Musicians; we're a breed unto ourselves! :)

That's so true!

Story time:
I wanted to pick up our trumpet player for our rehearsal that night. He opened the door and said: "I have a little conflict to solve ATM, so please come in - it won't take more than a few minutes." So I went in and what did I see? He and his wife having a huge fight. In the end, she yelled: "So who is it? Your stupid, fucking trumpet or me?" He replied: "You know what? I choose the trumpet." He went to pick up his instrument, then turned to me and just said: "Come on, let's go, man."

Musicians are a very special breed, indeed.

That's exactly why I, after having worked with that guitarist once, made it a rule to always have at least twice as much wattage on stage than I'd need under "normal" circumstances.

Yeah, If I'm the bassist, I want at least 8 6L6s and a full stack:omg:

There was a famous British cellist who got divorced at least partly for that reason - because his wife claimed he loved the cello more than he did her. The story goes that one night he was driving back from a concert with both his cello and his wife in the car, and then had a bad accident which he suffered concussion. Even by his own admission the first thing he did afterwards was check the cello to see that it was all right (not his wife).

Snipped.

Just to make things crystal clear, you were PM'ing me ... and I was trying to put a stop to it ... politely.

Many years ago (when Roger was still the Messiah) if anyone on this thread actually ceased sycophantically grovelling and stood up to him instead, I automatically did a triple somersault (sometimes with pike) and cheered ... I may have issues (lol) but I'm always upfront.

I don't believe it's healthy to replace one guru with another and it says very little for the "tek" if there's a need to.

No need to respond, I won't be bothering you again unless you mention my name and distort things.

Enjoy "your" thread.

On a more serious note, I was looking at your quote above, "I don't believe it's healthy to replace one guru with another and it says very little for the "tek" it there's a need to." I am looking at this statement and I don't fully get what you are trying to say. For example, say that Socrates was a guru of long duration and he dies and Plato comes along, wouldn't it make sense to possibly consider making Plato one's guru. If any one is going to do this, it would mean that they thought that Socrates's tech was good and in Plato, they saw a continuation of that "tech"

Example 1 - People have a Guru with bad tech and he dies. People will not necessarily do without a Guru, though that is possible. Generally people will go with a Guru with good tech.
Example 2 - People have a Guru with good tech and he dies. People will not necessarily do without a Guru. though that is possible. Generally people will go with a Guru with good tecd.

So to me. if there is a need for tech and an old Guru dies, people will always choose a Guru who they perceive to have good tech. In other words whatever the previous tech was, good or bad, it does not matter, people will always seek out good tech in a new Guru.

You are suggesting that it is not healthy to replace one Guru with another. Why do you say that? A dead Guru is either replaced or not replaced. Why is it healthier not to replace? How about a good reason why this is healthier?

Next you state that if the people do that, it says very little for the tech. Why do you say that? It does not necessarily say anything about the tech. if they need a new Guru, it really says nothing one way or the other about the tech used by the previous Guru. People will automatically want a new Guru with good tech.

I would appreciate it if you could please clear up these simple points. I mean, you wrote something which doesn't make sense to me and I would like to hear your explanation of why it makes sense. I think it is fair to ask you such a question. Every poster should stand behind their post. I am not being malicious in asking for clarification.

The WORST is when you lay down the tempo as bassist and the shitty guitar player comes in out of tune and out of time and then the motherlovin drummer locks in with the guitar player.:storm:

Am I missing something here ? ,never had that Problem ,Isn't the rhythm section, " Bass and Drums," sounds like the Drummer is Shit, Mind you I've been sacked from a lot of bands, I've always had the attitude to drive the music, and anybody else doesn't get a chance .Especially a guitarist. Its great that music has no rules. ... It was just a jam session. I did have some words with the drummer who damn sure should have known better. He actually was a pretty good drummer. He just wasn't paying attention. There's a little more to the story, but it just makes the joke unwieldy.:coolwink:

Meh, that's nothing. The bassist of Alex Oriental experience, I believe it was Helmut Hattler in that concert where I had to do the sound and stage sound engineering, had a 10.000 Watt [ten thousand Watt!] Reussenzehn Tube amp on stage. The stage was in a pub where barely 150 people fit in. So there were Alex with his big, fat, Mesa Boogie, the bassist with his Reussenzehn, and a drummer who could only be called brutal. They were absolutely great, but with that much power on stage, the weak little pub PA and the tiny monitor speakers on stage had absolutely No. Fucking. Chance. And who was blamed for that? The poor, friendly guy who's agreed to replace the regular sound engineer (who had called in sick) that night, so that the whole show could take place at all. Yours truly. :bigcry:

Here, pump up your puny little speakers to full volume and then some and have a little taste of Alex(RIP):

No, absolutely not. It might take me a few months to find out where in the world he (the trumpet player) currently is and contact him, but I could try to bring him here to personally confirm the story. I'm not willing to post his real name, though. He can do that himself, should it ever come to that, but I'd doubt that, since he doesn't like to spend much time on the
'net. :)

No disrespect to Alex Mr N., but for me the star of that show in the first clip was the dancer at the beginning :)

I've seen Alex in many concerts, even worked and jammed with him a few times, but this is the only show I know of where he had a dancer. Alex was known for always having the crème de la crème of German drummers and bassists in his band, for being brutally loud and for being the "Jimi Hendrix" of the electrified Saz (a Turkish folk instrument). I think the dancer was an extra piece of "sugar", hired for this very well known German TV show.

Here's one of my all-time favorites:

Even famous guitarists can play too loud though; according to Ron Wood, Mick Taylor royally p'ed off his former bandmates in the Stones (and Keith in particular) by turning up the volume when he reunited with them on stage once in in '81. I'd have thought there'd be a gentleman's agreement between musicians not to do this, but clearly it still happens.

Yes, it still happens. Wanna know why? Because distortions in the power stage of a tube amp give the sound a kick that can't be gotten elsewhere. No matter how much you boost the pre-amplification stage, you can't get that sound from there.

That's why, in recent years, small combo tube amps with only a 0.5 Watt power stage have become so popular - and believe me, even 0.5 Watt of tube power are WAY too loud for an average living-room.

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

Interesting about Burroughs, he was self professed Gay along with Ginsberg and Kerouac being Beat nicks. But, then again he meant gay as in the original pre 80s definition as happy care free. [strike]Burrows[/strike] Burroughs (FIFY), from what my barber said he was heir to the Burrows Calculator fortune.

I was in Golden Gate Park in 1968 when the Haight was thriving and some one told me about Ginsberg or Kerouac doing the Great Banana Sermon about Buddhism.

The sermon was short and pantomime. You take out a Banana and look at it quizzically. You peel the banana, then you gaze at the fruit and gaze at the peel. Then you have a epiphany, throw the peel away and eat the banana.

End of sermon.

Bless you as you depart this holy place.

Namaste :)

I assure you looker that William Burroughs was gay as in the contemporary use of the word.

IMO the banana story would be more enlightening if in the end you throw away the banana and eat the peel.

What a pathetic response!. An honest question is asked about a post with defective logic; instead of answering the question or fixing the defective post, a straw man is set up called overthinking and attacked so as to deflect attention away from the defective post This is very amateurish and is really a bunch of bullshit masquerading as wisdom. I ASK YOU WHO IS BEING HONEST AND WHO IS BEING DISHONEST?

This cheap technique is designed to deflect attention away from a flawed post so that post can stand unchallenged. If this cheap technique is accepted without challenge then any poster can write anything they like whether it is true or not and get away with it by simply bashing the person who noticed that the post had serious flaws. i ASK YOU ONCE MORE, WHO IS BEING HONEST AND WHO IS BEING DISHONEST?

This post is supporting the concept of "Truth be Damned", It says to us, "My friend has the right to write any statement she wants. It matters not if it makes any sense or not". "The important thing here is that my friend's attacker is using a technique called "overthinking". Beware of overthinking because it is a very dangerous technique used to deceive people while giving the appearance of being fair and honest.

One flaw in your "argument", FBM, is that I have been here as the OP of this thread for 6 1/2 years. If people should be aware of me as you suggest, I wouldn't have lasted 6 1/2 weeks. I am still around after all this time because I FOCUS ON TELLING THE TRUTH, NOT ON JUSTIFYING WHY THE TRUTH NEED NOT BE TOLD.
