trying to keep my posts short as opposed to being long and rambling as they once were. The second reason for not commenting negatively was that in past years, I almost always agreed with the major points which Face made. Of all the posters on ESMB, he may be the one whom I learned the most from. If not #1, he would certainly be in the top 2 or 3.

To me the Obnosis drill works just fine without viewing life through Hubbard's perspective of life. In fact, in one views it through Hubbard's perspective of life, then a good coach should spot that and flunk the guy doing the drill and have him restudy the drill.

The drill says only to observe something and describe exactly what you see, nothing more and nothing less. If a person does that, they will usually find some change will occur. When the drill begins, an average student, when asked to describe a guy will say that he has 2 eyes and 2 ears, even though he is merely viewing the guy's profile. That is a flunk because in a profile view, the other side of the guy's face can't be seen. For all we know, the guy lost the other eye and ear fighting in Iraq!

It's true that in many of Hubbard's processes and drills, Hubbard tries to get students to view things through his perspective but it is my reality that this is not true for the Obnosis drill. Every time I did the drill, I always did it by the book and just observed the obvious. In those years I didn't know much about Hubbard. All I knew was a 2 or 3 page bio that was in the back of several of his books. It turned out that bio was not even true but had huge exaggerations which made Hubbard's life and his achievements appear more impressive than they actually were.

Even then, I made no effort at all to take on Hubbard's perspective, I merely did what the drill said and Observed the Obvious through my own perspective.

I never thought much of the drill, myself, but when Helluva came here to post in early December, he had been told that I was promoting the drill as a valid example of Hubbard tech which works. That was not the case at all. That's how I first suspected that Gib, Gizmo and a couple of others might be skimming my posts without actually reading them for comprehension. They see that I mention Obnosis and they tell Helluva that I am promoting it when actually I wrote that I did not think it had much value.

Here is HH's post:

http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthre...he-Apollo-1973&p=986331&viewfull=1#post986331

HH just said it was a bad example.
HH tends to explain in a general view of things and not specifically at what you said.

And here is another thing,

HH, Gizmo, me, Face, etc - we all post everywhere on this joint ESMB. Nobody told HH to post here, nobody told me to post here, same for Gizmo & Face. We don't get together to battle plan. LOL

Now, my opinion, I don't have a problem with the obnosis drills, just getting a person to see what is there and not assumed. No big deal, but Hubbard places such great significance on the simple things and makes them sound all so glorious and profound. Like "give me that hand" for hours and it's really stupid. Any normal person gets it just by reading it.

So, I'm not in disagreement with you regarding that.

But in your post http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthre...-Apollo-1973&p=1002368&viewfull=1#post1002368

the last paragraph, I go WTF. There are no OT's, so how can one have a obnosis drill for OT's and call it OT9. I understand you are speculating, but then again there are no OT's.

Actually, it is often the case that it is the simple things which pack all the power. Look at Einsteins famous equation expressing the relationship between energy, matter, space and time. One might expect pages and pages of long complex mathematical formulae but a simple Algebra I equation suffices E = M x C x C.

So, I'm not in disagreement with you regarding that.

I will explain below but please bear with me because before I can answer your question, I have to set the table with some set up steps and my set up steps are a bit long.

.

There are no OT's which have all the attributes which Hubbard promised in his writings and on his grade chart. That being said, many people exhibit traces of OT like abilities. This applies to people in Scientology as well as people who dabble in the occult as well as just normal people out there living their lives.

An OT like person on planet Earth makes things go right no matter what opposition faces him or her. Notable examples are Winston Churchill during WWII, standing up to Nazi Germany, Abe Lincoln getting the Emancipation Proclamation through congress, Ghandi getting Brittain to grant independence to India and M.L. King marching in Alabama to end Jim Crow laws in the USA. These men made things go right in the face of enormous obstacles.

