Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

reply to Gib:

Thanks for those inks. A good read. I have been familiar with the Memory palace system for a while. Shkespeare always used it - apparently he got his actors to link the memorized lines to the different stage-entrances they would take and what they would see in the auditorium beofre them. Worked for him. Also Giordano Bruno was burnt on the stake for espousing these Hermetic ideas of memory palaces.

My view of it is sort of that it seems it would be workable for remembering a plays lines or the knowledge needed to pass a history exam but how do I use it to remember where I left my car keys or what so and so's name is or that the concert begins at 2.00 pm and not 3.00 pm? - as I found out yesterday.

And further - the memory I had and used all my life did not rely on systems like this - I just remembered what I wanted. Wasn't any syste needed at all. So how do I get that kind of memory back - that's what I want to know.

One thing I found out many years ago - when I need to remember something verbatim and I'm going to be reciting it later on, then I learn it in the body position and flow direction that I will be using when relaying it. So if I will be reciting them out loud then I say them out loud all the time when I'm learning them, with a mocked up audience in front of me. Or if its for a written paper then I learn it by writing it as though I'm writing the exam paper right there. This always worked for me.

And I often noticed that guys who tried to learn things verbatim for reciting by just inflowing it all silently into their heads over and over were never very good when it came to reciting it.

Good luck Lakey.

Can't wait for your progress reports.

I remember one time Oprah took all these declining menopausal women under her wing on stage. They each got to see her fav doctors. All were put on programs restoring their levels of this or that to what it was at the age of 25. It was sad because all were completely changed and vitalized with no more depression etc. None could afford to keep up all the essentials on their own after the experiment. You got to see the charts and test readings as an audience and were told what cures and meds and supplements were used. I am sure the show paid for a little while. Almost cruel though, to know folks what has money can afford to be 3 times more alert and have twice the energy and no arthritus flare ups....just because $$$$$.

And I mean, Oprah sprang for these top notch specialists from Switzerland and Johns Hopkins and graduates from Vienna and they injected quite fancy extracts from animal tissues and biological lab creations only unavailable to the elite. Cruel , cruel, cruel to watch how ALIVE these gals were when giving their testimonies about their lives changing radically....and how they were NEW people. They didn't get to keep their serums.

Thanks, Hats for the interesting post. I did not really follow that story at the time and found your comments above quite interesting.

As regards cost, I don't believe that a program focusing on organic, non GMO foods and stretching and exercise is necessarily too expensive for people of average income levels to afford.
It is true that buying foods from "Whole Foods" Markets is considerably more expensive than buying food from Wal Mart or even Safeway. However, natural foods do have features which offset their higher costs. One theory is that natural foods are the foods your body hungers for, therefore when you eat a reasonable potion of these foods, your body is SATISFIED and the hunger pangs cease. Eating commercially prepared foods, say a frozen pizza from the supermarket, your body is not really getting the nutrients which it wants and needs and so even though you have just eaten a large portion, you still are hungry and want more. Thus even though you pay more for wholesome foods, the quantity of the food you buy will be much less and you will save all or most of the cost of paying more.

By the way, speaking of income, I received some good news recently. The last time I communicated with my boss was July 28. He was leaving the USA to go handle a sales boom which he was having in the UK and Germany. I was placed on only a one day a week shift. I was just told to go in once a week and read the mail and handle any important mail and I would be paid for working one full day a week. The good news is that he will be at the office tomorrow and we are going to be bidding a new department store remodel in San Francisco, later this month and I will be returning to my former, 3 day a week work schedule, or possibly more hours than that if I am interested.

We have a similar problem with our medical system in the UK (which Americans would call "socialist", because it is free at the point of access). IMO, it does a great job on the whole at providing a good basic level of care for everybody - I've had two operations for skin cancer, of which one involved a skin graft, and didn't have to pay a penny for either of them. However, it struggles to keep up with the growth in people's expectations since the war of what good healthcare should consist of (it was started in 1948) or with the fact that people are increasingly living longer and as a result are falling prey to long term degenerative diseases. I really don't know what the answer is.

I was happy until it seemed small 'cabals' of employees in charge of certain administrational duties started acting out their issues on justice. I never deserved to be gotten even with. I never organized to put other people last. The purpose to make sure I get the realization that I am not 'special' is wrongly targeted at me. :grouch:

So many things need acting out. The dramatization to a completed cycle of action gives relief . Your bitchy wife or your angst filled teenage son need a certain 'result' in order to quit the frustration or passive aggression. Same goes with straining for karmic justice. But when we call the fire dept or the ambulance or need a court judge or a rescue plane to get us out of burning Yosemite we HOPE those individuals will be fair and BIGGER than their issues. The Golden Rule.....

I am ranting I guess because I just got a faulty power steering pump and they won't take accountabiliy for the work done last week. $ 422. We have a substitute mail carrier this month and everyone's mail is being rerouted twice or not coming for 2 weeks.. No one feels 'personally' accountable..

I was attacked several different times in a customer service area because somebody pre-supposed I had an attitude that I was 'more' important. I am a total doormat and non-aggressive. I don't like being 'capped' with some false identity because someone needs to fight that identity to the EP of a win for themselves. I do not deserve to be gotten even with. I worked hard for everything I got. I waited tables in a hotel lounge carrying food and drinks and rolling out bus pans and trash to the dumpsters for 35 yrs.....I don't like the covert and overt ways I MUST be shown that I am NOT more important than....(Who or What would need to act this out?) It's a wrong item.

Hat's, I believe that I do get your point! I want to add something to that however. In your first paragraph, last sentence I see an error taking place amongst the others and if I am not mistaken, you may have gone into agreement with that error. To wit, I submit to you that YOU ARE SPECIAL! You are You and I know for a fact that you are not ordinary. Those traits which make you who you are are SPECIAL. The exact proportions and forms of those traits has never combined before in the exact way in which they were combined in you. Also, it is very unlikely that such a combination of traits will ever show up again in this Universe. That is sufficient to makes you quite special in and of itself!

From what you say further in paragraph 3, by virtue of the goodness of your heart, in one of those fine traits which constitute your make up, you were willing to be a doormat for other people just to keep the peace and keep them from getting upset, erring, misjudging you once more and miss assigning you a false identity. Despite your extensive efforts to prevent these these from forming a false misconception of you and giving you a wrong item, they ended up doing just that!!

Hats, I am going to take this opportunity to give my opinion and analysis of what happened when you interacted with that group. Here is how I see it. You were astute enough, perhaps from earlier similar experiences, to realize that you might be given a wrong item. You correctly analyzed what might happen if you walked through that incident in a careless and flippant manner. Therefore, you took carefully thought out precautions to prevent that from happening while concurrently making an effort to protect the other people from unintendedly causing you needless upset.

You correctly calculated the scenario as it might play out and then planned a logical approach to the protect against the likely potential damages. Despite your extensive and logical plans to head off the trouble, which go so far as to make yourself a doormat for the other people, they don't even have sufficient perception abilities to come to accurately come to grips with the incident as it played out under your careful management. Despite all your best efforts to be a special person in a good way, they still construed your actions to end up fitting a preconceived mold which they had already cast you into, namely, they still saw you as a troublemaker who thought that she was better than everyone else.

Hats, I submit to you that you do not act as if you are better than everyone else, even among this motley group of people whom you recently interacted with. If the truth be known, IMHO, the problem does not arise from any beliefs which may be part and parcel of who YOU are, rather the problem lies with their inability to see things as they actually are and form accurate impressions and perceptions about you. It is their perception which is at fault and their perception is tainted by virtue of their inability to judge people and to see accurately what is actually motivating people other than themselves. In fact, they are ascribing to you the feeling of being superior which is a trait which already is present in each member of the group who misjudged you!

Hats, I am taking some liberties here in putting my own stamp on what went down as the incidents you described above unfolded. I am only doing this because I feel confident in my observations and conclusions and I feel that they may be helpful to you in sorting out what happened to you, what happened with them and how what happened may be sorted out to the benefit of all. If you read all this, thank for reading it and I hope that these observations serve you well.

I am sorry you had to undergo that. What I have learned is that in today's version of life there is a lot of aggression distributed randomly, in drive by manner.... I developed a strategy of being as low key as possible just because there is no telling just how far some angry bozo will go to get their pseudo-justice. The other day a man was in the news who ran over a small child. The child had run right into the road into traffic if I recall correctly. Yet being a good person he stopped the car and got out. Otherwise it would be a hit and run. And guess what? He AND his passenger were shot dead in retaliation. No explanation of why a baby was allowed to run into the street and why it was his fault he could not stop in time to save her. But I learned something from that. It would have been better for him not to stop. Instead, call the police, tell them what happened, give them your license, and location at home so they can come get you, plus the location of the scene of the accident.

If my understanding of that incident is correct, he is dead because he stopped and someone else decided to mete out justice on the spot.

Very interesting story, lot's of moral obligations and lots of food for thought. How could the murder of the driver also kill his passenger? Killing the driver is a terrible thing on its own but the mind can construct some kind of reaction which a remorseful parent of the dead baby might have. However, the passenger was simply a bystander and had nothing to do with the baby's death. The mind boggles as to the rational behind shooting the passenger.

Besides that, the fundamental question arises of why a parent with a baby, out for a walk, would be carrying a loaded gun.

Looks like per the link I posted above the murderer of the driver shot and killed a relative of the run ove baby. Not the driver's passenger. Either way it's a mess....

Lakey, you talk like a lawyer.

We are going into increasingly testosterone driven times. We have large underclasses trying to HAVE what has not been presented as opportunities in the past. The trouble with evolving from a crime ridden environment is that anti-social activity builds up resistence and barriers and havingness dwindles along with general good will. The false premise being projected is "I can have....because you OWE me....cause I am postulating it is my due on accountta you done me harm.' The guilt is a strategy to Winning.

I think every time I found myself in a confusing drama someone misperceived the correct present Time they were in and WHO I was. It is about heavy emotion. But there has to be consequences for allowing that forceful energy to take you over.

Here in my district the crime of domestic murder has hit an all time high. I am thinking that in the Honduras people don't ever get a legit divorce. They just shoot or douse the alienated spouse and kids with flammable liquids or drive the family car into the lake. It is really scarey in some of our sanctuary towns where folks have grown up with rural values. Butchering cows and pigs is only a step away from wringing a human rooster's neck. The Aussies and Kiwis have stories to tell about the odd family... social mores of those in the outback.

At least now social services can rescue the kids without the community feeling like there will be deportations if the law shows up and does a background check for bench warrants. Somebody will make that 911 call without being punished. Too many children aren't even getting to their 5th birthday. What have men and women become when life is nothing but a ball of abuse. Moms who kill are on my shitlist. What problem are these folks solving other than proving they are not going to stand for being recipients, but can Cause misery too. The pay off must be in Relief. There is always a payoff for behavior.

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

Just read the first link. Great stuff. Did you write this Gib? Maybe writing on the web is making our social skills pointless.... It's too bad. Apparently the god Theuth brought writing to man as seen in Plato's Phaedrus dialogue. And this 'discovery' was met with his father's displeasure....since writing is a way of subverting or 'killing the father' by subverting his power, duplicating yet replacing the father's power through it's 'dissemination' through the son's words in writing....and this leads to a whole literary and psychoanalytic tradition of killing the father...I included an essay by Freud on the topic below, just for fun, since I know that Dianetics is based on some of Freud's discarded theories as Atack well explains on Ortega's blog. An interesting question on the killing off of the father is how this relates to DM and his slow transformation of his spiritual father's (LRH) tech 'into his own' and his alteration of it's practice in many respects. (And his views of his literal father's life and death.)

I think I like the ancient art of oral tradition and memory. This is different from Chinese school since knowing by heart is actually to be able to improvise and create new stories whereas Scilons are not allowed to ever do that so they never become masters and remain inveterate students. What the article does not comment on is the way that old literary texts were written. they were actually not written but were oral stories. They follow a certain pattern, such that the Iliad and the Odyssey follow that pattern to the letter in every 'story' within. Each story contained certain elements that like Lego blocks could be recombined and individualized. The 'author' - Homer - is actually not a person. 'Homer' refers to the tech concerning stories. It could take 30-40 years to learn this tech of storytelling and all its techniques, that is how intricate it was. Thank you for the links!

http://g0spel0fj0hn.com/2011/01/06/killing-the-father-by-sigmund-freud/ Freud's discussion of the theme of 'killing the father.' Seems appropriate at the moment given the comments DM made about Ron Sr. to the PI.
http://www.units.miamioh.edu/technologyandhumanities/plato.htm The Plato passage about Theuth

BTW, the Freud essay, not that long to read and well worth it, is very instructive as to how DM rules the roost and how he treats competing 'males'.

No, didn't write it. I'm a researcher you might say, since I learned Hubbard learned Rhetoric thru his Dean Wilbur. And since I knew nothing of Rhetoric, I researched. And that research landed me on Rhetoric and Sublime. So, me question to meself was WTF is Subline? And WTF is Rhetoric? And why are the two connected, from my google search.

And then I read this, don't know if you have, it's quite interesting on the progress of language and the mind,

the ancients used the object of desire as first in a communication of thought, while the english language developed to place the "I" of thought first, completely opposite of the ancients. Yoda talk( latin), ie fruit give me, as opposed to in english "I would like some fruit".

It's a difference in logic, the subtleness of it and a difference in language.

https://archive.org/stream/lecturesonrheto31blaigoog#page/n137/mode/2up

The Chapter is "The Rise and Progress of Language"

I recognize folks here will not take the time to read about Hugh Blair and the influence he had at the times, and his understanding of Rhetoric, which means to persuade, which is what Hubbard did.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Blair

And this is Thomas Paine using pure logic, as one of the means of persuasion, to get people to think properly, as Aristole favored Logic, to persuade:

That was the type of thing which I was trying to get at in my post which you responded to. It seemed to me that only once you were able to reach such a conclusion, something of that nature, could you then come up with some solutions to see your way out of the dilemma.

