Since I started my posting on ESMB on this thread and since the reason I even came on this board was to get back in touch with the guys and gals from the good ole' days I thought I should let you guys know something.

About five or six years ago I was on top of the world.

I was finally on my way to accomplishing what I always wanted in my life.

But then I fell really ill and my whole world collapsed.

I only kept my sanity because of my wife standing by me through some difficult times.

And also because I had this thread and ESMB to keep my spirits up.

Well over the years the medical bills have virtually bankrupted me.

I was gradually getting better, like two steps forward and one back, but better over all.

Then about six weeks ago the bottom dropped out again.

Now I'm back where I was six years ago, actually even worse, since I can't even stand up unassisted.

But today when my wife came home from work, and tired and aching as she was, she came over to me and gave me a great big hug.

I so love this woman!

And right there and then I decided the hell with this mess; I'm going to go all out, not only to get better, but to get back on top of the world and finally accomplish what I was on my way to accomplish six years ago.

My doctors think it is unrealistic for me mentally and physically.

And financially it seems even more impossible.

But I am going to go all out and get back on top of my world or else die trying.

So you guys might not see me much here for awhile, but I'll be looking in on this thread because this thread always lifts my spirits.

But it's all right, now in fact it's a gas.

But it's all right

I'm Jumping Jacques Flash, it's a gas, gas, gas!

Go for it, TAJ.

TAJ

I am sorry to here of you medical issues. My thoughts/prayers are with you.

Three years ago I had a blood sugar of 300 and no income. I stripped my life down to the bare minimum to accomplish one goal. I ride bicycle - no car. I went on food stamps. I just kept registering for classes one semester at a time. I carry no money because I am a whore-mongering addict and would wastefully celebrate if I had more than a twenty in my pocket. I focus on the challenges (hills) of the day. I try to hang with logos (as you might say). I care less about others opinions of me.

I think you have a better character than I and I believe that you can break-it-down to the "hills-of-the day" and stand.

May Logos be with you!

I had to google whore mongering addict.

by addict, you mean addicted to sex - but paid sex.

you wouldn't want to talk about that, would you?

sometimes, just owning your passions, gives one a new look about things.

I wonder if Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg put "uh, you know, ah, uh, you know, well, you know, uh, you know" in her credential packet for the Japanese head poobah.

oh, unrelated to my above posts, I notice TAJ DID mention me by my real name in a recent FCDC post about us alumni. Very sly TAJ.

Haha, I think I will go practice. Enough post pushing for the time being. I have way too far to go for my next star, so I will take my time. Should I practice Haydn? or Duport? or scales? Maybe all of it. Toodle ooo

Spot on. Even if you know said firearm is not loaded. Good reason for that rule. If you treat a firearm cavalierly you could make the mistake of your life and end someone else's. And its corollary is never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.

Too many people have gotten shot by firearms that the shooter "knew" was unloaded. Always cultivate good habits like "treat every firearm as being loaded" and "never allow your muzzle to point at anything you would be upset to see destroyed". This is because "habit" is what you're operating on when you're tired or distracted, and that's when you are most at risk of an accident.

One thing I always do with novices who I'm training, after giving them the rules for safe gun handling at the range, is to rack the slide on the pistol (ejecting the round), remove the magazine, and ask them "So, now that I've unloaded the pistol, is it now OK to wave it around?". Then point it at the target, pull the trigger, and have it go bang. About half the novices don't pick up on the fact that racking the slide BEFORE ejecting the mag puts a fresh round in the chamber.

And he was committing a felony by even possessing a handgun in DC.

Only AFTER 1976 when the law made the 2nd Amendment null and void. I routinely saw people carrying firearms in DC before that. Saw a regular guy in a bar in Georgetown packing, and another around Dupont Circle. Not a peep from the cops about it either.

The USMC studied how long it takes to make a physical action automatic. In other words they studied how to make the infantryman react without even thinking in a combat situation. And they discovered that 3000 repetitions of any given action is enough to make it subconcious, a habit, an automatic reaction to a given stimulous.

I told this to my old stand partner in the US Marine Band and he said "Thank god the directors never saw that study. We would be rehearsing night and day."
