Marty Rathbun raises his head, and starts squawking PART 2

I can possibly sum it all up for you.

The quote explores the nuanced distinctions between comedy, irony, pathos and other human contradictions, whether such exist by reason of happenstance or whether the person has, at some level, created the situation due to poor character or decision-making.

However none of these actually apply to the situation in which Rathbun finds himself.

Rathbun belongs to an entirely different category. Hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy so severe that profound betrayal, treachery and destruction is caused to innocent victims. Which is why efforts to describe it typically glide right past "hypocrisy" and eventually arrive at its rightful descriptive--sociopathic.

But, nice nice try, Marty. At least you made the effort to re-cloak yourself in some type of Noble-yet flawed- Philosophical-Warrior re-branding.

The part I really like about Rathbun's moronic approach to his video "briefings" is that they not only fail to answer the vital and fundamental question about WTF he's trying to do---they purposely intend to do the opposite of bringing clarity. They intentionally obfuscate and defeat any earnest effort to understand him by burying his presentation in blinking, stammering, fumbling, lying, non-sequitur, rhetorically incoherent, double-talking gibberish.

I'm tired of [HIGHLIGHT]Rathbun's "black ops" and his fair game tricks & deceptions. He is doing now what he always did as a Scientology goon. Bringing great misery to the innocent in order that the wicked may profit.[/HIGHLIGHT]

There are quite a few words with more than six letters in them. Um, I'll do my best to cope...

I got stuck on this paragraph (which thankfully isn't too long :wink2:):

"Hypocrisy so severe that profound betrayal, treachery and destruction is caused to innocent victims. Which is why efforts to describe it typically glide right past "hypocrisy" and eventually arrive at its rightful descriptive--sociopathic."

You describe the entirety of scientology and all that it generates. Betrayal, treachery and destruction which induces strong narcissistic tendencies and it's close cousin, sociopathic behaviour. It's way more than high-end hypocrisy which perhaps has a hint of ignorance contained within it. Ignorance can possibly/potentially be reformed. Scientology cannot be. And Marty is "all scientology". He is a living walking perfect example of how keeping scientology working works. The walking dead, with fake smiles, that inflict dark nights into the sunniest of days.

I see Marty as a "Hubbard wannabe". Superior to all others but ultimately lost in his own dark madness. Prepared to rip the light and love from everything and everyone that gets in his pathway.

Yes and yes it is sad. These patterns are easy to see once you get your head around the depth of what Hubbard really was. The big picture stuff, not sucking into the details too much. You cannot spend time with a raging sociopath (or narcissist) without getting some of that dirt on your own hands.

Sit in any Women's Refuse class and you will hear shit like "OMG I have become like him!" It is horrifying stuff to see and to admit (to self). Let's be frank here, abuse is abuse no matter what shades/cult packages it comes in.

Hubbard was an abuser. He wrote a lot of stuff about how to gain the power and control over others. As unpopular as this may be to some that still "believe that some of the lower stuff and some of the auditing was helpful" it was all about gaining power and control over others. That is never healthy (at best) and leads to very disturbing behaviours.

Hubbard (like all abusers) was going for power and control over others to avoid his own shitty darkness. Maybe he was born without an inch of empathy, I don't know. His training methods from day one (Div 6) were all about undermining the individuals sense of self and replacing it with the "scientology way". And that way is a pure reflection of the inner crap that Hubbard carried. So you end up with a bunch of fake Hubbard-like individuals. Marty is an excellent example. As is David, the man I was married to. Their eyes are empty. Their words regurgitation of Hubbard's. Their thoughts and behaviour, mirroring Hubbard. Nicely trained into the Hubbard system, they are lost.

I think that is very smart, and indeed brilliant, from the standpoint of Marty and the Church of Scientology. Well played. No, I am not being the least bit sarcastic.

With this word salad, consisting of a long quote from someone hailed as "the theologian of the century" and "America's theologian," Marty is expressing contrition. He's saying that he's sorry for his past criticisms of Hubbard, Miscavige, and Scientology.

Hear me out.

It is part of the Church of Scientology allying itself with religions, churches and people of faith generally, which has been going on for a very long time but has accelerated recently. (See my numerous posts re: the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office signing onto various letters concerning religious and civil rights worldwide.) The Reinhold Neibuhr quote is Marty's and Scientology's way of signaling to other religions, churches and people of faith that while atheists, agnostics and critics of religion and spirituality are coming for Scientology now, they will be coming for them later.

Niebuhr is "beloved" by the left leaning political and corporate Establishment. Even though he was active during the middle of the last century, he's still trendy for reference and quotation purposes. For example, Barack Obama - seeking to be intellectually fashionable - is said to be very fond of his writings.

There are many religious people who do not much care for Niebuhr, but he, and his writings, are a kind of safe middle ground.

As I've repeatedly warned (to deaf ears), critics of Scientology who are also proselytizing atheists and who are, in fact, hostile to all religion and spirituality insist on falling into this trap.

That's a topic that has attracted my attention also, but these proselytizing atheists are not so numerous amongst ex cultists as you seem to think.

(For example, I had to stop inviting Christians here regarding areas of mutual concern because I tired of seeing them get bashed.)

Bashing? Sounds terrible. Could you provide a link to that? Was it a mass/mob bashing? Did everyone join in?

As a result, they provide evidence in support of the argument by Marty and the Church of Scientology, and help them find allies with Christian and other churches, religions and people of faith.

There are plenty of non atheists, non materialists, spiritually interested people who are ex-Scientologists and critics of Scientology.

Marty, and his masters whose directions he's following, are simply being manipulative again.

So what else is new?

Why?
The following words written by Reinhold Niebuhr in 1952 sum it up neatly:
Irony consists of apparently fortuitous incongruities in life which are discovered, upon closer examination, to be not merely fortuitous. Incongruity as such is merely comic. It elicits laughter. This element of comedy is never completely eliminated from irony. But irony is something more than comedy. A comic situation is proved to be an ironic one if a hidden relation is discovered in the incongruity. If virtue becomes vice through some hidden defect in the virtue; if strength becomes weakness because of the vanity to which strength may prompt the mighty man or nation; if security is transmuted into insecurity because too much reliance is placed upon it; if wisdom becomes folly because it does not know its own limits – in all such cases the situation is ironic. The ironic situation is distinguished from a pathetic one by the fact that the person involved in it bears some responsibility for it. It is differentiated from tragedy by the fact that the responsibility is related to an unconscious weakness rather than to a conscious resolution. While a pathetic or a tragic situation is not dissolved when a person becomes conscious of his involvement in it, an ironic situation must dissolve, if men or nations are made aware of their complicity in it. Such awareness involves some realization of the hidden vanity or pretension by which comedy is turned into irony. This realization either must lead to an abatement of the pretension, which means contrition; or it leads to a desperate accentuation of the vanities to the point where irony turns into pure evil.

It looks like Mr. Rathbun is using an overly verbose quote to explain why he's been posting these videos. Makes about as much sense as mud, which is par for the course.

It's what he is calling the "attacks" on scientology. They have become personal attacks on scientologists, well one scientologist anyway. It's all about him. He sees it, everyone else is caught in it.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

There were a number of options he could have used to register his beliefs, but he deliberately chose the path of most damage and betrayal.

Try to make them feel they somehow misunderstood because they are inferior and not in the know. Every trick will be used to use normal human empathy to make him appear the bigger, better person.

My usual response to someone like Marty who uses those techniques, or attempts to use them, is, "Don't snow the snowman". In other words, your amateur attempts at throwing FUD around ain't working pal, and it only makes you look inept and silly.

Now go play in another sandbox, buddy.

I was quite surprised to just now discover there is a parallel invocation in The Scientologist's Daily Book of Prayer:

God, grant me the cash flow to pay the bridge loans I cannot afford,
Courage to further increase my charge cards' credit limits,
And knowingness to obscure the difference between bankruptcy and stops[SUP]1[/SUP].

Under the guise of stamping out religious bigotry, hatred and discrimination, Scientology is uniting all religions. Right, it's probably one of their more successful "religious angles."