Do Beings Have the Ability to place "Cameras" and "Microophones" around the universe.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE. TO HAVE BEEN OR NOT TO HAVE BEEN.
I went for a walk this morning and a piece of classical music popped into my head. I hadn't thought of this piece of music for at least 15 years, probably more, but I know that at one time I heard it on a regular basis. It could have been a theme song on a classical radio program or more likely, I owned a vinyl record which featured it and I played it over and over back in the late 60's. I know the piece very well, know all the nuances, trills and accents and the spot where each is sounded in the piece, Oddy, I don't recall the name of the piece.

In such a case, I tend to gravitate towards a catch all phrase that I must have encountered the piece in a past life. However, at this point in life, I am not even 100% sure that past lives even exist.

In response to that, I came up with the concept of a sentient being having the ability to put "bugs" around various physical points in his Universe, sort of doing surveillance on what is happening out there. By this construct, one could have impressions which seem like they came from a past life with out a person having to insist that hey lived past lives!!

Whenever I think up something like this, which is a new concept for me, I am always inundated by a torrent of communications from others stating that this concept is old hat for them. I don't mind when that happens and in this case, I am even hoping that this is the case with this particular item, the placing of audio and video "bugs" around one's own universe.

I love the this concept because it provides a gradient step between believing that we live only once and believing that we live a multitude of lives. It provides a means for someone alive today to have some first hand knowledge of past eras without actually having to have lived a life in those various past eras. For some of you who post here who are savants of one type or another when it comes to the technical aspects of this universe, it would be nice to get your opinions on this.

The areas where I have placed my video and audio "bugs" are in Ancient Rome, in the period from 50 B.C. to 150 A.D., Ancient Greece from about 350 B.C. to 200 B.C., Vienna, Austria from 1760 to 1813, in the American Colonies from 1775 to 1781 and in Nazi Germany and the Sudatenland from 1933 to 1938. Those are the time periods and places which hold the most fascination for me.

1950's Local TV in Los Angeles

Talking about TV from the late 40's, here is an example of a popular kids show which began airing on Channel 7, as I recall, which was the ABC Network affiliate in L.A.. The show is called "Space Patrol", it was designed for children and it came out in 1950 and was on between 5 and 7 I believe. From some of the comments written about the show, it was done live but was recorded using a process called "kinescope". The one writing the comments noted several errors made by the actors reading their lines so that's how he knows it was shown in L.A. live.

The comments section says that by 1954, the show was so popular in L.A. that it was shown in primetime and was consistently in the top 10 in the TV ratings in the L.A. area. To me, this is pretty poor scifi. I watched it every day in 1950 and 1951 but then again, I was only 10 years old in 1950 and not a very sophisticated viewer to say the least. There is no doubt that there was better sci fi and outer space shows on television during the early 50's. There was an early version of "Buck Rogers" and also "Captain Video and the Video Rangers". Both of those where national shows, originating on the East Coast.

BTW, for Christmas of 1951, some group made up of the parents of the children at my grammar school, Marvin Ave School, hired 5 members of the Space Patrol cast to come over to our Christmas celebration and put on a show. A group of parents had built a new auditorium right next to the school and were putting on their first annual Christmas Celebration.

The logistics were pretty interesting in those days. Once the shows began being recorded in kinescope, a hard copy of the kinescope had to be physically flown out to the West Coast. In those days, flying from New York City to L.A. was done with propeller plans and the flight took about 8 hours, if not more. Thus a show could not be seen in L.A. until at least the next day. I don't know exactly when it became possible to simultaneously put on a nationwide broadcast to the entire continental USA but I am pretty sure that it was in the late 1950's Maybe someone who knows more about this than I do can cite a good reference on this material.

Here is a link to a Space Patrol episode of the early 1950's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQOb0I09zMg

Pretty amateurish, or so it seems now, but in those days it was cutting edge tech. Notice the sponsor Nestle's Chocolate. I had forgotten that one but usually in those days one sponsor sponsored an entire show. There was a commercial near the beginning of the show, one in the middle and one near the end of the show. Most commercials were only one minute long so a half hour show only had about 3 minutes of commercials and they were all by the same sponsor.

Another area of interest is radio, it seems to me that when Roosevelt spoke to the nation during the WWII and even earlier during the 30's, a radio broadcast could be heard live coast to coast. Of course commercial radio signals did not travel anywhere near far enough to do that but I think that some sort of relay system was developed so that an audio message could be transferred coast to coast. Of course, a speech could be telegraphed coast to coast and someone in L.A. or S.F. could easily read a Roosevelt speech as it was coming in over the telegraph wire. I don't know, maybe in the 1920's that might have been cutting edge tech but not in the 1940's.

Well, I got myself interested enough in that topic to do a Google search and find out the true answers for this interesting topic.

Re: Do Beings Have the Ability to place "Cameras" and "Microophones" around the unive

opinions on this.
