Two long train trips lead to one very long post
In 1954 when I was 14, my Mom, Brother and I took the Santa Fe Chief from L.A. Union station to Dayton, Ohio to be present at my Cousin's wedding. The next year, 1955. I took the Santa Fe Chief again by myself all the way to Miami, Florida to spend the summer working at my Aunt and Uncle's newsstand in Miami. Both trips were memorable and fully recorded in my memory banks. Here are some details.
1954 - By '54 most people were flying, not going by train but I believe the train was considerably less expensive. The route of the Santa Fe Chief ended in Chicago at their huge rail terminal. The trip in 1954 took 39 1/2 hours from L.A. The top speeds attained were around 90 mph and this took place in the open plains in Arizona and New Mexico. I was told that in the 1930's before air flight became popular, the trip was made in only 36 hours. Speed was an issue at that time but by the mid 50's, those who wanted to go fast would fly so Santa Fe slowed down the Chief by 10% and was able to offer a better price or some such.
The train had observation cars where we could walk upstairs and view through large windows on the side of the cars which curved up into the roof. There was also a dining car with full service meals, maitre de, waiters and the refinements of a good restaurant. Also there were sleeping cars called pullmans.
The train was fully air conditioned in 1954 and there was an interesting feature where the seats could be pivoted to face each other so if someone wanted to play chess, checkers or scrabble, a game table could be set up. A neighbor of ours was traveling with us as far as Chicago and we had the seats turned facing each other several times to play cards and board games.
The food was catered by the Fred Harvey Company and the dining car kitchen and restaurant was called, Fred Harvey's Table de Hote'.
Of particular note along the way were the long trips through Arizona, which had interesting desert scenery and then the state of New Mexico, where all the soil had a reddish tinge to it. The train made its first stop in Albequerque which was about 1,000 miles from L.A. Albequerque is the biggest city in New Mexico but at that time it had probably only about 150,000 residents. The train stopped at a station in their downtown. Downtown Albequerque had some "tall buildings" if you call 11 stories tall. Almanac minded Lakey, counted the stories on the taller buildings and I believe the tallest one was 11 floors. There were quite a few such buildings and it gave the feeling of being in a fairly large city.
I believe we followed along pretty closely to Hightway 66 all the way. I remember going through Kansas City Missouri, a city of some 450,000 and they had a very large downtown with actual tall buildings perhaps in the 25 to 30 story range. Kansas City's downtown looked much more impressive than Los Angeles's because though it had 2 million people, L.A. had a height limit on all its buildings which was 13 floors. The reason for the height limit was twofold, the fear of earthquakes and the attempt to make L.A. seem Mediteranean in nature, sort of the sunny, palm tree lined, balmy place which it was in the 50's. The one exception to the 13 story rule was the L.A. City Hall for which an exemption was made and it was allowed to be about 26 floors.
Chicago was huge and had 3.6 million people with 45 -50 story towers covering large sections of this great metropolis. Santa Fe's line ended in Chicago and we got off and waited several hours to catch our train to Dayton. The journey to Dayton was short consisting mainly of crossing through Indiana and I remember the conductor walking down the aisle calling out the town of "Terra Haute" in a rich and mellow bass voice and the train did stop there. I do not remember what rail line that train was but it was not Santa Fe.
1955 Lakey actually sees the end of an era of Open Racism! To go to Miami, there were two choices open to my parents, the Southern Pacific line or the Sante Fe line to Chicago, then catch a train from there to Miami. For some reason, they chose the later.
The trip to Chicago was the same as above. Oh, I forgot to mention that in 1954 and 1955 both, I went to the observation car when we were crossing the Rocky Mountains. It was a beautiful thing to behold the Rockies from the observation cars. Many people were in the observation cars, some taking pictures. The train slowed down to probably 20 mph. Imagine all the work the engines had to do, pulling a long train uphill when climbing the Rockies. It was many hours of going extremely slow but the view was beautiful.
The difference in the trips started when I arrived in Chicago. We had a 5 1/2 hour lay over and I went to the tallest building in town, which was about 600 feet tall. Nowadays they have the Sears buiding, over twice that height. I went on the observation tower of what I believe was the Chicago Mercantile Building. The views were breathtaking and memorable.
LAKEY EXPERIENCES RACISM FIRST HAND - WE CROSS THE MASON-DIXON LINE. At night while I was sleeping, there was a lot of banging and shifting or railroad cars. I was half asleep and heard this but did not know what was happening. In the morning, I started walking to the dining car to have breakfast and lo and behold, all the cars had been rearranged. Now, I walked through two or three cars whch were occupied entirely by black people. We had crossed south of the Mason Dixon Line and were probably in Kentucky or some such place. Everything was segregated, the coach cars and their restrooms and the dining cars. Signs would proclaim, "White Only" or "Negro Only" Boy, I will tell you, this really made a big impression on me!!! I knew this was wrong from the first second I laid eyes on it, I had knots in my stomach and probably a lot of my creepy crawly entities were activated, I looked at the black folks as I walked through their cars. They were all pretty well dressed, many men in jacket and tie and many women in nice dresses. They were animated and talking amongst themselves. Their facilities were of similar quality to the White facilities. THIS WAS A MANIFESTATION OF THE SEPARATE BUT EQUAL DOCTRINE!
The trip from Chicago to Miami took 23 hours! Added to the 39 1/2 hours to get to Chicago, I was on the frickin train for 62 1/2 hours. When I stepped off in Miami, I was sort of sea sick and this clackity, clackity, clack sound was in my ears for the next two days. The Miami station was something to behold. All bathrooms and drinking fountains were labeled as to White or Negro. It was disgusting but I witnessed history there in the Southern United States of America in 1955. I felt ashamed of my country and ashamed to be an American right there in the Miami station.
I will never forget the forlorn feeling of betrayal which I felt at those moments, being taught our country was a beacon of freedom for the whole world in school and then seeing this blatant racism being condoned. fostered and accepted as law in our Southern states. How wrong can something be? Having a whole class of upstanding, hard working people being held down as something less than human right here in the open in my own country,,,, the injustice was almost more than I could bear. I did what little I could to fight it as a 15 year old by sitting in the "Negro Only" sections in the back of the bus, whenever I had occasion to take the bus in Miami.

Clarification of what happened
I got invited to the party by Hector. I was told it was for ex CCLA staff so I quickly called Candy and invited her since she was CCLA staff too. Hector called me back told me that the person hosting the party said that I was okay but that Candy could not come. I asked, "Why, praytell, is Candy being barred?" I was told that the hostess knows that Candy still believes that some of Scn tech works and that anyone who believes that is not welcome. I told Hector that I believe that as well so I will not be coming either. He said fine. I had to call Candy and tell her we could not go and she hit the roof.
How small is it to bar someone from your party because they believe that some pieces of Scientology are effective? I would never associate with people of such a mindset, They are not any better than C of S in my opinion. They are being foolish and stupid. Who needs it? There are so many people of good will and with some sense of sanity and justice which appreciate good communication and dialogue, why mess around with a few sickos? Like they used to say in Scientology, we will pick them up later on and get them cleaned up too.

. Also, the CoS/ExCos trip is like a tiny flea to me = half the time they seem to be blood sucking, no matter what side they're on. I prefer evolution and long ago had gotten away from an 'only Hubbard is God' mentality. When you trace the origin of most of the concepts, they emanated from Jung, etc, including the use of the e-meter device, etc. Would love to have access to new terms...I believe ACW got closest to achieving that with his Knowledgism.

You can use a bit of immoderate language, my experience, but refering to someone as a "fuck wad" probably made them willing to listen to someone's complaint. Begin a new page, possibly with a middle initial for differentiation, and you might be jes' fine.

we as a group were so full of lies and innuendos, and they were so on to us, missing all our withholds, no wonder hubbard went crazy...it's all clearly elucidated in the tech: just harder to see the forest for the trees when you're deep up to your knees in kimchee. LOL
and the beat goes on= the Church of Scientology, built on a foundation of lies and deception, can only withstand so much truth currently being broadcast by those kind hearted souls who spearheaded the movement, myself included, back in the days of swashbuckling, dream-driven amazing supermen and women.

Carrying a lance invites white chargers from the other side. If that's the game you want, so be it. It seems the reason some folks embroiled in the SCN oven is they wanted to fight against wrong. My experience is that right exists where one happens to be standing.

For Candy, we need to brainstorm a bit over the phone or over coffee and work out some way to get the word out as to your true motivations and the true techniques which you use in your counseling of people. I am pretty much limited to putting things out on the Apollo '73 thread or on my own Facebook account. Right from the start, I suggest you and I co write a letter which I can write on my Facebook account, giving your slant on what happened. This would be a start and then all of the Apollo '73 readers who have Facebook accounts could also post on Facebook in your behalf.
I am sure there is a way to contact Face Book and have you reinstated but I do not know the procedure. Certainly you would have to contact their Webmaster. Meanwhile Nexus suggestion is very good. By adding your middle initial or calling yourself Purple Haze or using your other first name or your other last name, you can get a presence back on Facebook until such time as your situation is fully cleared up with the Webmaster.
Please, any other readers who are more internet savy than Candy or me, notify her of the proper procedure for her to get herself reinstated on Facebook.

This scenario is a very good example of what ACW refers to as the "Power Split" that I spoke on in my Pasadena FZ presentation.

She grew up knowing personally a lot of very fine auditors.
Chance are good (say 100%) that she was a Class Vlll in her last lifetime and a firecracker then. Jus' sayin'.

That trying to "handle" people, governments, the planet, everything... from "three feet behind" is a disconnected position.
Hubbard was disconnected, or couldn't connect with extant networks, so he ranted and nattered.
The whole of Scientology is disconnected. What do you think of an auditor who cannot connect? I think not much. This makes for very poor auditing. Disconnection (and disassociation) makes for a very poor friendship. It makes for a very poor condition of living.

Same kids whom clearly had quite remarkable parents who gave them love, support and ecouragement, thus enabling and empowering them with a deep selfconfidence, a sense of being imortant, central to their parent's world, through being and feeling so very loved. It, surely, is that, that allowed them to blossom and grow in the fullest sense and become complete and wonderful adults, enabled to achieve such great and such remarkable things in their lives. Well done to you. It is such life affirming stories as your's that point to the real solution.

This is a very right item.
The ideal scenario is for a Being to be able to permeate and be at one with and in harmony with all. Then there can be the loving and harmonious action of influencing.
When in that position of loving "oneness" one is most easily duplicated. And one can most easily, and actually only then, can truly duplicate and get the actual truth of things.
So, "being three feet behind" or out of anything is really a losing proposition destined to cause strife.
But by the same token one does not have to be "in" the thing . . . one can be bigger than it while permeating it within oneself.
