Re: Hanging on to Previous Life Memories

I would like to move the chat forward, but not be lengthy about it right now. Admittedly, the following rambles a bit:

1) Learning is a continuing process. If you are talking about technology, I can say from experience that being just a few years removed from the electronics industry put me so far behind that I felt I would have to start all over just to get back into it. That was 1976. I got out in 1973, went to work for HP until 1974. From 1974 on I did a complete shift out of the career path I was on and into Scn. After 6 years of Naval training and real experience I went from super-tech to dummy of not even remembering which way current flowed in a circuit.

Our experiences are quite similar. I wrote computer programs in FORTRAN for several aerospace companies from 1962 to late 1971. I was at IBM from 1966 until I quit to join the Sea Org in late 1971. Also, similarly, though I worked in computers for 9 years, today I am not very computer literate - have trouble posting photos on the internet, downloading music, etc.

From my present perspective, the key issue with getting into new things or even moving from one lifetime to another, if that philosophy floats your boat, is a matter or orientation vs. disorientation and the time taken to get back oriented after a disorientation.

MEST is key to orientation since the physical universe is where we have placed our attention. It is the meeting place and playing field for many beings. A loss of MEST is disorienting. Again, this loss is referring to one's life possessions and contacts as well as a between lives experience.

I believe this to be true as well. LRH talked about this at length in one of his early tapes. It seems that when one returns to the neighborhood where he grew up or a city where he believes he lived a past life, he starts to reorient almost immediately.

2) In my experience, I have retained little except myself in making the transition. I seem to recall that there are Bible references to the affect that a being doesn't get into Heaven carrying baggage. I suspect that the last thing to go is Free Will. I can't say for certain as I have refused to give up mine. :coolwink: But I have been to the point where I have freely given up about all else.

I have the perception that data bits of life knowledge get lost rather easily. The LRH pontification about beings fixing star ship engines, holding various posts, and different stuff "because they have done it before" is a bunch of hooey. If a being can orient to the task at hand a lot can be accomplished fast, but there comes a point where he will still have to RTFM (Read The F'ing Manual).

You make a great point with your "a bunch of hooey" comment!" Today's Sea Org still enforces this erroneous principle. Do you see droves of non hatted S.O. members miraculously doing jobs remembered from a past life? No, you instead see droves of people on the RPF being blamed for not being able to do something they were never trained for.

Close to me would be goals, purposes, objectives, family, special friends, mentors... That's about it. An awareness of these I carry with me when the physical universe has shrunk to less than an iota. All else drops away. Ya. Been there, done that with certainty. It's just a different orientation.

I spent several years hammering away on an electric guitar before I went into the Navy. I got out of boot camp, went home on leave, and couldn't remember a damn thing about it. Had some knowledge but the muscle memory was gone. Such was the reorientation of 9 weeks with Uncle Sam's people.

My opinion, and that's pretty much all I write about, is that the Grades have been so popular because they deal with social skills and experience. This is what a being needs to bone up on when they return. If you forget why you came back through the disorientation-reorientation experience, then you might need a refresher on goals and purposes, too.

3) Do we really have to relearn everything all over again? No. But you do have to RTFM once you arrive. The technologies have moved forward since you were gone. And you have to orient to the new cultures and contacts that you now face. If you can do that fast and on the fly it will appear to the bystanders that you are one special dude (or dudette). Heck, you might even start a new religion if that suits your goals and purposes. :dieslaughing:

Thanks a lot, Ted. This post is really appreciated as is Roger's post and Leon's post. I would like to respond to each of these 3 excellent posts individually. Some of my comments are above in red.

On those skills which require motor skills, muscle memory seems to be an important factor. It usually precludes success in doing something such as playing the guitar. Also, thanks for mentioning the Grades as something which can rehabilitate skills once possessed and which are needed for success in life.

I have heard it said that when a person first dies, they have full memory and awareness of the life just concluded. The lack of MEST, especially the body's MEST must cause a major change as far as a being becoming disoriented. Not only that but the person has also lost their family, pets, house, clothing, art works, books, etc. Even if a spirit is in good shape, it is hard to conceive that major disorientation will not take place.

Your comments on the changing nature of society are also very pertinent.

