I have a picture from 1938 which is similar.
I have a past life picture from Autumn of 1938 which is similar. My Father was uprooting our family from the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia, just annexed by Nazi Germany. We were on the road alongside some train tracks with a large horse drawn wagon with all out belongings heading southeast. A Nazi officer stopped our family and asked my Dad for our papers and my Dad sassed him and gave him a hard time and though he had all the papers he would not readily turn them over. Finally, my Dad yelled an offensive term to the Nazi Officer, cursing Hitler or something like that and the Officer made a sweeping motion with his hand and up from an embankment at the side of the road, a squad of about 5 Nazi's with machine guns came up with their guns pointed at us, the word Fire was barked and that was the end of all of us. I was 13 years old then and responded to the name Mauvi, pronounced Mau Vee. There were perhaps 5 of us, Mom, Dad, a slightly older sister, myself and a much younger brother maybe 6 or 7. It was all over in a second, there was no pain but I was really angry with my Father. There was no need for this, our papers were all in order and all he had to do was show them but he had to be a smart ass! A perfectly good family annihilated for nothing!!!

I solved that dilemma by getting myself killed by a bullet... oh that was a bad mistake, I still pay for it.

(This point being why I mentioned the flavored cigar scenario of our friend Alan)
