children are the future
I've been waiting until our grandkids got approved for this. They just did interviews and were accepted for the People to People program. They are 5th and 7th grade. Basically it is a two week exchange student gig. Our 7th grader will go to Japan, and our 5th grader to Australia. The cost is very reasonable. We travel, we know. All of our kids, and now our grandchildren got in extensive travel at young ages. Our youngest daughter was a premier frequent flier at age 11. Not much has changed, in that regard, for her. The more challenging experiences kids have, the more capable adults they become. Here are their essays:
7th grader
My favorite subjects in school are P.E., science, and social studies. This year I am really enjoying working on our school’s television channel.
I like skiing, being in the Boy Scouts, swimming, riding my bike, skateboarding, and camping.
As part of being in the Boy Scouts, I participate in a number of community service projects, as well as events at the temple, where the troop meets.
I became an expert skier when I was ten years old.
My friends and I make our own movies.
In the fifth grade I went on a week long science camp, and this last summer I went on a week long camping trip with my Boy Scout troop.
I want to become and ambassador to travel to other countries, and learn about their culture and what they do.
5th grader
My favorite subjects in school are language arts, science, math, and P.E.
Outside of school, I love dancing and have been taking lessons for eight years. My favorite kinds of dancing are jazz, lyrical, and tap. Recently, I've also started volunteering as a teaching assistant at the dance studio with the pre-ballet classes. I also like to go horseback riding with my aunt.
I was a conflict manager at my school for the last two years, and was elected class president this year. This year, and last, I was also on the Student Council.
I dance seven days a week. Young children love me. I am an excellent singer. I'm not too shabby on a pair of skis. I took gymnastics for four years. I can ice skate. I love to swim.
I haven't had any travel experiences outside of my family, but I'm excited to travel with other people to Australia. A friend of mine, who has been, said it was very pretty
I would like to be a People to People ambassador so I can travel to a foreign country and learn about other people and cultures.
