Sooner or later, whether in school or an indoctrination class, you are likely to encounter an instructor who says to the class, "Don't assume anything. Do you know why? Because when you do, you make an ass out of you and me." He turns to write on the board, "ASS-U-ME."

"Clever," so I thought.

I first saw that in boot camp. Putting the statement in the context of a class of new recruits or something similar, it is correct enough. Since that time, I have seen an ignoramus or two put their clever selves on display in an attempt to "make self right and another wrong" by a show of "superior knowledge," the knowledge obtained from one of those earlier instructors. The attempt doesn't work as contexts change--not all assumptions are bad. In fact, assumptions are quite necessary, and they make life a whole lot simpler for a thinking, survival-oriented being. It is in forgetting that one is operating on or has made an assumption when the context has shifted, that's where the difficulties lie.

I awoke yesterday morning--as I assumed I would. And I began operating this body in a sea of assumptions, automaticities, postulates, and considerations. This gave me a feeling of predictability--HAVINGNESS!

I worked my way through this HAVINGNESS to my truck. I assumed it would be where I parked it--and it was there. Getting in, I inserted the key, and gave it a crank. Assuming the engine would start I would be on my way in just a few seconds. And, I was! HAVINGNESS!

Putting my favorite CD in the player--thank you Hats--I am giving it a listen. HAVINGNESS!

All these life actions, large and small, are coincident with many assumptions. What could go wrong with that?

How fast can a being change gears, considerations, postulates, plans? Does the being change these things or does the being assert an old assumption, postulate, consideration, etc. against a context that has changed so that the old consideration no longer applies?

A while back my youngest daughter and I took off in her Honda Accord for a run at the lake. The Honda is a beautiful little machine; it runs with smoothness and precision like a fine Swiss watch. We gave no thought about whether it would take us to the lake. The car was but 2 years in use, purchased new. After our run we got into the Honda, she turned the key, and the car was completely dead. No lights, no action, no crank, nothing.

We could have asserted the assumption that there ~should be~ nothing wrong with the car, and continued to twist the key looking for the expected, assumed outcome. And, when the key did not work, we could have, as I have done in my more aberrated past, cursed the car, Honda, the Japanese, the Florida heat, life in general, etc. None of that would have started the car or got us a ride home.

We located a park ranger. He provided a jumper cable. The car started. The next day the Honda dealer said, "Bad battery, no charge for replacement." Everything back to normal. Old assumption working again: turn key, car starts. Nothing to think about in that regard.

Leave house by 8:00 a.m., make it to work on time. There's an assumption that's frequently under attack. Damn traffic.

As Hubbard wrote, "That which is not confronted and inspected tends to persist."

More to follow on service facs...

Wow, I didn't expect something would drag me into this pile of still-cultist mess of a thread, but I can't let this bullshit stand.

See, I grew up in a time and a location where it was still standard drill for all the school children to stand up when a teacher enters the room. For my 1st 5 or 6 years in school, stand up is what I and my classmates did several times a day. There indeed was a delay, something that you in your deluded cult speak might call a "comm lag" or whatever, and I can tell from years of personal experience, that it had nothing to do with any postulates of any kind. Absolutely nothing. Niente. Nada.

So how about throwing some reality into the mix, huh? Shove your postulates to where the sun doesn't shine and look at what's really there.

Oh, go stick your head in the mud. :pfft: :neener:

"Ted, extremely interesting post! It is very simple on the surface but there is some meat within it which I am sure belies that simplicity. Your last sentences is helpful, knowing that you will follow with more on service facs.

An interesting example of an assumption we all make came to mind. This relates to a little drill which Peter Gilham had a group of students do when I went to a class he gave on salesmanship in 1978.

We were all asked to sit in our chairs and obey a simple command which Peter was about to give us. He then said, "Stand Up!" What seems to happen is that we postulate the space above us before we stand up into it. Each of us definitely had a very short communication lag, before executing the command.

We all assumed there was space above our heads to stand up into without bumping our head but nobody had actually surveyed the upper portion of the room for obstacles such as hanging lights and the like. We had one thing to think about before we stood up and that was whether there was something we might bang our head into. The other thing was that each of us postulated the space was there before we stood up into it.

Its a fun drill. Just do it and you should actually be able to feel yourself creating the space above your head to stand up into."
Lakey

Dang ya'll, I must be some kind of weird. When I want to stand up I just stand right up without consciously putting a whole lot of thought into it.

Hey, now, I've even been known to climb up right a ladder!

Never did I stop first and make sure I created the "space" to before I entered it.

And, gosh, in an airplane? Wow ! Talk about creating space in a hurry !
( Never mind how a bird flies ! )

Or maybe I achieve that thing they call OT and I don't have to go around creating space?

And back in the day, over 30 years ago - 1978 ish -Peter Gillam was a fun guy to spend time with.

A lot of really interesting stuff here. Thanks to all, not only Rog but the others who contributed too.

The Serv Fac (note use of "the") is of course the present lifetime button on the Goals chain. It is the beingness side of the postulate - the serv fac is a fixed "beingness" (brng right) which compells the person to 'do' in a fixed, patterned way. The Hav side of the Goal is the postulate that the other person will accept this 'rightness' etc and so not be a threat to survival. [This is a very rough description]

The basic this lifetime Servfac has many many locks connected with it - this is fully described by LRH - and these locks often come up in session, and are not - or should not be - invalidated by the auditor. Probably most preclears are given such a lock ServFac as being the real item (which it is, in its way - it is the item most real to the preclear at that moment) and the grade is left at that.

But there is the real corker underneath it all. I have seen this too often to believe otherwise. And when that biggie is found and indicated the entire this-lifetime case disintegrates in front of your eyes. It is one of the most spectacular things to witness as an auditor, and for the preclear it changes everything. Life changes totally, who they are changes, who other people are (or are perceived to be) changes for them. The tarnsformation is nothing short of miraculous.

I have more than once had the preclear spontaneously blurt it out while I'm still clearing the meaning of the term "Service Fac" - aan action which can stretch to well over an hour on most people - and then the case is so thoroughly blown out that running the brackets becomes a superfluous action.

Oh, and BTW. I myself have never had Grade 4 run on me. Nor 3, nor even 2. So I'm "entitled" to still be ServFaccy. LOL.

Wow Leon. That's how I have seen it to be too. Almost everyone is using something to assert their agenda or hold a position in space. It's the contact lens, the ROCK, that anchors us in the sea of confusion. I always felt level IV was followed up by Ex Dn because there were heavy engrams causing the effort to maintain a certain guise/attitude.

I never really observed that many got enough out of that level. I thought the early idea was smacking brilliant. But like you said, mostly just locks popped off. I relate this also to goals listing which was similar in vein. When asking for THIS lifetime only items one is very limited, as if LRH did not want the same area stirred up by incompetence in understanding auditing.

Shit. Even being a human being is a perspective in the game that solves previous problems. We say, 'touch me and you'll get it right BACK.' Manufactured synthetic karma mechanisms.

The no fly zone over this area is most probably postulated by us with rigidity so that we can have and be safe in the life processes below. We are RIGHT for being in this particular matrix by the standards of many who have accepted this as a penalty universe. So we are right for nobly having accepted being made wrong and sentenced. Ah, but that brings in the concept of Justice and how RIGHT it is to atone for ones misdeeds. A service fac projected on all by all. Or at least an expectation.

Every identity in the game is inherently packaged with its anti-idea to ensure some persistence of vwpt. for the sake of the game. It's innate.

But when you look at the feeling that you have to injure the survival of others and escape domination....you automatically pull History of Man type shit to the top of the bank and you're getting organism charge. I did not find it at all possible to run anything deep enough with the one lifetime spin. Locks sit on top of locks when you start scanning a chain of embedded attitudes.

For me, the grade was a pot boiler. Big errors. Right items ignored. I listed for 20 yrs. I pulled in the biggest implants. The list errors spun me right into other stuff. Chopping theta bodies up and making all the parts compete with themselves. Sperm wars. Astral body hierarchies. It all went on automatic run from the inept running of the grade. The subject of survival and how we fight to keep our places, and keep things from ever overwhelming us again is a deep deep can of worms.

Today I realize how light a process it could've been if it had been handled right. The BEING has his basic ser fac sitting right on top fairly accessible. It has to do with his perspective in the game. His journey, or locked in convictions. It was the biggest tragedy that the definition of an exactly stated computation was crammed down ones throat. This brought it back into the realm of implant matter instead of a chosen nuance in the rarified essence of a being.

Leon, you must be something at clearing the concepts in processing. Sometimes that's all it takes.

I think in clearing ser facs by dynamics there could have been a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You need intelligent auditors not sitting in a fixed idea of their own. But gee, even the idea of YOU is a fixed idea.

Dynamics are about the issue of survival. If all cleared up....then what viewpoints need to absolutely survive or be defended from others at all cost.

Blew down on this part. Nobody cleared that in any prep I ever heard about..:eyeroll:

Hats, for someone who claims not to be an auditor, you be once sharp cookie!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I will cover these points when I can get to a write-up on serfacs. It will be a few days. The process is simple and a ton of fun.

Thanks Ted. Waiting patiently....

I listed for 20 yrs.

No one ever gives the big guy credit for what he uses to help make other people right and himself wrong. Some people have this proclivity. It runs along the lines of "To suffer is to be right". It's also a betrayal of self. This is not natural and I suppose a person has gone into the overwhelming valence of some enemy. One does not maintain a position in space very well when he feels criminal and 'undeserving'. Lately I have spotted this service facsimile employed; the making of others to be less present and threatening by projecting intense disdain and soliciting others to disdain and frown down upon. This flow itself when laser beamed strongly can 'miss' every unacceptable attribute you ever had.

I am amongst elderly ladies lately who's conviction is that it is redemptive for the soul to experience sadness and suffering as it purges one and makes them 'worthy' to ascend to their true bliss.

This below stolen from Roger's post
http://www.forum.exscn.net/showpost.php?p=552843&postcount=11395
Concentrating on others' wrongness, badness and evil is in itself a form of domination and subjugation of others, for it is an attempt to exert superiority of self over others. It is also a way to make less of or nothing of and thus subjugate others.

In the Spiritual realm of a Being, Domination and Subjugation are the ultimate evil acts.

The concentrating on others' wrongness, badness and evil enables a practitioner to perform domination and subjugation of his or her clients. It further pushes the client out of present time and sticks him or her into the past, which in turn weakens the client's ability to hold a position and resist domination, subjugation and other determined control.

...ok...ok, the powder puff variety of awful...evil... disdaining.... subjugators. :D Terminals of comparable magnitude....ya know. :whistling:

Have you ever done any Tai Chi? I found it to be a wonderful way of opening up one's awareness of this ability to postulate the space just ahead of one and then allowing "reality" to just flow into it. Try it, if you haven't done so before.

Oh, and disregard Mr Nobody.

We can't disregard Mr. Nobody.

My contribution:

other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?

Mr. Nobody is speaking from experience. doesn't anyone wish to make a reply? Mr. Nobody is no one's fool. He is intelligent and literate. don't diss him please.

Thanks Leon, funny that you ask about Tai Chi. I had never done any of it but Candy enjoys it and was trying to find a good Master in her area. She noticed a class on it was being given at my complex and so we both attended that class, taught by an older Korean gentleman who was very fit for his age.
Yes, I would be interested in taking more classes.

As for Mr. Nobody, his name seems to be aptly chosen. I won't say anymore than that.

Oh, by the way, the reason addressing wants is such a power recovery action is the fact that your wants are what underlie your power . . . it is you in pursuit of your wants that is the driving force of your power (or more precisely, you expression of power).

And it is the blunting, dulling or impeding of your wants (or pursuit of them) that gives you the phenomena of blocked power.

Nice exposition, Ted.

I need to spend time with this to fully appreciate and milk its magic juice.

The first thing it struck me as revealing is how automatically we operate on
routine, in place assumptions.

One of the hardest things we have to do, as ACW pointed out, is to observed that "we are doing what we are doing when we are doing it" . . . so much is on automatic for us!

Being able to observe "what we are doing when we are doing it," I have found is a key to one's personal advancement.

Lovely posts there, Hats. Thank you for them. I think I need to open a file for your writings and save them - I learn so much from what you write.

One small point: Don't get stuck on Hubbard's use of the word 'Survive' as being the dynamic impulse of all life. The word Survive is used as a hold-all, as a way of covering all bases. Factually life ebntered/created the universe long before any language was created in order to communicate. One needs to get to the conceptual understanding of the word and one needs it for each thetan who entered the univ. What it basically refers to is what each individual created and presented when entering the game. The gaol was for that creation to be accepted and for it to create an effect of some sort on others - good effects were the norm. Then a game developed of rejecting or ignoring such presentations and so they got asserted etc etc through a zillion inversions and flips and whatevers and all went downhill and here we are today.

'Survival' means to each individual thetan 'the attainment of my own goal'. Or, put another way, 'my postulates must work'.

All rises in tone level, all good havingness, all success, is the result of postulate success. All failures are the result of postulate failure.

There is nothing in this universe except just us thetans and our postulates.