On another level, still very important, a large percentage of people are extremely talented in various areas and have a knack to be able to cause positive things to happen. Someone like Thomas Edison comes to mind as does Leonardo Da Vinci and Steve Jobs.. On yet another level, still very important, we have artisans who can work with brick stone, rock, wood, etc and create masterpieces of art or consumer products. Others exhibit OT abilities in music, in sports, in business, in raising a family, in starting a successful business, etc..

You are right that I am speculating. Since this is a thread built around scientology, I like to speculate about scientology. To me, scientology had vestiges of good in it when I was in. As I now know, the overall basis of the subject was built around the reality of Hubbard's "case", the aggregate of his aberrations.

It was Hubbard's "case" which dictated the creation of dianetics and scientology. That body of technology has now had a 70 year period in which to grow but instead of prospering and leaving a trial of happy people behind, healed of their abberations, it has harmed many people, is shrinking in size and is leaving a trail of unhappy and disillusioned former members in its wake.

WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN
As bad as things end up for most people who try scientology, there is almost always a honeymoon period where each person who signs up is very happy being in scientology and believes that he has found the one group on this planet which has the capability to really help all mankind. The honeymoon period may be short, maybe a matter of months or it can last for many years. The way the group is designed, sooner or later most people will take huge losses, turn on the group and leave it.

CAN SCIENTOLOGY BE REFORMED AND IF SO, WHAT WOULD HAVE TO TAKE PLACE TO DO THAT
Yearning for the old days at CCLA in the early 70's, I like to speculate on whether or not scientology could successfully be reformed and if it could be reformed, how would one go about it?

In kicking this topic around, I have come up with some items which center around huge outpoints Hubbard built into his organizations. For each outpoint, I propose a remedy. I am just an ordinary guy so my proposed fixes may not have merit but I try hard to zero in on major outpoints and then create a feasible remedy. I'll give some examples below.

OUTPOINT - ONLY HUBBARD CAN CREATE SCIENTOLOGY POLICY AND TECH
REMEDY - I could live with this point while LRH was living but upon his passing a provision needs to exist to allow others to update and modernize the tech to keep up with the times.

OUTPOINT - SCIENTOLOGY ESPOUSES LOFTY GOALS, CREEDS, CODES, ETC BUT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO APPLY THOSE ONCE ONE JOINS THE ORGANIZATION
REMEDY - The staff and public must be able to exercise all the creeds and codes which exist once they are public and/or staff. Thus top management must also follow those codes.
OUTPOINT - SCIENTOLOGY HIDES FROM TELLING THE TRUTH AND USES SHORE STORIES WHICH ARE "AN ACCEPTABLE TRUTH" IN LIEU OF TELLING THE TRUTH
REMEDY - The truth must always be told and all shore stories need to be gutted

OUTPOINT - IN KSW #1 HUBBARD CLAIMS THAT ONLY HE CAN CREATE TECH. HE SAYS THAT OF 100,000 SUGGESTIONS BY OTHERS, ONLY 20 HAD VALUE, BUT NONE HAD MAJOR VALUE
REMEDY - Hubbard's statement is not true, Hubbard took tech from many sources and later claimed that he had developed it himself. KSW #1 needs to be revised to reflect this.

Continuing onward with this list, we come to the OUTPOINT that the states of clear and OT were initially defined by Hubbard but nobody who did his auditing or training courses achieved the full gains which Hubbard projected. In response, Hubbard lowered his claims several times but even so, no one ever fully attained those lower gains either.

Finally, that leads us to address the OT Levels:
OUTPOINT - PEOPLE COMPLETING CLEAR AND OT DON'T HAVE CLEAR OR OT ABILITIES
REMEDY - Revise the bridge and create realistic abilities which can be gained from doing various levels. For me, I like the lower part of the bridge, from Life Repair up through Power, and I feel I made some worthwhile gains on those levels.

Beyond, Power, some reworking needs to occur with new and realistic definitions for Clear and some OT levels.

FINALLY - THE ANSWER TO GIB'S QUESTION
I believe that the OT levels 1 thru 8 should be renamed the pre OT levels. The end phenomena for each level would need to be reworded to some realistic ability which could actually be attained. When a person completes Level Pre OT 8, he would then be eligible to move onto the real OT levels where a person might be able to do for real what OT's are supposed to be able to do, things such as causing matter to move without using one's body or being able to view without using the body's eyes, etc..

OT 9 - DM promised for years to bring out OT IX and OT X once all orgs made Saint Hill size. Later on the parameters changed and eventually, holding out OT IX and OT X as a carrot on a stick for scientologists to chase petered out until OT IX and OT X are seldom mentioned anymore. If you read on the internet, it looks like LRH never wrote up those levels. For a while, DM believed they existed and that Pat Broeker took those write ups with him when he left COS. After 25 years or so, DM's private detectives were able to ascertain that Broeker did not have those write ups. DM didn't have them either so they probably never existed.

Therefore, in a hypothetical revamping of the upper Bridge which I was suggesting, I speculated that COS could create the first real OT level, OT 9. by using Hubbard's Obnosis Drill as the core material upon which the new level would be based.. So Gib, that is the "how and why" of how I came to write what I did about basing a new OT 9 level on the Obnosis Drill. I did that sort of tongue in cheek, but IMO it would actually not be a bad idea to do that as part of a reform movement to overhaul

The goal of my overhaul is to free Hubbard's alleged "workable system" of all the stress, drama and high costs which limit it's performance and make it a truly workable system.
Lakey

P.S. - I'm sorry the post is so long but it took all the above set up material to attempt to thoroughly answer your question.

three bullet points for raising the phoenix from it's ashes:

1. separate the posts of ED Int and head of sea org

2. create an autonomous chaplaincy headed by a Chaplain's General with judicial levels; local chaplains, regional magistrates and a supreme court

3. IAS gathers a constitutional convention for reform and reorganiztion (which, of course should properly be a rubber stamp for what i tell them to do but don't tell anyone because we want it to look kosher)

CB, I see it as fist thing first. It's supposed to be a church so there should be an aura of truth about the Organization. They have got to knock of the lying, the false stats and the shore stories and then firmly apply all their stated creeds and codes. The emphasis has to return to pushing training and processing rather than bulidings and building renovations, then insuring that those people who received the processing actually have attained the abilities promised from each level. If they don't do those basic things, no change for the better in COS will occur,

On your bullets above, on point #1, I don't see what would be gained by doing that, can you please explain how that will improve the organization. On your point #2, I agree the Chaplain post should play a much bigger role than it does now. Instead of religious cloaking, there should be a sincere effort to provide Sunday services and provide a Chaplain to counsel the parishioners. COS had some of that when I was in but I don't know if it still exists. Whatever existed in the past was mainly just "window dressing" to provide some religious cloaking.

On your #3, it sounds like a good idea to have the IAS call for a convention to reform and reorganize. Maybe when DM finally leaves the scene, that might actually happen. The IAS is a really big deal, there should be a thread to discuss just that. I think that there should be an IAS, it serves several important purposes. All I can say is that everything the IAS disseminates should be honest and factual. One important thing would be for it to provide an accurate accounting to the parishioners, yearly, of where the money which was collected was used, how much went to management and how much was added to reserves.

Thanks Lakey.

I wish you luck in your endeavors.

Me, myself and I do not wish to do that.

As far as I am concerned, all of hubbards writing, books, lectures, etc

can be burned. It's pretended knowledge as far as I am concerned, having lived it for 26 years.

I'm learning more reading real philosophy, now that I can make the comparison, which I never learned in scientology nor got the opportunity to make a comparison since I became so focused on Ron thru his use of Rhetoric.

Okay GIb, I see what you are saying and certainly have a lot of reality on how you feel. In the final accounting of our opinions, we are in agreement on many things. True, there is one thing that we don't fully agree on but that one thing is an important point to be sure. You think all Hubbard's writings are pretended knowledge and they should be burned while I feel that there is merit to some of his knowledge, when it is used by a person who is caring and is trying to help others. That's the only point where we don't have full agreement but even there we have partial agreement.

I don't insist that I am right, I respect your opinion and the opinion of most of the others who feel the way you do. You may well be right,

That's one thing about life on Earth, people see things from different perspectives and have different past experiences in their memory banks to compare things against. so well meaning people often come up with different conclusions. If everyone always agreed, life would probably be too boring to live. As I read on Facebook, somewhere, "If everyone agreed on everything, we would all be the same person."

If you take that in reverse, it leads to an excellent, "Why the universe got created" theory. Maybe we all were one Big Being who eventually got bored and was looking for some sort of game to play. To achieve a game, "it: decided to split off portions of 'it's' essence (sex did not yet exist so no he or she). and endow it with a fresh new memory and with free will. Two people in good agreement but not total agreement can certainly coexist and even be friends.

From Mama

Mama sent this to me almost a week ago and I never got around to posting it here. It is a story about 5 teen age Latino boys with limited education who invented something very technical and wanted to enter their invention in a contest in the USA, They would be competing with MIT students and such who were much more educated and better funded than they were.

A movie was made concerning this story called, "Spare Parts". The story is very inspirational so her is a link to it's trailer, supplied by Mama:

the first point is very important lakey...

the sea org is a paramilitary formation. american political science holds the wisdom of civilian control of the military to be self-evident

one could write a book in support of this idea; i think intelligent people should not need one, a word to the wise usually being sufficient

knock off the lying?

naaah...

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

In my opinion, Hubbard is an SOB. Forgiven or not forgiven he is still an S.O.B.. Hubbard pulled me out of CCLA Treasury, where I was winning, had lots of friends and was moving up the bridge and posted me as a purchasing officer on the yacht Apollo in Portugal.

There comes a point where you have to let it go, and move on with your life. It happened, LRH is dead, you are not going to get the years of your life back. Just let it go.

I've had people who have screwed me. I do not dwell on it. This does not mean that if I encounter one of the people on my "list", that I will pass up an opportunity to screw them. But until I encounter one, I do not dwell on the events. Shit happens. Be glad that fate didn't have you encountering Charles Manson.

Thanks for the advice but I let all of those types of incidents go quite some time ago. Letting them go, however does not mean that they are not still present in my memories. Sometimes, I will dredge up one of these incidents just to cite it as an example of something me and another person are discussing. Basically, they serve a purpose as examples or anecdotes.

the first point is very important lakey...

the sea org is a paramilitary formation. american political science holds the wisdom of civilian control of the military to be self-evident

one could write a book in support of this idea; i think intelligent people should not need one, a word to the wise usually being sufficient

knock off the lying?

Hubbard was a dictator, he controlled the civilian arm of his group from the outset. Later on, when he was forced to take to the Sea, he also formed the paramilitary arm around 1966. When Hubbard died, he did not provide for an successor to wear his many hats. I believe that he was telling all of us, tacitly, that no one person was competent enough to wear his hats. He appointed Pat and Annie Broeker as Loyal Officers, but there were no hat write ups for what they were supposed to do. DM wanted Hubbard's hat, all of it and he was crafty and skilled enough to do whatever was necessary to achieve his goal. He then became Dictator in place of Hubbard.

To put the Sea Org under control of someone else, not reporting to DM, would be virtually impossible in the dictatorship which has existed since COS was formed.

Your comment about getting rid of the liars and not lies doesn't add up either. Good people with excellent moral character join up with COS or are born into it and by virtue of being there, they are MADE into liars. I can think of three fine people to use as examples, one being Mike Rinder, another being Heber Jentzsch and a third being Larry Anderson, the actor in that Scientology intro video which all new prospects were requited to watch.

When I first met Heber, I thought he was one of the finest beings whom I had ever met. Using Yiddish, I would call him a "mensch". Also, when I was still in and saw a video of Rinder speaking, I was impressed by his sincerity and apparent honesty and intelligence. Larry Anderson, on his video is the epitomy of honesty, decency and high morals and you can see that even though he was acting, he was truly a very decent and honest person.

It was so sad to watch Heber on videos telling lies during the Lisa McPherson case investigation, putting down psychiatry and promoting COS's handling of Lisa during her short internment at Flag which quickly led to her untimely death at age 36. Alll 3 of these people were made into liars by COS. They were forced to lie as part of their official jobs there. My point is that you can't talk about getting rid of liars because no matter how honest a person is when he joins COS, tremendous pressure is put on him or her to lie for the church. What has to be done is to get rid of the lies which have been implemented by Hubbard and are carried on by DM.

right...

well, i wasn't going to go there. look, one week it came wednesdy night and i found i'd done 24:46 WDAH so to get my $25 auditor bonus, a decent piece of change in '73, i grabbed someone and gave them a touch assist for ten minutes and then another for seven. next day i add it all up and it comes to 24:53. i guess i made an error first time. i reported 24:53.

work with what it is and you work; work with what it ain't and you ain't workin'

i tend to think of hubbard more as autocrat than dictator and fine, it was his rodeo. and it's a hat that doesn't pass. he did write a concise list of the the things his hat covered and properly that falls into the grassroots

who should then refit the ship

Mama's Latest Post - More Serious and Factual than Usual

Mama has struck again but this time not with post which is choc full of knowledge and wisdom. Check this post out, IMHO, it is one of Mama's very best!!!

"When emotional intelligence (EQ) first appeared to the masses, it served as the missing link in a peculiar finding: people with average IQs outperform those with the highest IQs 70% of the time. This anomaly threw a massive wrench into the broadly held assumption that IQ was the sole source of success.

Decades of research now point to emotional intelligence as being the critical factor that sets star performers apart from the rest of the pack. The connection is so strong that 90% of top performers have high emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is the “something” in each of us that is a bit intangible. It affects how we manage behavior, navigate social complexities, and make personal decisions to achieve positive results.

Despite the significance of EQ, its intangible nature makes it very difficult to know how much you have and what you can do to improve if you’re lacking. You can always take a scientifically validated test, such as the one that comes with the Emotional Intelligence 2.0 book.

Unfortunately, quality (scientifically valid) EQ tests aren’t free. So, I’ve analyzed the data from the million-plus people TalentSmart has tested in order to identify the behaviors that are the hallmarks of a high EQ. What follows are sure signs that you have a high EQ.

You Have a Robust Emotional Vocabulary

All people experience emotions, but it is a select few who can accurately identify them as they occur. Our research shows that only 36% of people can do this, which is problematic because unlabeled emotions often go misunderstood, which leads to irrational choices and counterproductive actions.

People with high EQs master their emotions because they understand them, and they use an extensive vocabulary of feelings to do so. While many people might describe themselves as simply feeling “bad,” emotionally intelligent people can pinpoint whether they feel “irritable,” “frustrated,” “downtrodden,” or “anxious.” The more specific your word choice, the better insight you have into exactly how you are feeling, what caused it, and what you should do about it.

You’re Curious about People

It doesn’t matter if they’re introverted or extroverted, emotionally intelligent people are curious about everyone around them. This curiosity is the product of empathy, one of the most significant gateways to a high EQ. The more you care about other people and what they’re going through, the more curiosity you’re going to have about them.

You Embrace Change

Emotionally intelligent people are flexible and are constantly adapting. They know that fear of change is paralyzing and a major threat to their success and happiness. They look for change that is lurking just around the corner, and they form a plan of action should these changes occur.

You Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses

Emotionally intelligent people don’t just understand emotions; they know what they’re good at and what they’re terrible at. They also know who pushes their buttons and the environments (both situations and people) that enable them to succeed. Having a high EQ means you know your strengths and you know how to lean into them and use them to your full advantage while keeping your weaknesses from holding you back.

You’re a Good Judge of Character

Much of emotional intelligence comes down to social awareness¾the ability to read other people, know what they’re about, and understand what they are going through. Over time, this skill makes you an exceptional judge of character. People are no mystery to you. You know what they’re all about and understand their motivations, even those that lie hidden beneath the surface.

You Are Difficult to Offend

If you have a firm grasp of whom you are, it’s difficult for someone to say or do something that gets your goat. Emotionally intelligent people are self-confident and open-minded, which creates a pretty thick skin. You may even poke fun at yourself or let other people make jokes about you because you are able to mentally draw the line between humor and degradation.

You Know How to Say No (to Yourself and Others)

Emotional intelligence means knowing how to exert self-control. You delay gratification, and you avoid impulsive action. Research conducted at the University of California, San Francisco, shows that the more difficulty that you have saying no, the more likely you are to experience stress, burnout, and even depression. Saying no is indeed a major self-control challenge for many people. “No” is a powerful word that you should not be afraid to wield. When it’s time to say no, emotionally intelligent people avoid phrases such as “I don’t think I can” or “I’m not certain.” Saying no to a new commitment honors your existing commitments and gives you the opportunity to successfully fulfill them.

You Let Go of Mistakes

Emotionally intelligent people distance themselves from their mistakes, but do so without forgetting them. By keeping their mistakes at a safe distance, yet still handy enough to refer to, they are able to adapt and adjust for future success. It takes refined self-awareness to walk this tightrope between dwelling and remembering. Dwelling too long on your mistakes makes you anxious and gun shy, while forgetting about them completely makes you bound to repeat them. The key to balance lies in your ability to transform failures into nuggets of improvement. This creates the tendency to get right back up every time you fall down.

You Give and Expect Nothing in Return

When someone gives you something spontaneously, without expecting anything in return, this leaves a powerful impression. For example, you might have an interesting conversation with someone about a book, and when you see them again a month later, you show up with the book in hand. Emotionally intelligent people build strong relationships because they are constantly thinking about others.

You Don’t Hold Grudges

The negative emotions that come with holding onto a grudge are actually a stress response. Just thinking about the event sends your body into fight-or-flight mode, a survival mechanism that forces you to stand up and fight or run for the hills when faced with a threat. When the threat is imminent, this reaction is essential to your survival, but when the threat is ancient history, holding onto that stress wreaks havoc on your body and can have devastating health consequences over time. In fact, researchers at Emory University have shown that holding onto stress contributes to high blood pressure and heart disease. Holding onto a grudge means you’re holding onto stress, and emotionally intelligent people know to avoid this at all costs. Letting go of a grudge not only makes you feel better now but can also improve your health.

You Neutralize Toxic People

Dealing with difficult people is frustrating and exhausting for most. High EQ individuals control their interactions with toxic people by keeping their feelings in check. When they need to confront a toxic person, they approach the situation rationally. They identify their own emotions and don’t allow anger or frustration to fuel the chaos. They also consider the difficult person’s standpoint and are able to find solutions and common ground. Even when things completely derail, emotionally intelligent people are able to take the toxic person with a grain of salt to avoid letting him or her bring them down.

You Don’t Seek Perfection

Emotionally intelligent people won’t set perfection as their target because they know that it doesn’t exist. Human beings, by our very nature, are fallible. When perfection is your goal, you’re always left with a nagging sense of failure that makes you want to give up or reduce your effort. You end up spending your time lamenting what you failed to accomplish and what you should have done differently instead of moving forward, excited about what you've achieved and what you will accomplish in the future.

You Appreciate What You Have

Taking time to contemplate what you’re grateful for isn’t merely the right thing to do; it also improves your mood because it reduces the stress hormone cortisol by 23%. Research conducted at the University of California, Davis, found that people who worked daily to cultivate an attitude of gratitude experienced improved mood, energy, and physical well-being. It’s likely that lower levels of cortisol played a major role in this.

You Disconnect

Taking regular time off the grid is a sign of a high EQ because it helps you to keep your stress under control and to live in the moment. When you make yourself available to your work 24/7, you expose yourself to a constant barrage of stressors. Forcing yourself offline and even—gulp!—turning off your phone gives your body and mind a break. Studies have shown that something as simple as an e-mail break can lower stress levels. Technology enables constant communication and the expectation that you should be available 24/7. It is extremely difficult to enjoy a stress-free moment outside of work when an e-mail that will change your train of thought and get you thinking (read: stressing) about work can drop onto your phone at any moment.

You Limit Your Caffeine Intake

Drinking caffeine triggers the release of adrenaline, and adrenaline is the source of the fight-or-flight response. The fight-or-flight mechanism sidesteps rational thinking in favor of a faster response to ensure survival. This is great when a bear is chasing you, but not so great when you’re responding to a curt e-mail. When caffeine puts your brain and body into this hyper-aroused state of stress, your emotions overrun your behavior. Caffeine’s long half-life ensures you stay this way as it takes its sweet time working its way out of your body. High-EQ individuals know that caffeine is trouble, and they don’t let it get the better of them.

You Get Enough Sleep

It’s difficult to overstate the importance of sleep to increasing your emotional intelligence and managing your stress levels. When you sleep, your brain literally recharges, shuffling through the day’s memories and storing or discarding them (which causes dreams) so that you wake up alert and clearheaded. High-EQ individuals know that their self-control, attention, and memory are all reduced when they don’t get enough—or the right kind—of sleep. So, they make sleep a top priority.

You Stop Negative Self-Talk in Its Tracks

The more you ruminate on negative thoughts, the more power you give them. Most of our negative thoughts are just that—thoughts, not facts. When it feels like something always or never happens, this is just your brain’s natural tendency to perceive threats (inflating the frequency or severity of an event). Emotionally intelligent people separate their thoughts from the facts in order to escape the cycle of negativity and move toward a positive, new outlook.

You Won’t Let Anyone Limit Your Joy

When your sense of pleasure and satisfaction are derived from the opinions of other people, you are no longer the master of your own happiness. When emotionally intelligent people feel good about something that they’ve done, they won’t let anyone’s opinions or snide remarks take that away from them. While it’s impossible to turn off your reactions to what others think of you, you don’t have to compare yourself to others, and you can always take people’s opinions with a grain of salt. That way, no matter what other people are thinking or doing, your self-worth comes from within.

Mama just posted something on a completely new topic. The topic is Charlie Rush, ex CCLA Sea Org staff member and former drummer in the Apollo Band, "The Apollo Stars".

I knew Charlie little at CCLA. I was not a good friend but an acquaintance. He is really a happy and friendly guy, always smiling and always with a positive attitude. I paid him his $10 a week for 2 years. I was on study with him. He twinned up with Ken Wasserman, who used to supervise the HQS Course at CCLA in the early 70's Charlie and Ken were terrific study twins. They did a lot of course together and were good friends at the time.

The other thing I remember about Ken the most is that he had some kind of button on being a pirate in a past life and my Brother, also on staff, used to bull bait Charlie on the subject of being a pirate. My brother was the equal of Danny Kaye in mastery of dialects and mannerisms. Also, he had read the book Treasure Island by Robert Lewis Stevenson, probably several times and had seen the movie and movie serial in which the actor Wallace Beery played the leading role of the pirate, Long John Silver.

My Brother used the Wallace Beery voice to quote the lines out of the book, and my brother knew virtually every line by heart. Charlie cracked up after a few minutes after my Brother started bullbaiting him. I kid you not, that the two of them spent a full month trying to flatten Charlie's button on pirates but it was to little avail. Charlie could never flatten that button. He lessened it but could never flatten it. After about a month, during which time the study class frequently broke up while this bull baiting was going on, Charlie was transfered somewhere else and the bull baiting sessions ended with the button still not flat.

