Time to say goodbye

I think that Dulloldfart said it best on The Underground Bunker when he was talking about what he will remember most about ESMB “ …the real-time bantering between the only people on Earth who could truly understand the exy reality.”
I pretty much pinched that from Scooter who had posted it a day or so earlier. I didn't think too much about what I was writing -- I thought Tony was pasting the same request to a score of regulars and so just rattled something off to get rid of him. I had earlier sent him something much more generic but he came back and wanted more. I was surprised when he asked permission to publish it.

Has anyone noticed that the countdown clock is 1 minute slow? I’m finding it very annoying. It’s not like I can wind it forward either.

Hi, Newbie here, long time lurker.

1. Is there really no one among so many individuals on this forum who can continue to run this board?!

2. Where do you guys go when this shuts down, is there another good place? I will really miss the information, good and bad, one gets on this forum about Scientologi development.

Hi newbie. Good question.

I have tried numerous times to get someone else to run this board. The old timers here will know all the twists and turns it’s taken over the years. It doesn’t matter who takes it or how long they take it, it always comes back to me like a bad penny.

I’ve asked numerous ESMBers over the years but no one was willing. Either too busy or wanting to remain UTR or not technically savvy. I’ve asked non ESMBers in the wider community but no luck. It needs to be someone I trust 100% or it won’t work so the pool is small. After I announced it was closing I got no offers to take it over. I did get one person who wanted to take the baton and run with it, on their own board.

So why not just hand ESMB over to them?

1. What is the guarantee that in 6 months time it won’t come back to me AGAIN? It’s really not easy to do this and you find out real quick.

2. Trust. If I archive ESMB I know that no one can mess with it ever. If I hand it over I lose control and all the content could be wiped.

3. Market forces. If the demand is there, a supplier will appear. If the demand isn’t high enough, no supplier will appear. If the demand isn’t high enough why should I keep doing this for the entertainment of a few dozen people? The market always wins.

4. I want to close it on my own terms. I refuse to feel any more obligation to anyone. I think I’ve done my penance to the world now. I want to leave.

Hi Newbie.

I sure wouldn't do it.

IMO, as the Board is open to discussion by anyone at any stage of Scientology, in, out, partially in or out, never in, etc., conflicts are built into it. Trolling, insults, ad homs, etc. are difficult to monitor and make it a tough job.

What I want to know though is who hacked his account."

Come on - he's an attention hound - How many thousands and thousands of posts as he made here? He's still having a hissy fit? And he's going to ser fac us? His loving admirers? As-if. Sulking? Ppppp. Seriously - he's still being petulant?

Hey - if you are the real HH - I have something to tell you:

He rated your post WTF. Do you think he would do that if he thought you were right?

Alright grammar nazi, it CAN be spelled either way. So there!
Yes, a swift click over to google confirms that you are correct and I am in error. It describes the word as 'A mild swear word in the United Kingdom'. That's not what my mother thought when I used the tem as a nine-year-old. She was practically apoplectic! :coolwink:

Ok, a real dilemma, Emma. He.

What about my question #2, any thoughts? That other board you mentioned - maybe.

Freethinker: He rated your post WTF. Do you think he would do that if he thought you were right?
Well, I didn't realize he had rated my post until much later - I didn't know what you were referring to when I wrote my follow up post to yours. I searched earlier for any post and couldn't find anything. I was equally WTF?
Secondly, I never recalled him posting in Tony's comment section previously, so it seemed incongruous.
Thirdly, I didn't recall him having an exclamation mark in is avatar, which made me suspect.

So, a few moments ago, I looked at some of his old posts and it was there.

To me, it's really odd that he would hold a grudge this long, given the circumstances.

In this quote:
“Hey, ITYIWT, I send greetings and love to all my good friends at ESMB and enjoy reading the many smart, funny, informative and brilliant posts of so many whom I admire there. I already mentioned to you that I did not rage-quit because of one word of one of my posts being censored, LOL. I didn’t say more then or now because [bcolor=#ffff00]I love my friends there and don’t want the board to become about me or any grandstanding crusades.[/bcolor] And I certainly don’t expect that just because I don’t post on one website I won’t see them and enjoy my friends’ wonderful company again in other places on the vast internet. So, as always, I loved being part of it all and cherish the great people I was fortunate to meet there. I didn’t go nowhere, no-how. I remain “on this planet” (LOL) Love, hh.”

I don't agree with him - his posting a few final posts would not be grandstanding, nor is it all about him. (It's all about Alanzo ;))

He is just one of many who post here, he may be a bigger fish than some, but for me to take him seriously, that that he thinks this board is all about him is a laugh. Yes, I poked fun at his egotistic pique of not wanting to post here, even posting his favorite "fraud" Rupert Sheldrake, but still he choses to hide behind his ser fac, as posted above.

If that's the way he wants to be rembered, when ESMB becomes chaff in the wind, fine by me. But, despite our past animosity, I would prefer him to post in these final days like the rest of us. This is an odd celebratory / sad occasion where I want Michelle to have happiness in her life, where I hate to see my friends depart, but understand, things can't remain static forever.

Michelle / Emma said previously that the reach for ESMB has been on the decline, and:
"3. Market forces. If the demand is there, a supplier will appear. If the demand isn’t high enough, no supplier will appear. If the demand isn’t high enough why should I keep doing this for the entertainment of a few dozen people? The market always wins."

I used to believe that, until I talked to an actual marketer, I think on a ski lift when we were chatting about business - and he pointed that was exactly opposite of reality - that you create a demand for your product, with which you will fill the void you created. You see it on every hand - some new must have dingus, you look at something casually online, and a million popup adds abound on your browser.

Every time Marty does something crazy, or Miscavage shoots his bloody stump of a foot, ESMB becomes a darling. I can't expect Michelle to hire Dog the Bounty Hunter to rescue Shelly Miscavage to keep the stats up trending.

Nor should she be like Ford, and re-release a new version of the mustang when the stats cool off.

The reality is much as she says - if she doesn't create a need for ESMB, and it only caters to a few friends, and is no longer a vital part of the crusade against Scientology, which is on the wane anyway and the political forum was devisive, why bother?

So yes, if HH doesn't deem it worthy to post here as the candle flickers down, I am saddened by his choice, but as I have always believed, it is his to make.

HelluvaHoax is was the Number 1 <deleted> on ESMB.

The amount of time he spent being as vicious as he could possibly be in the posts he wrote to someone - simply because he disagreed with them - was astounding. He took up no one's issues at all. He NEVER stayed on the subject. He simply vilified and degraded and ridiculed people for their views.

I have been criticized for using ad hom every once in a while - but that <deleted> is the most Adhom Adhomer I have ever seen on the Internet.

Way to go, Mimsey, for surviving his relentless abuse of you.