Scientology thrived under secrecy, while using a wide variety of ploys to entice and trap people. A lot of these ploys are failing because of the voluminous information on the Internet. For example, convincing people that the only way to understand what Scientology is about is for a person to do it themselves, read Hubbard books, take courses, do Scientology and embrace it. That's no longer working. People want to read about the experience of others, even listen to people talk about what they believe. Choosing to dive into Scientology would be like buying a product on Amazon without looking at the reviews and ratings.

So as their old ploys fail, the stress test, the allure of advanced tech like the e-meter, the personality test, the mystique of Dianutty (what the hell does it mean?), naturally, they are going to put their efforts into things which can work for them, like uniting with other struggling religions or sects, which also may be feeling the effects of the Internet. In effect, other religions are in the same boat. It's one thing Scientology legitimately has in common with other fringe religions and sects, and even some of the major religions.

I don't think it is important, necessarily, to react to that. Better to keep on exposing the bait and switch, brainwashing and abuses. If you do want to react to their uniting with other groups, remind others that Scientology is not as tolerant about the practice of other religions as they pretend to be, and also remind people how Hubbard came to take religious cloaking in the first place, after the failure of his science of the mind.

Part of that religious cloaking involved insisting Scientology is at the top of the heap, above all other religions, and that not being a Scientologist means shivering in darkness for the next trillion years. This is preying on the spiritual yearning of people. Make people understand that with Scientology, they're trying to hit all angles -- it's a science, a philosophy, a religion, a floor wax.

It is important that people who have been stewed in any religion since they were born, understand that just because they were born into it, it doesn't mean it is the only true religion. Atheists can bring people that rather obvious message, which is something everyone brought up in a religion thinks about anyway, but can't quite reconcile. They keep trying to ignore it.

For centuries now, people did not have easy access to the real facts about the history of their own religion, let alone the beliefs and practices of others. Because of the Internet they do. And for the first time they can listen to or read the thoughts of atheists, or members of other religious groups, find out how they think, what they believe. I think this is a positive transformation.

I like Sam Harris, an atheist whom I consider to be very kind, compassionate and thoughtful about religion and spirituality, and an articulate speaker. Some people think he's a hater and religious bigot. He makes more sense to me than some blowhard like Hubbard blabbering on about beingness, havingness and knowingness, and his former life on Venus.

Is Scientology extending their ecumenical outreach to embrace an SP psycho-apostate like Marty Rathbun? Probably not. They're probably just using him. And his attack isn't spiritual at all. Marty is an example of what Scientology can do with their money. It's like spending millions on following Pat Broeker around, not very spiritual.

Unless Scientology starts giving money to people for taking courses instead of charging people for them, it's going to continue to fail from exposure, even with Marty's special ability to keep talking but be incomprehensible.

--snipped for brevity--

Scientology thrived under secrecy, while using a wide variety of ploys to entice and trap people. A lot of these ploys are failing because of the voluminous information on the Internet. Scientology Paradox #835: For a half-century Hubbardites have religiously performed their sacred scriptural duties in the rites & rituals called "SURVEYS". Hubbard indoctrinated all Scientology executives to intensely study and rely on the infallibility of surveys--before undertaking any promotional/marketing effort. Yet, 98% of the surveys[SUP]1 [/SUP]turned in by Scientologists are quite fully and intentionally ignored. For reasons unknown, Scientology is only interested in the surveys of the 2% (i.e. those remaining bridge devotés that did not eventually blow).

[SUP]1[/SUP] Statistically (over time) 98% of Scientologists abandon their "bridge to total freedom" because, at best, it simply did not work--or, at worst, it crushed their personal freedom, finance and/or fun. Therefore, 98% of the surveyed responses are brutally negative--because what worse survey responses could Scientology possibly receive than profoundly disgruntled customers who swear they will never buy again. And many of those leave bitter "Reviews" across the internet--as warnings to other prospective customers--which Scientology then promptly ignores and labels as "natter". Scientologists have a term for this kind of willful ignorance of 98% of the survey results--they call that "NOT-IS". However, if you ask them about why they refuse to listen to their own customers--they will explain that Ron states that one should always "cut entheta lines" so that everyone lives happily ever after. CONCLUSION: Scientology's "surveys" are not surveys at all. They are loyalty tests. If you answer what you really think, you flunk the survey and get routed to bigger beings so that you can be "handled".