Any way, here are links to two pictures of Charlie and some text about him which Mama has supplied:

"Charlie Rush discovered he had cancer again just around Christmas. He has had it twice before. County Hospital in LA treats him.

I'm afraid this might be his last round up.
If you know him or especially if you're a friend, please call or go see him at CLO on LRH Way in LA.

He joined the SO in 1969 at CC.
He was the drummer for the Power of Source band. He was married for a while to Suzette Hubbard. He is a nice guy. Let's let him know, in his (maybe) last days, that he is loved on the outside too."

LRH smashed his name into history, well sort of.

Who said that postulates don't work? L Ron Hubbard had a postulate to smash his name into history.

This morning I was working the crossword puzzle in the Orange County Register. Clue #47 across said: "Hubbard of sci-fi (2 wds)" and left 4 spaces to fill in the name. I put in "LRon" and that turned out to be correct.

Its funny with these crossword puzzle clues, once they come into use, they usually last for decades. One such clue is a 4 letter word for a dog who played in the movies. the answer is "ASTA" who is the dog owned by Nick and Nora in the movie series "The Thin Man". This puzzle clue appears all the time but unless you are old or a crossword fan, no one would know the answer. I am both old and a crossword fan. The Thin Man movie genre is from the late 1930's and early 1940's.

Kids on my block started going to the movies on Saturday from about 1947 to 1950. I saw the "Thin Man" play there but it was already pretty old. I'll Google The Thin Man and see what they say. Here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thin_Man_(film)

For nostalgia buffs, prices movie tickets in the late 40's were generally 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for kids. However, the movie we went to, called the Variety was a budget type theater and the rate was only 25 cents for adults and 9 cents for kids. THAT'S RIGHT, 9 CENTS FOR A CHILD TO ATTEND THE MOVIES!! Even with a conversion factor of 10 or 11 to one for inflation, that would still be only $1 for kids and about $2.50 for adults in today's money. Not only that but for that tiny bit on money, we got to see previews of common attractions, 2 feature films, 5 cartons, a newsreel and a Serial!! The neighborhood parents loved it. They would drive about 6 kids to the movies on Saturday afternoon and dump us there for about 5 hours so they could have their private time. The movie theater, the "Variety" on West Adams Blvd. was about 1 mile from our house so we could walk home if we had to, but one of the parents always showed up to drive us home.

The first Thin Man movie came out way back in 1934. It starred William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles and of course their dog Asta was featured in the movie. The film was so successful that it spawned 6 sequels with the same stars. The last sequel came out in 1947. What a successful franchise, seven films over a 13 year period and then immortalized in crossword puzzles. Besides Asta, the dog, there are sometimes crossword puzzle clues asking for a star of the "The Thin Man". They leave 4 letters but the two answers Nick or Nora both contain 4 letters one doesn't know which one is the correct answer until one solves some more neighboring clues.

In closing, I might add that its funny how postulates can work, Hubbard wanted to SMASH his way into History. In a way, he did that by becoming a crossword puzzle clue. We have The Thin Man as a puzzle clue 80 years after the movie was made, and Hubbard will probably be a clue for many decades to come. I don't think that being a puzzle clue was what LRH had in mind but in a sense, he has become a part of history by being a crossword puzzle clue:coolwink:
Lakey

PS, I forgot to mention food prices. Small candy bars were 6 cents while popcorn and large candy bars were 12 cents, about 75 cents and $1.25 resoectively in today's money. They sold an "all day sucker" for 12 cents. It would last hours if one just sucked on it and did not bite into it. As to drinks, I don't remember that because my parents did not allow my brother or I to drink soft drinks. Probably a small coke was 6 cents and a large coke was 12 cents. Just imagine popcorn then and popcorn now, what a difference!
