I was going to post a lot more of those :hysterical: but the room here is getting very chilly and I am concerned that I should conserve some of of those laughing thingies in case I need to use them as firewood so I don't freeze to death.

OK now this thread has been completely derailed.

FINAL WARNING! LAST CHANCE TO HIT YOUR "IGNORE BUTTON"

Yeah kinda.

But then again, this thread is called:

Scientology is all bad

It is pretty much a graphic showcase of what happens when a Scientologist enters a Scientology whistleblowing thread and it goes "all bad".

Things get all stirred up and wacky.

Then the whistleblowers get [STRIKE]targeted[/STRIKE] moderated for being a religious [STRIKE]bigot[/STRIKE] bully.

Re: Honesty is not "bullying"

... Yesterday you responded to Mark on the "Apollo Thread" as follows: ...

Provide the link so others can follow the exchange and understand the context.

http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthre...he-Apollo-1973&p=719628&viewfull=1#post719628

And for the record, I was not the individual who introduced the topic of 'pulling it in', nor is it a concept to which I accord any validity, as the full exchange demonstrates.

Indeed, it has always been obvious to me that the PII serfac is one of the more obvious serfacs routinely used by the cult to enforce obedience.

Yeah, some of us tried to take some of the aggression out of ESMB, especially when dealing with new guys, and it nearly caused WWIII. I've kind of given up now.

Sorry to hear it. Thanks for the effort.

I know it cost you in terms of added unnecessary stress.

... Now, I don't think MAB intends these gimmicks as any sort of application of any "tech", but they come across that way nonetheless. ....

They are called irony, native wit, and satire and are much prized as literary traits among those with an education.

However, those with an history of excessive involvement with the church of scientology often characterize such aspects as 'covert hostility', 'joking', & 'degrading'.

What a person sees is a reflection of what that person's own thoughts.

Well, thanks. But.....

I am not sure why you are concerned about the responses that Mark Baker gets to what he posts.
I already said why, it irks me.

It seems to me that if he is getting responses he doesn't like he can do something about his posts. Or just continue soliciting that same kind of response.
He could do either of these things but whether or not he does is up to him.

I see that you wish that I would change how I post. Do you also wish Mark Baker would change how he posts? Or is there some reason that he has a free get-out-of-jail card despite his frequent caustic insinuations and nasty insults?
I wish that you both would be civil to each other and others here. I don't know anything about get-out-of-jail cards in this instance.

I never asked for anyone to change their posts.
Good for you, me neither. What's done is done, I already said what I'd prefer but understand that "you can't always get what you want".

If there is some rule I am breaking why isn't there some official moderation of what I am saying?
I already posted the "be respectful" Rule. I have no real idea why the Moderators concerned with such things have allowed the behavior to continue but I did venture the "perhaps (some) think he brings it on himself" concept in my first post on the matter. Then, of course, there's the fact that your [strike] inciteful [/strike] insightful posting here is highly valued by many, myself included.

Or am I perilously close to going on vacation and this is an early warning system where I am being asked to come to my senses?
Not that I know of. I commented on it because it irked me, I wasn't specifically addressing you.

I don't get it. So my posts are sometimes edgy. So what? Are we living in some old people's retirement village where the kids are told to keep the music low and tuned into the classical station? If so, duuuuuude I am so in the wrong place.
I like your posts. I don't think anything I've said would warrant this idea forming in your mind but you're the one in charge of that department.

I don't bother with 99% of the Scientologists who want to promote their tech here. I don't even post on threads that are notoriously tech-talk zones like the Apollo thread because I know I would derail their fun.
Me neither.

The only people (besides Baker) that I ever took exception to their tech-spew enough to bother posting responses to were Sneakster and Vinaire, who were both wackjobs. Yeah, that's probably ad hom and a violation, but I don't see any difference in calling a wackjob a wackjob any more than calling Hubbard a criminal con man. It's just what it is. And the great besmircher Marty is called some juicy things too, but nobody seems to care. And ESMB is a gold medal winner in the Ad Hom COB event, an achievement which they can rightly be proud of.
Sure, I understand that. I happen to also like Sneakster and Vinaire and have spoken up in their defence too when the ad-homs irked me. If something irks me I say something about it rather than suppress it, so what?

Yeah so Mark is an innocent poster and I am the one stirring up the problems, right?
Wrong, I didn't say that and I don't think that.

Well, okay, proceed with the com ev then. Let's see how those facts check out.
I don't do Comm Ev's.

It's really simple. If I need to be reported and moderated to stop what I am posting, then do it. If I am told that my posts are not fitting in with the model of ESMB any longer, I won't gripe. I still loved posting and hanging here before I wore out my welcome. We already know that I am not going to be told what to post, so I won't make a fuss if that's what it is.
You're imagining things. I asked (politely) that people (not you) ease up on the personal attacks on Mark. The reaction to that simple request has been kinda interesting.

Let's get it done whatever the verdict is. I don't like being unofficially moderated, it's a buzzkill. :hysterical: And I came to have fun, so whatever ya gotta do, just do it.
You seem to be taking things much more seriously than usual.

I've been told several times that I shouldn't mention this kind of thing, that I appear to be attempting to police other posters (kinda like that "being told what I should post" thingie you mentioned). It's just me and how I am now, when I see something that irks me I say something about it. If I'd done that more often when I was a scientologist I probably would have been out of it much sooner and be a whole lot better off for having spoken up.

I see it; you see it; others see it; but some can't see it.

Baker seems to be in the role of an unknowing pawn of some sort.

What's behind it, I can only guess.

It has nothing to do with Emma.

Probably the wisest course is to ignore Baker's posts as much as possible.

Thanks, I know what you are talking about.
...
I see it all play out very clearly and weigh what people are saying to see if I have gone overboard or if they are talking about someone else's posts.

I did a lot in my life to earn personal freedom and I cherish it. So I enjoy the right to say what I think. It is one of the things I ended up truly detesting about Scientology and Scientologists. The relentless effort to re-route thoughts and speech into a pre-approved pattern. I reject that entirely.

I don't mind that some prefer my "light" humor.

And I don't mind that others prefer my "dark" humor.

In my mind there is no difference. They are both just expressions of what is felt or thought....

Yeh, I get it, HH. We all have our preferences and we all have different personalities. You're an awesome poster and part of the "hub" that makes up the core of ESMB. I couldn't even imagine ESMB without you - how dull and boring it would be. Yeh, I do think you go overboard sometimes. Others may not feel that way, but there is nothing wrong with stating my feelings honestly, either.

If I didn't think you were a caring good guy that I could talk to, would I even bother trying to bring this up to you? Nope.

You and I understand each other pretty well, HH. I have no quarrel with you, just a preference and to be honest, it felt good to say my piece back there.

If someone has something to say what difference does it make if it comes out "light" or "edgy" if it is a real communication?
....
I am acutely aware of social protocols and have regular meetings with persons of all stations in life from the street-sweeper to the "top" of major corporations & enterprise and maybe I have beers with guys in a biker gang, too. I don't have any problem modulating and "dialing in" to any wavelength that makes things fun or interesting. ...

No doubt! HH, you have outstanding social skills. Seriously. So it must drive you batty sometimes when your chats with Mark go in circles, right? That no matter what you do or say you can't get through to him sometimes?

You keep addressing the scn issues with him and it doesn't resolve. So that means he's either a stubborn scn or..... ? or something else or a combination of scn and something else.

I know someone else who talks like Mark does in many (but not all) social situations, and that person is not a scn. This person has stated to me he does this when he, "doesn't feel comfortable to be himself".

Maybe that helps, HH, maybe not. We are not all capable of helping everyone - sometimes we're just the wrong person for that individual, or the timing is bad or the method of communication (i.e., Internet forum) isn't right for that person. But there are loads of people who are not at their best when they feel uncomfortable.

