I'm going to assume you are attempting humour by asking for a reference to the fact that Scientology is a religion. I'm not sure if you really don't understand what a "strawman" is but, just in case, see here. Your dismissal of further discussion on the basis that I am an Anon amounts to an ad hom. You'll find a reference to that at Wikipedia as well, although this one explains it a lot better.

The point is that Mary is deliberately hiding the fact that she is a Scientologist. She doesn't even use the term "Auditor". She is NOT promoting her religion. Instead, she cowers behind the nebulous generic title of "Life Coach". If she was wishing to practise what she preaches in terms of ethics and integrity she would make her Scientology practise clear. To do otherwise is to deny the public informed consent. Lets assume that an innocent drawn into Mary's deceit is also, oh, I don't know, lets say, Catholic. Do you think the Catholic would want to know that the basis for Mary's work includes the concept that the Christ phenomena is an implant foisted onto human memory via a movie shown on a giant screen by UFO aliens? What about statements from L Ron Hubbard that he has visited Heaven and found it to be shabby and barren? I would say those facts might be pertinent to a decision to share one's problems with another, wouldn't you?

Oh, by the way, this is far from my last word.

My point was that she was not hiding her scn connection, but addressing different auditory with appropriate language. I don't see why people should not benefit from scn tech only because it's name got screwed by church act. If it helps it should be used.

But it doesn't help. The simple fact is that there is nothing of benefit in Scientology that cannot be found elsewhere and which is also cheaper, more effective, longer-lasting and far, far safer. If grown adults want to endure regular hypnotic-like trance states in an effort to draw near to some UFO nirvana, then go for it. Only, stay away from children and cut the bullshit. If you are practising Scientology and want to encourage others to do so, then be honest. Show some integrity.

Oh, sure, sitting down and talking about your problems with someone who listens (apparently) without judgement is bound to be helpful at some level. Thing is, Scientology is not as effective as other avenues. Its a religion, for a start, and so is bound by scripture, insane scripture in Scientology's case. Further, every auditor in their heart of hearts believes that a person is best off if they are "on the bridge". What this means is that a simple conversation to overcome a temporary difficulty is seen as an opportunity to apply that insidious "Affinity" so as to twist reality into an acceptance of more and more of the scripture. Eventually, a person becomes so cognitively deficient that they are willing to accept the most outrageous science fiction as truth. No doubt you do know many people who say they were helped. Unfortunately for them, they could have received far better, more effective help outside of Scientology.

Anyhow, even if it does help, how come Mary is hiding the fact that she is a Scientologist?

Last Thursday I was invited to, of all things, a Kiwanis Club anniversary luncheon meeting. I attended along with Candy and Edey. A major city Mayor and Councilman were present and we got a chance to "rub elbows" with some big shots. I knew nothing about the Kiwanis Club except that they usually have a float in the Rose Bowl parade on New Years' day.

They are about traditional old fashioned American type of values...its sort of like the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts for adults. It was like revisiting the society in which I grew up in during the 1940's and 1950's, i.e. baseball, apple pie, Norman Rockwell's view of America, etc.. Most of the people who attended were very friendly and "down to Earth" (meaning being themselves without a lot of pretenses).

Friday was busy, a Japanese Buffet Brunch in Newport Beach put on by Kangen Water starting at 9:30 AM then back to my condo by 2:30 to show my new place to my friend Ken Rothschild, whom I have known since Jr. High School (1953) then to Laguna Niguel's Mimi's Cafe for a birthday to honor one of my newer friends.

After the birthday party ended, Candy and Lorinda, who I attended with both wanted to go to a bar to listen to music and do some dancing. We were all driving together so I had to tag along. By that time, I had heavy congestion in my chest and was already feellng pretty sick. I hope I did not spread the sickness around. So far so good, no one who was at the events with me has come down with it yet. I rested almost all of Saturday, all of Sunday and most of today.

Candy is putting on the first seminar on Feb 5th on the Axioms but she is going to discuss her 3 favorite axioms instead of Axioms 1 to 10. We have about 12 to 14 people confirmed for the event. Candy is calling herself the Facilitator. She will lead the discussion but we are encouraging a lot of dialogue and interaction. We are hoping that it will be sort of like a live version of an ESMB discussion thread. We are letting it run 3 hours with 1/2 hour for a coffee, tea and "nosh" break to socialize and exchange contact info.

I hope to be the Facilitator for a seminar on "The Factors". Needless to say, Johnny has a lot of areas he wants to facilitate as does Candy. The crowd is formed mainly from ex Scios, Freezoners and Independent Field people although there likely will be some new people there as well.

We are hoping that these events will become a third dynamic activity which will occur on a regular basis.

What a timeless piece of film making by the "boys"! Apparently this film was made in 1931 and was an early example of a "talkie". Laurel and Hardy made the transition from silent films to talkies very successfully.

There is something elegant and very "artsy" in this extremely low budget type of film making. None of the elements which are considered necessary for a movie to be successful today are present!!

There are no big name and high priced supporting actors, no traveling to exotic locations to film, no color, no computer generated graphics, no sex, no explosions, no gory deaths or disfigurements of bodies, no musical sound track, no four letter words, etc..

IN SPITE OF MISSING ALL THESE "NECESSITIES" REQUIRED BY MOVIES TODAY TO HAVE ANY CHANCE OF BEING SUCCESSFUL, THIS CLASSIC FILM IS VERY ENTERTAINING AND EVEN MAKES A VERY RELEVANT AND TIMELESS COMMENT ON THE HUMAN CONDITION ON PLANET EARTH.

This movie also lives on to some degree without any promotional budget. Probably most of the Americans who read this thread have encountered the movie in their childhood and it made a deep enough impression on them that they retained a memory of the movie over the course of their entire life.

Just an update on how I'm doing with the flu. For the first time in about 5 days, I don't hear "music" every time I draw a breath....you know the phlegm and conjestion in the larynx area, does not cause harmonica like musical notes to sound with every breath. I think the conjestion is nearly gone but then just cough a little and it is revealed that the conjestion is still present.

Thanks to FoTi for her links to "mm". I had never heard of that before. Also, thanks Terril for commenting on wanting a video of the seminar. I will mention that to Candy. Neither she nor I own a video camera but perhaps someone who will be attending does. Even a 5 or 10 minute clip just to show the flavor of what is going on would be useful.

I have been reading and playing along on these scientology-centric discussions since the mid-'90s. It's time I stated an observation:

Some of you had a bad experience. You were victimized. You were duped. Perhaps you were raped of all your finances, dignity, and self-respect. I am sorry. You have every right to complain. Holler. If you continue to get kicked while you are down, holler louder. Holler to the right people who can do something to help you. You had no responsibility in the matter. The way you were treated had nothing to do with you at all. You were a victim.

Okay. That last part was a bit sarcastic.

If you were an auditor, case supervisor, DofP, Qual person, course super, and you are also an incessant complainer/victim, I am thankful, thankful, thankful, that you and I did not meet on my way through the scientology experience. Thankful. No matter how fucked that experience turned out, it would have been far, far worse had I a bellyaching auditor or C/S following some exec's orders or even using some L. Ron Hubbardism to fit me into the one-size-fits-all system.

I worked with good people. Many are still my friends even though they, too, are long gone from scientology. One of the best things Hubbard ever came up with was during the St. Hill BC days when he created a unit that allowed for the rock-slammers to continue their auditing and training by auditing with other rock-slammers.

Take the hint: Find or create your own thread to muddy up. In the meantime, picket! Write you Congressman. Take out an ad extolling the dangers of participating in the church. Write up your story in great detail. Publish it.

Ahhh - yes. The ole "you're a victim" tactic, that perennial favourite of Scientologists everywhere. Yep, no doubt about it, Ted, seven year old Derek Green "pulled it in" when L Ron Hubbard shut him into the chain locker aboard the Apollo. Just as well there were no bellyaching, complaining, or ethical Scientologists on board in those days. Up-tone all the way . . . hip hip hooray. And never mind anyone who sees a celebration of those times as akin to a dining room conversation at the home for retired Belsen gas fitters.

The other thing I have to say is that this is a happy thread . . . we sort of have the unwritten code of conduct here of not throwing shit at each other. No cheep shot invals . . . we left that behind in the Cof$. We are friendly here.

Please don't run rants against others and do put-downs here. It turns things nasty, and junks up the niceness we had going here.

If you want to sling stuff at folks . . . start a mudslinging thread :D Hey that's an idea . . . a mudslinging thread is need for Rockslammers! :yes:
