I just found a web page that has free military style music downloads:
http://www.gridcogames.com/HOI Stuff/military_music.htm
I like martial music, brass bands. Without them what would the Music Man (Robert Preston) save the world from Pool Halls with?
This guy has collected lots of old military band music from the US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain, Hungary, USSR, Russia
If there was ever an old military song that you liked, you may find he has it for free downloading.
i've always liked the Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa. I like to sing along (I'm not kidding). Back pre 1980, there was a radio station owned by a cowboy named Gene Autry. He had KMPC in LA and KSFO in San Francisco among many more. Those two I listened to day and night. On Sundays in the City (SF), there was a DJ named Scott Beach. He was a part of the original "Committee," a comedy troupe. He was multi talented. I worked with him on a TV game show where he was the announcer (and Jim Lange of both KMPC and KSFO was the host). He played every form of music imaginable. My favorites were ragtime, barbershop, and military band. His father was a member of "The Lake Oswego Four," a fantastic barbershop quartet in Oregon. Scott played his father's music. He also sang along to Stars and Stripes Forever. In case you download Stars and Stripes, here are the lyrics:
Stars and Stripes Forever
by John Philip Sousa
Let martial note in triumph float
And liberty extend its mighty hand
A flag appears 'mid thunderous cheers,
The banner of the Western land.
The emblem of the brave and true
Its folds protect no tyrant crew;
The red and white and starry blue
Is freedom's shield and hope.
Other nations may deem their flags the best
And cheer them with fervid elation
But the flag of the North and South and West
Is the flag of flags, the flag of Freedom's nation.
Hurrah for the flag of the free!
May it wave as our standard forever,
The gem of the land and the sea,
The banner of the right.
Let despots remember the day
When our fathers with mighty endeavor
Proclaimed as they marched to the fray
That by their might and by their right
It waves forever.
Let eagle shriek from lofty peak
The never-ending watchword of our land;
Let summer breeze waft through the trees
The echo of the chorus grand.
Sing out for liberty and light,
Sing out for freedom and the right.
Sing out for Union and its might,
O patriotic sons.
Other nations may deem their flags the best
And cheer them with fervid elation,
But the flag of the North and South and West
Is the flag of flags, the flag of Freedom's nation.
Hurrah for the flag of the free.
May it wave as our standard forever
The gem of the land and the sea,
The banner of the right.
Let despots remember the day
When our fathers with might endeavor
Proclaimed as they marched to the fray,
That by their might and by their right
It waves forever.