...to me, he gets attacked...NOT FOR HIS IDEAS, but for the WAY HE STATES THEM.

When Hoaxter or anybody else jokes and kids about MAB's use of unusual words and his "writing style" - I get it too. As I am sure other's do. His writing style ALONE often discourages me from even reading some of his stuff. Academic - pretentiously erudite - pedantic - pedagogic . . . . (you pick the appropriate adjective).

Exactly my point above. Personally, I think the more pedantic the writing style, the more uncomfortable and frustrated Mark is, Gadfly, and then you know the conversation isn't going to go anywhere because he's got his back up. Don't assume this social reaction is a scn thing!

We are free to think whatever we want. We are less free to say whatever we want, and even less free to DO whatever we want. Unless we are sociopaths.

By the way, for Emma, I think we actually had WWIII and survived it!

I love this (in bold). Nice, S&L.

the BULLY CARD !

One of the things I noticed over the years is that the only time I see the BULLY CARD try to get played on any board is when some self-appointed thread nanny fails at herding cats so they pull that bully card as the last possible play.

Sure hope we don't see that kind stuff around here !

My thought re the comment about Sneaks and Vinaire

I think referring to them as whackjobs is unfair. I've known both of them for a long time and they're good people. Both of them have given me advice when I asked for it and are nice decent people.

Of course I could point to many quirks they have but I- or you or anyone else- could do that with anyone on the face of this earth. They're no more whacky than anyone else I know. Vinny is a brilliant mathematician and a very nice man. Sneaks also is very bright and he's written some great posts about the cult, including his experiences in the SO.

They are both inclined to be a bit on the prickly defensive side but that's neither uncommon nor is it the crime of the century.

I don't agree with everything either of them think but I could say that about all kinds of people. You could not find one topic on this forum- even if you excluded any of the indies of FZers- on which you'd get 100% agreement here. It will never happen.

That's just how it seems to me. We're all just people here and we're all rather unusual.

It can be a bit of a buzzphrase that is meaningless, at times. I've seen that happen.

And sometimes there is bullying going on.

So I don't have an arbitrary about that- that it's always bullshit or a tactic or that it's always true. It is a thing that happens sometimes and sometimes it's an untrue claim.

Well Gib, I must say you're doing just fine! Glad we didn't scare you off.

yes, that's true.

I kind of realized one day that I had no overts or withholds from people here and I have never met any of you nor know you. So the ARCX thingie kind of became non serious for me. And a few posters liked my postings so I says to myself, I just wish to communicate.

Mark A. Baker :)

First, if what you were actually doing here on ESMB were of the nature of irony, native wit, and satire, that would be fine, but it isn't.

Now, maybe you intend it that way, but short phrases on a computer screen are a very poor medium for these things (unless composed in ways that make them obvious). So, if THAT is what THINK you are doing, you are failing miserably. If you actually have any concern or desire that your "native wit" and "irony" is seen and received as these things, then you might try better paying attention to "the other end of the comm line" - and notice that for the most part these things are NOT "duplicated on the receiving end".

And it is NOT the "fault" of the readers - as your last sentence implies.

On this comment, "What a person sees is a reflection of [STRIKE]what [/STRIKE]that person's own thoughts", that is true in SOME cases. For example, when I see how the Church of Scientology lied and aimed to sabotage the life of Paulette Cooper through VERY underhanded HUBBARD "tech", IT EXISTED JUST AS THAT. It isn't ME (or anyone else) that is "seeing this" because it is, ummm, how did you say, "a reflection of my own mind".

This is typical of exactly what you do Baker. This is a perfect example. YOU AGAIN OVER-GENERALIZED (as you so often do). You said:

"What a person sees is a reflection of [STRIKE]what [/STRIKE]that person's own thoughts."

Again, that is true in SOME cases and in SOME contexts, but you state it as some complete "truth". :duh:

And, in typical Scientology habit, that comment does what Scientology ALWAYS does - it blames the person and NOT Scientology. See, what you IMPLY is that if a person notices anything bad in some area that it must be a "reflection of the person". If a person doesn't "get" your wit and irony then it must be his or her fault (reflection of THEIR OWN mind). Personally, to me, this is hilarious. :hysterical:

There are TWO things occurring in reality. The "objective events, situations and occurrences", and the subjective reactions and relationships that people have with them. Your above comment entirely omitted that fact that even without an observer to observe some of your absurd statements, to act as a "reflector" (as you would say), the comments are still absurd (as adjudicated by most people with a common education and a decent state of mental health).

People don't fail to "get" your irony, native wit, and satire because they "see something else as a reflection of their own mind", but because for the most part, you are not very good at it. I get the feeling in some of your posts that you are typing away, laughing as if some great joke is being relayed - yet YOU are the ONLY one laughing. For all the talk of "comm" and "paying attention to the receiving end of the comm line" that occurs in Scientology, and for one who claims to like some aspects of this subject of Scientology, this is one area where you seem to possibly need some major improvement.

Last point. Some people don't enjoy long posts. Mine tend to be longer because I like to provide EXAMPLES for any general statements made. When you FAIL to provide any supporting discussion when stating something like, ""what a person sees is a reflection of [STRIKE]what [/STRIKE]that person's own thoughts", it acts just like Hubbard's own "open-ended" statements where the ONLY option is for the reader the "fill in the meaning" (dub-in). And yes, dub-in DOES follow the tendency of where a person WILL "see what already exists on his or her own mind". THAT is a major problem with speaking in fucking generalities all of the time!!!! (that was a generality)

Also, this isn't even a correct sane proper sentence:

""What a person sees is a reflection of what that person's own thoughts."

Now maybe, it could be stated as. "What a person sees is a reflection of what that person thinks", or ""What a person sees is a reflection of what exists in that person's own thoughts." But even then, it is simply, still, an over-generalized statement. Not all people exist in THAT sorry state of reflexive automaticity . . . . .

Now, maybe YOU were speaking from experience here and were mistakenly extrapolating your OWN personal mental tendencies on others.:confused2:

Note: The above sentence is an example of what YOU often do. It is an underhanded quip. It is a snide remark. It isn't aimed at "real discussion" - it is aimed at creating some stupid effect. And, this sort of thing, to me, is NOT irony, native wit, or satire.

As I see it, you too often don't involve yourself in REAL honest discussion to get anywhere - you play games and "argue" (using all sorts of gimmicks and ruses) in some attempt to "win" (at some game that exists in ONLY your head, and that ONLY you are playing).

Also, you are NOT the ONLY one who does this - some of your more traditional ESMB "opterms" also do it at times.

To me, it just gets old and boring.

Just talk - have a sincere discussion - don't "argue" or play games of reason and logic. This is NOT a "debate club". That's all I try to do, and it seems that most people "get" what I say most of the time. :confused2:

And, who knows, maybe not.

I find it interesting that when a board is old enough, and posters have been around long enough, that there can actually be an activity named after a poster - ie "Baker Baiting" that becomes sort of frowned on. Makes one think.

Perhaps Mark has come to represent a certain point of view that is unchanging. I have both liked and disliked his posts and I don't feel he is in any need of defence after all this time (do you Mark?). He makes comments that seem designed to get emotional responses from exes, and it happens. At the same time some of the responses have veered awfully close to dog piling, one of the things I still have a problem with as representative of a leftover scientology view.

As we are finally free to communicate freely, as long as it'd done with respect for the person as an individual making an argument, I say go for it. If someone feels offended, report the post and let someone else decide.

Here's to more humour!

We really are a strange bunch.

I doubt very much if message boards pertaining to any other subject carry on as we do (sadly for them).

Our goodness is evident throughout the board as is our badness (well, mine anyway!) but please, lets just move on now because I very much doubt any of us would like to be 'discussed' in this way by people, who mostly don't know us very well at all apart from as our persona's on ESMB.