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

Nice post, Ted

One thing on this point Lakey has raised that we need to bear in mind, and that is, this lifetime we are living is likely like nothing we experienced or lived before.

I say this in the context of how we entered this lifetime as compared to how we'll likely exit it and enter the next one.

Just based on our $cn experience and and its lessons, we'll make that transition quite differently than we have done before . . . add to that all of the wisdoms we have been exposed to due to the educational and experiential facilities our civilization has made available to us in the last 100 years, and we'll also make the transition differently than in the past.

Thus, I say, I wouldn't stick with the notion that how it was or has been will be how it will be:biggrin:

In an earlier post on ESMB, on the thread to do with Ascensions if I remember correctly, I wrote of how, in 1963, I went through a death sequence and on to selecting my next body/family for my human existence.

What I was able to do in that event was directly the result of lessons learned in this lifetime . . . it was an event and series of actions I performed that were not as they had been in any of my former lifetimes of death sequences.

What I did was purely based on my experiential certainty that I am a spiritual Being who is immortal and who has power of choice. At this point I will also state that what I did when "out" was quite different in the context of awareness and capacity to act than what I was aware of or apparently capable of when "in."

It appears that when/because I was out and thus "desperately" moved to exercise my volition, powers and abilities, I did and achieved things that heretofore had been unfamiliar to me though known they should be possible. And it appears it was this knowledge of the possible or of what should be that enabled me to move to implement them.

In any event, on that occasion, I continued to operate with full awareness not only of self but of my acquired knowledge, memories, lifetime skills and abilities . . . all was intact and available to me.

I do have some decent recall of some past lives, though not necessarily of the knowledge or precise skills learned therein . . . example: I'd have to re-learn celestial navigation, though I expect it might come back very easily.

One thing I do know is that I have retained connection to my loved ones and primary influencers down through time, and I have routinely reconnected with them as appropriate where possible in successive lives.

So, I write the above to point out that "this time" will be different to the "times before" . . . that is, for those folks interested in these things and willing to learn and know about them . . . the others will simply soldier on in their oblivious way

Ted does make the very key point that your passage will very much be determined by your basic dreams, aspirations, goals and purposes :yes:

Soooo, a good plan will be for you each to know and appreciate with some degree of good certainty what yours are :coolwink:

But, hopefully, dear friends, this will not be an experience we'll have to deal with any time too soon . . . . I personally think I've got a good many years left with this rig to go yet. And I suspect that is the case for you other guys who're still young at heart and full of goodness toward your fellows. (But I do recommend staying away from bad medicine!)

Thanks for replying Roger! Your first comment about this life being different due to our experience with Scientology is very true to me as well. I know that I learned more in this life than any other life here on Earth. I have to give Hubbard the credit for that. Despite all the negatives and faults we discuss relating to Hubbard, for some of us he provided the tools to change the direction in which we were headed. I am one such person. I was going nowhere before encountering Hubbard. There was nothing in society which could have salvaged me other than Scientology.

All that I really needed to clean up my act as a human being was given on the first 2 course, HAS (The Communications Course) and HQS, a course which taught the rudimentary principles of Scn. After doing those courses, I still had my "case" or collection of aberrations but I got enough from those two course to be able to succeed at a job, find a girlfriend, get married, start a family and be successful as a human being.

The biggest gains were learning and drilling the communications formula, learning about as-ising things by duplicating and making a perfect copy, and how to do Touch Assists.

BTW, I well remember reading the story you wrote about your out of body experience described when you were writing about Ascensions. It was a magnificent story and was very inspiring!

What you and Ted both say about the part one's dreams, aspirations and goals play in what recall one will experience when he/she returns is very helpful.

My attention is on two skills which I would like to hang onto. One has to do with composing music. I was pretty good at it in the 18th century and have no ability to speak of now. I would like to recapture that skill. Also, there is the matter of relationships with women. In this life, I was born knowing nothing and eventually picked up some knowledge on the subject. The knowledge I learned was paid for dearly, often learning either by being rejected or faliling to be bold, promote myself and act agressively. I want to carry forward the knowledge I learned without having to reset back at square one.

I wish you and all of us who are getting on in years, a very lengthy and healthy remainder of lfe. It seems to me that more has been discovered in recent decades about the steps one needs to take to insure a long and healthy life then in past eras.

You and I are within 3 years in age and I remember that when I was growing up in the 50's and 60's, the age of 60 was considered old and 65 was very old. By 70, most people were bent over and walking with a cane. Society's sciences have moved everything down by 15 to 20 years. Some people at 60 are still in their "middle aged" period and have fully active and vital bodies. As they say, 60 is now the new 50.

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

ja. The link between memory and spatial orientation is an interesting one though. I remember years ago I was on a ship in Casablanca and went down the ganplank, looked back at the ship and for a moment saw a flash of a destroyer I'df served on 25 years before . We were then moored at exactly the same berth we were in previously. Some time later in Gibraltar - the place was so very familiar to me, deja vu all over the place, all triggered by being back in a location I had been in previously.

One way I have used this often is, when I lose something or just can't find it, I go and position myself in a location where I last did know where the missing object was. It usually works.

By using mest anchor points for our spatial perception we assign the memory to that space. This is weher spacation drills would help a lot in getting the guy to create his own space instead of having mest provide it for him. The old process of Spotting Spots in Space is a good one here too as one insists the preclear does not use mest points in space but gets him to create his own.

I think this is the reason why past languages are not remembered so well. A baby seems to grasp meanings far easier than spoken sounds - they're noticeably almost telepathic at times - I reckon the language is held in the mest space where he lived before while the concepts go with the fella himself. This is why past lilfe word clearing always seems to revert to English even though the english language never exised at the earlier time. It's the concept he never grasped at the earlier time and which he now attaches to a contemporary word.

Great comments Leon about remembering languages. Going back to a space from a past life often turns on a lot of deja vu sensations. I know that I get goose bumps when I hear the name Karlsbad mentioned or discussed. It is a city in the Czech Republic noted for its famous theraputic water and its baths. It's in the part of the Czech Republic where German was once the spoken language.

About 12 years ago, I found it on a map and it is now called "Karlovy Vary". When I saw that name, chills ran down my spine. I guess Karlovy is the Czech language version of Karl's and Vary must mean bath. Karls Bath would be its English name. Karlsbad comes up in Mozart literature since his wife took treatments there and Mozart passed through there on his trips to Prague. In Beethoven's life, he scheduled a rendevouz there with his unknown "dearly beloved" in 1816.

A WAY TO REMEMBER FOREIGN LANGUAGES
A female dancer and singer I met in a bar in Germany when I was there as a 27 year old seemed to be from the American South since she spoke and sang in perfect English but with a country type Southern drawl. I asked her if she was from North Carolina or Tennessee and she replied that she was German. She learned English by singing popular songs and she had no accent.

On her advice, I bought large numbers of German songs when I returned home. I played them over and over and learned all the words by heart plus read the translations of what the words meant. This technique is helpful in increasing ones skill in a foreign language and also can almost totally eliminate one's foreign accent.
The strange thing is that now, 45 years later, I still know all the songs by heart, several dozen of them!

[A person's collected aberrations can be sorted out with the communication formula. Too much of one thing, not enough of another leads to poor communication or mis-communication. I am still working on my Expanded Grade 0, and I have no expectations for that excepting my own high standards for myself.]

The biggest gains were learning and drilling the communications formula [Then apply it to the areas of life that you would like to improve.] , learning about as-ising things by duplicating and making a perfect copy, and how to do Touch Assists.

[I suspect that if any of us were born knowing something beyond the broadest general concepts, like purpose or mission,--not even expressed in words yet--that we would never be born. What you see as a disadvantage I am seeing as a clean-slate sort of opportunity.] The knowledge I learned was paid for dearly, often learning either by being rejected or faliling to be bold, promote myself and act agressively. I want to carry forward the knowledge I learned without having to reset back at square one. That's fine, but what if you were a master at the keyboards in 1786, waking up in 2011 having to master keyboards with synth, computer connections, etc. Sorry Lakey, but you are going to have to roll with the flow or be stuck in 1786 or thereabouts.]

But for now . . . . Lakey, I'm sure you still "compose"-- I do . . . . but I've forgotten how to write music in the way it's done here :duh:

In fact I love to compose. I'm always trotting out new and wonderful stuff about the house . . . it's all in humming or whistling form though . . . what I need is some sort of clever partner who can write it down for others to read and play:yes:

Thanks Ted for your lengthy reply and sharing your knowledge with us as well as the tips you meant for me!!

On the topic of communication, I had already figured out some of the areas which you covered. A week or so back, we covered the gain which could be obtained from listening, duplicating and acknowledging. Perhaps this is all that is needed to help others handle their aberrations. Also, sometimes, if you need a helping hand yourself, you can obtain a result by having a friend do the same procedure on you.

I did not connect the dots on the music composition topic, i.e. that music is communication. I have a tremendous musical memory and recognize the melodies of others instantly but it is the creativity of coming up with new melodies and rhytms of my own where I seem to be lacking. Your point that music is communication and that this difficulty can be handled through communication makes sense.

On the women thing, I watched the video and enjoyed it. At this time, in my early 70's, I seem to be applying what the video says without fulling realizing it. I have 5 lady friends now count me among their very best friends and tell me they love me. Even though they are all Platonic friends, this is a huge win!

One of these 5 is my ex wife. We are really close now that we have divorced. I am going over there for Thanksgiving with her and my kids. With all of these women, I am a good listener and acknowledge. On some I give accupressure massages and on all I go out of my way to act as a sounding board for them and do favors for them.

The area that bothers me when it comes to women and romance is my teenage years and my early 20's. I did not really start getting my own dates until I was 22. Starting at 17, others began "fixing me up". I was very ackward and nervous, a real nerd. Through junior high and high school, I saw other guys having the most beautiful young women fawn all over them, just instinctively knowing what to do. My looks were not that bad, maybe a 7 or 7.5 but I was in the fear band when it came to girls. It was very painful to suffer this condition from ages 16 to 22. In my next go around, I don't want it to happen again.

if you can fully describe and own that youthful personality, then you can creatively process other scenarios that you could have done to win at the game. I find this very helpful

i.e. putting a more causative version of myself into old scenarios.

Thanks, Carmelo, this sounds very interesting and it might be fun to do it and see what benefits might arise. I can fully describe that youthful personality, no problem there. To own it does not seem impossible either. I'll give it a try and write a post describing how it went.

You know, my friend E. C. who was such a big part of my life in the second half of 2010 is a hynotherapist and I reluctantly allowed her to give me a free "session". I was doing massages on her and runing out entities for her (a practice which I quit doing about 8 months ago) and she insisted on giving me some exchange. That is the sole reason, I let her run the hypnotherapy session on me.

Her hypnotherapy has some things in common with the creative processing which you mention. Let's say that you eat too much. She attempts to put you in a hypnotic state and go back to the first time you were aware of eating too much. You then replace that scene with the new desired scene where you don't want too eat too much and then you are supposed to move back up to present time, looking for all scenes where you ate too much and replace each of them with the new desired scene.

This procedure has a kernel of a good idea in it, but much is missing. E.C. had lots of TLC and a good "bedside manner" and really wants her clients to succeed but her comm cycle is not good, there is no duplication taking place, no acknowledments and no as-ising. One is supposed to be processing his subconscious mind and installing something good in it in place of something which is not working for you.

I've seen worse therapies than this but IMO the stuff which we discuss on this thread is light years ahead of her approach.

Thanks for commenting, Roger and have fun with your course. Hopefully, you'll give a breif recap of what you learned.

You really hit the nail on the head with the comments about still composing but not being able to write it down. If wanted to state 2 short anecdotes:

#1 - About June, 2010 I was in the jacuzzi at my former residence and a beautiful melody came to mind. I hummed it and sang it in syllables and developed it quite well. It was a 1780's-1790's type of slow movement in Mozart's style but I knew it was not by Mozart. I formed the idea that I had composed it myself. Around June of this year, I was driving in my car and turned on the classical station and they were playing this exact melody.

At the end of the piece, they announced it was the slow movement from Beethoven's 1st piano concerto. written about 1792. I really flipped out. The young Beethoven's earlier works are usually in the style of Mozart and Haydn. I had heard this piece before, maybe 10 times in my life and I think that in the 60's and 70's I owned a record which contained it. Still, it had been at least 10 or 15 years since I had last heard it. It was really weird, I forgot I knew the piece and thought I was developing the melody myself when all the while, the melody was stored somewhere in my mind!

The second anecdote has to do with a dream I had in 1973 when I was in the Sea Org. I heard a full symphony, 3 movements, of some of the most delightful 18th century music I had ever heard, fully equal to the best symphonies of Haydn and Mozart. The dream also had the visual component of an orchestra playing.

I realized that I was dreaming and struggled to remember the melodies I was hearing. I woke up about 6:30 AM and the music was still pretty fresh in my mind. I tried to write down a few bars of the music, drawing some lines to represent music paper. I started to hum a couple of the melodies over and over, trying to engrain them into my mind. When I went on my post around 9:00AM, some of the melodies were still in my mind but they were fading. After doing my post until noon, I tried to bring the music back to mind at lunch but it was gone and I have never heard it since.

This experience revealed two points. #1 - I did not create this music myself. It was a finished and polished piece composed by one of the great masters. Somehow, during a dream, the entire symphony played out clear as a bell, in my mind. Nothing like that has happened before that time nor since then. #2 - Data from dreams is very hard to remember. It tends to slip away almost immediately after one wakes up.

The great Austrian composer, Franz Schubert related an anecdote which fits in here. He was near sighted and wore glasses. He stated that much of his greatest inspiration came to him at night in his dreams. For that reason, he left a candle burning on a table near his bed all night long and also left his glasses, lined music paper, a pen and ink on that table. He stated that many were the nights when he awoke from a dream, hearing inspired music; he quickly put on his glasses and wrote out the music from his dream onto the music paper.

Now this man was a musical genius and a professional composer so he had the mechanics available to write out that which played in his mind during a dream. Being able to write music down and not just hum or whistle it is certainly a requirement of being a composer!!

In Beethoven's life, he scheduled a rendevouz there with his unknown "dearly beloved" in 1816

For some people it is not the location or the space that rekindles and brings back the memory. It is running into the exact same person from the past. The correct incidentals will come back up from being exposed to the being's wavelength or whatever. There are a lot of things we are not supposed to remember or past areas we might have all taken an oath NOT to recall. Like times just before going into universes or bodies etc. We close out one cycle so the new one can have it's own integrity. The bummer is that there are, I believe, machinery installed in the mind just in case we break those oaths and change our minds.

How many of us have seen families where you just KNEW this was a karmic cluster travelling arouond the time line. One can feel the suppressions and issues between the members which are private scripts long standing. And there is no way that each being creating his own space and putting out his own anchors isn't triggering others to stay within the agreed network of dramatizations.. Of course many leave the family unit ASAP as the whole deal seems like an out list from the get go.

For me its often pictures from a magazine or images on the TV that cause a reviv for me and knock me back somewhere in time. The whole scenario with the pre setup history and personal emotions comes into my awareness. There have been some rough times when running into an individual acted as direct contact with a previous set of anchor points. We are universes unto ourselves putting out points in space....and we absorb pieces of each other through overwhelmings I guess.

I've had some memories turn on this way which I probably would never have recalled normally as they would have been deliberately obscured from the human mind and would not have made it past the filters. And if they had've I would not have understood what I was viewing. But because the person who was a past antagonist was now right there in front of me the series of carnages would begin to surface and free roll in my mind. I guess from the perspective that everything that ever happened is really still in present time (the only time) and that we postulate time and space to put distance between these things, it could make sense. The jogging of buried memory when running into another when known before this life.

I had memories come up that were not human. They could not be processed from a person centered perspective even. I even got terrible somatics turn on having to do with other human types mincing genetic species between 13000 and 6000 yrs ago. The memories were about people who looked so much like 'us' while operating on the planet that you would not know they were alien agents without scrutiny. (and not much has changed today) Only the emotions coming up and the fear would tweak your recall.

I had tried to write a clearer post than this but I lost it while writing it 2 days ago. I decided to contribute the gist of it anyhow. Then, yesterday a serendipitous thing happened. I found this clip describing what surfaced when being exposed to the same beings I'd known long ago around the Aegean. Leon's comments about Casablanca prompted me to reply to the above posts .

By all means!! Everything above makes sense!

The first Star Wars movie, seen in 1977, caused a few revivs for me! Isn't it possible to absorb pieces of each other through love and permeating as well?

I viewed the portion of the tape you suggested. The discussions of the Vedic Hymns were intruiging. Hanging around with a lot of metaphysical people last year, most of them believe that they have known their current friends in the past, often stating they were married to them. I felt this was being said too often.

Very interesting viewpoint stated on "everything that has ever happened is extant in present time (the only time) and we postulate time and space to put distance between ourselves and the past". I believe your comment, "It could make sense." is a little mild. When one really looks at this proposition, one is tempted to say, "How could it be otherwise."

Just looking at old mental pictures which are embarrasing in nature illustrates this. Let's say I forgot to zip my fly and got up and gave a speech to a panel of business men 40 years ago or maybe I walked into the womens' restroom instead of the mens' 30 years ago and saw something I shouldn't have seen; in both cases I would be flustered, nervous and embarrassed and would dread runing into the other people involved in the events. Now, decades later, when nobody remembers the incidents and I no longer am in contact with any of the other people involved, when I think about one of these incidents, I still feel the same exact flustered, nervous and embarrassed emotions - still with the same intensity as when they first occurred!

Why would this still be the case? Only if a being considers that everything that ever happened in the past is still existing in present time would this phenomena reveal itself. Probably, a powerful therapy could be developed which emphasizes viewing all incidents as if they were in present time.

Maybe this is something that might perk your interest. I know of some LRH lectures where he went down this path. They're really interesting and memorable for me.
". . . there is no such thing as a mental image picture."

. . .

"So we do have one improper word in Scientology and that is facsimile. I don't know what we'd call it -- call it a thinnie, I guess.

All it is necessary to do is to bring one into a state of mind himself whereby he is willing to confront those pictures--thinnies, old universes, old places where he wouldn't be before. All we've got to do is put him up into a state of mind, either by confronting them or by some other artificial means whereby he's willing to confront them, and we have a Clear. Boom!"

5707C15 Theory and Definition of Auditing (last minutes of tape)
and this one too: 5708c01 Thinnies (the whole tape)

Both are in 18th ACC (Illusion or Truth cassettes). I remember the first tape was on the older Class 4 and 6 checksheets. The second lecture is a really interesting slant on what auditing might actually be and how it works.

Generally, he speaks about how every moment that has ever happened still exists as it was and has just grown "thin." We, ourselves, "thin" the moments by our unwillingness to look at them. But they're all still sitting there, just thinner. And we plaster and leave our viewpoints as we go. Auditing is reclaiming those viewpoints, in a sense.

The lectures go into a lot more detail about all this. Worth as visit if you're interested in this line of theory.

The six positions process was developed to do this I believe.. I saw the great video of Phil Spickler explaining it's genus. That's getting the incident and putting it above you, putting it below you, to the left, to the .....etc.

What I found interesting in the video I posted was that Farrell says that ancient texts all point to the same ideas ancient man accepted about his history. That is that there were gods, sub gods, agents of gods, and agents of other gods competing over humanity for their purposes. Present day society looks at the scenario of man below and God above. We're missing the middle spectrum that seems to have been played out on the stage. I think that all out war occurred to protect us from being made into 'things'. Property contained within a unified field that someone else was claiming. The idea that we are sovereign in our own right and have our own free will and decide our own futures seems so natural. But looking at the texts and glyphs from thousands of years ago one gets the distinct idea that man's right to his own self determinsm might have been at stake in a superbowl or two.

FoTi you have ESP!!!!

I cannot believe you posted that!

I just came out of the bathroom at my apartment.... thought I must be paranoid to always check for spiders. I have a horrific fear of those giant wolf spiders. I ALWAYS lift up the seat to check. ALWAYS. There was one of these monsters on the inside of the bathroom door last month. Then I woke up later and there was one hanging upside down on the blade of the ceiling fan. Earlier than this I found on under the purse I had laying on the floor for a month. I went out and bought the spider spray. The ant and roach killer won't work on the nervous system of these big guys. And they are so heavy in the middle that they often can be heard to fall with a thud from ceiling or while climbing a wall because they are so meaty. Now your video has me all creeped out again. I'm always checking my walls in this house. Never open a cupboard unnecessarily.

Florida here on the lake under all these trees we have all kinds of spiders. I spent a few weeks sealing everything. Caulking everything. Putting plastic over the windows. Putting door sweeps on the bottom of doors. Putting seal around the door cracks. Great Stuff around the pipes.....It has been three weeks since my last catch. Phew :nervous:
