New SP Times article: Former Scientology insiders describe a world of coercion

I heard that over a month ago, so if they offloaded him into a paid for mansion to shut him up since the, I wouldn't know.

As an aside, can someone tell me why some people end up in SP Hall and others end up like Marty? Clearly, Marty got more than the $500 token consideration to keep his mouth shut. What's the diff between him and Heber & Co. out in SP Hall? And then there is Mike Rinder who was also offloaded, but clearly not set up Marty-style with the house and toys.

I know that Scno ethics is random, at best, but can someone explain the diff between Marty, Mike Rinder, and poor Heber who is still in the Hole?

Both Mike and Marty blew (left suddenly without 'authorization'). They did not "route out", signed nothing and (obviously) were paid nothing. Mike blew when he was sent to London to handle a PR Flap. Marty blew from the Int base after a day or so in the SP Hall.

I can only imagine that Heber lacks either the physical ability or knowledge of how to escape, or both. Or, it could be "Stockholm Syndrome". Or apathy.

Or, Heber still accepts and believes all of Hubbard's spew, and he eagerly and happily submits to the RPF or whatever "corrective actions" he might be undergoing to "address and handle his own personal flaws and weaknesses as a BEING". :duh:

Some people don't actually have the view that there is anything to "escape from". It is the nature of a "true believer" to sacrifice all sorts of personal things for the "good of the group or ideal".

Marty seems to live pretty high for someone who blew with no $. Part of my question was where the money to live that way came from? He doesn't sell used cars or live a relatively humble lifestyle like Rinder. Is Marty getting that much out of Indie auditing?

And if Tommy has all those luxuries that were mentioned earlier, where did they come from? I know Ann Archer is probably loaded, but she'd be disconnected if he was really blown and living in a mansion with servants and all that. :-/

See St Petes' Times articles. Some of those cash cows are now in Marty's paddock. One reason why he will not stop selling Ron's cool aid.

No one knows about Marty's finances except Marty and his friends and family who he chooses to tell. I do know from his own writings, that he had his own money already from a family inheritance, iirc. His wife works too. Anyway, I do not believe he is being taken care of by the C of S in anyway nor has he been paid to be silent (which he certainly is not).

Could you provide some verification for the last two persons listed? Both have been spared being sued by the CofS and having been locked in prolonged legal battles with the CofS. That doesn't mean that there is not a gag agreement of sort. The "gag" agreement may be a mutual understanding between Miscavige, Rathbun&Rinder that certain mutually sensitive and incriminating subjects not be broached, such as the shady 1993 USA IRS Tax arrangement. So there's an untold story there.

Much is made of these "settlements," but the personal circumstances of each of these people - including, in some cases, large accumulated legal bills (money owed to lawyers), and debts to private individuals, many of whom desperately wanted to be repaid - are not considered, including, in the case of Martin Samuels, having had his finances looted by L. Ron Hubbard by way of his henchman David Miscavige and Miscavige's lieutenants.

It is interesting that Gerry Armstrong, who described his situation leading up to the (global, or lots of people at once) "settlement," while in Germany a few months ago, and described the $50,000 penalties for each time he did speak out, is still speaking out, yet he is hated by Marty Rathbun and Mike Rinder and the Independent Scientologists.

It's almost as though they're upset that Armstrong isn't complying with the gag agreement.

Here are some people who are still speaking out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhULw6qarW4

Many of those who did succumb to the pressure for reasons such as described above, gave valuable testimony and accounts that still are of help to others.

Some of it is testimony regarding L. Ron Hubbard and "besmirched his good name," and, as a result, they are despised by both CofS and Independent Scientologists. It's a bit of a phony pose for Independent Scientologist to condemn others for signing a "settlement" agreement, when they are just as delighted as the CofS that these people have been silenced, and just as upset that Gerry Armstrong has not been silenced.

It is interesting that Gerry Armstrong, who described his situation leading up to the (global, or lots of people at once) "settlement," while in Germany a few months ago...
Do you mean the trip Gerry made to Germany right after Marty Rathbun and Graham Berry were in Germany at the invitation of Ursula Caberta?

BTW, why wasn't Gerry invited to tag along with the big boys on that trip? Is it because Gerry is old news? I mean, how often can people hear the same old story from 1986 about how Gerry's big $800,000 payday was so unfair. :melodramatic:

...and described the $50,000 penalties for each time he did speak out, is still speaking out
Oh c'mon Veda! The Cult will never see a penny from Gerry. Gerry has no money because God told him to give it all away so he did. Even Ken Moxon bawwed in court that Gerry is incorrigible in breaking the contract. Gerry basically told the Court to go fuck itself because he has no intention of obeying the $800,000 contract he signed with the Cult.

After it is all boiled down to its essence, Gerry's only penalty is 27 days in the County jail if he enters California. So long as Gerry stays out of CA he is free to travel the world -- as we saw when he recently traveled abroad to bore a small audience of Germans -- and speak out with impunity. I don't get what Gerry's real problem is except of course for the jail sentence. But even that will never happen if he stays out of California.

yet he is hated by Marty Rathbun and Mike Rinder and the Independent Scientologists.
Gerry certainly hates M&M and the Indies and prattles on at length about how they are liars, crooks, etc. IMO, Gerry hates the fact that the Indies made him old news and took the limelight off him. Gerry was the golden boy of Scientology critics for a long time and now the Media can't get enough of M&M and the Indies. It is hard to be a fading diva.

The Indies break new stories all the time and the Media likes them. Ironically, Gerry needs M&M in order to get any media coverage at all these days:

INVITATION

Gerry Armstrong is in Berlin to talk about Rathbun and Rinder
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Berlin, September 17, 15.30 - Location will be announced ASAP

Marty Rathbun and Mike Rinder were responsible for the submissions to
the IRS on which Scientology's tax exemption is based. These submissions
contain pages of false information and black PR on Gerry Armstrong...

I have trouble knowing what to think about M&M. On the one hand, they are obviously peddling LRH koolaid. I don't know whether or not they believe it, or if it is just a nice cash cow.

I have a hard time believing that DM is taking care of Marty. He's so vocal against DM. But I have seen the Squirrelbuster videos, and and they are so bizarre. At worst, they seem like America's Funniest Home Videos bred with the Not Quite Ready for Prime Time Players and the worst possible bastard offspring was born. In other words, I can see why some people think they are totally contrived.

If Marty did get an inheritance, that would explain a lot. I would assume he got it after he blew, since the Co$ didn't get their hands on it.

Here's what I don't get - WHY HAS MARTY NOT BROUGHT DOWN THE HOUSE OF CARDS???

It seems like he has a hell of an incentive to do so, since he'd get a lot more bodies into the Marty shop.

As for Tommy, I'll believe SP Hall until I see dox that he is out in the Wog world.

I saw Gerry in Los Angeles around 1990, and he was staying at some one's small apartment for a few days, sleeping on a rubber mat on the floor. So, I guess you're right, he did give it all away, and quickly. I guess he knew they would have taken it anyway, so he gave it away, and, when visiting Los Angeles, instead of staying at a motel or hotel, slept on the floor. Sounds like a nut, huh?

He broke his "contract" with Scientology and continued speaking out. That upset Scientology quite a lot. The LRH anti-besmirching society, and its members J. Swift, Marty&Mike, David Miscavige, and Ken Moxon, don't like that at all.

Veda, I could care less if Gerry broke the contract he signed with the Church of Scientology.

What I care about is that Gerry lies about it and has lied about it for decades.

Gerry attacks LRH, Scientology, the Indies, the courts, and all of his real and imagined enemies as liars - and yet he has spent decades lying about the facts in his case.

Gerry is a pathological liar when it comes to his legal case. He is no different than LRH in this regard.

Several days ago, you were attempting to trash Judge Breckenridge's findings re. L. Ron Hubbard, now you're agreeing with them. Is that a sign of confusion or just desperation in your efforts at public opinion manipulation?

Expanded excerpts from the 20 June 1984 findings of Judge Breckenridge:

"As indicated by its factual findings, the court finds the testimony of Gerald and Joycelyn Armstrong, Laurel Sullivan, Nancy Dincalcis, Edward Walters, Omar Garrison, Kima Douglas, and Howard Schomer to be credible, extremely persuasive... In all critical and important matters their testimony was precise, accurate and rang true...

"Each has broken with the movement for a variety of reasons, but at the same time, each is still bound by the knowledge that the Church has in its possession his or her own most inner thoughts and confessions, all recorded in 'pre-clear' folders, or other security files of the organization, and that the Church or its minions is fully capable of physical intimidation, or other physical or psychological abuse if it suits their ends. The record is replete with evidence of such abuse.

"In addition to violating and abusing its own members' civil rights, the organization over the years with its 'Fair Game' doctrine has harassed and abused those persons not in the Church whom it perceives as enemies.

"The organization clearly is schizophrenic and paranoid, and this bizarre combination seems to be a reflection of its founder LRH. The evidence portrays a man who has been virtually a pathological liar when it comes to his history, background and achievements.

"The writings and documents in evidence additionally reflect his egotism, greed, avarice, lust for power, and vindictiveness and aggressiveness against persons perceived by him to be disloyal or hostile.

"At the same time it appears that he is charismatic and highly capable of motivating, organizing, controlling, manipulating, and inspiring his adherents...

"Obviously, he is and was a very complex person, and that complexity is further reflected in his alter-ego, the Church of Scientology. Notwithstanding protestations to the contrary, this court is satisfied that LRH runs the Church in all ways, through the Sea Organization, his role as Commodore, and the Commodore's Messengers.

"He has, of course, chosen to go into 'seclusion', but he maintains contact and control through his top messengers.

"Seclusion has its light and dark side too. It adds to his mystique, and yet shields him from accountability and subpoena and service of summons.

"LRH's wife, Mary Sue Hubbard, is also a plaintiff herein. On the one hand she certainly appeared to be a pathetic individual. She was forced from her post as Controller, convicted and imprisoned as a felon, and deserted by her husband.

"On the other hand her credibility leaves much to be desired. she struck the familiar pose of not seeing, hearing, or knowing any evil..."

Veda, given your ability to so blatantly and histrionically lie in public I am frankly surprised that you do not hold elected office.

I did not trash Judge Breckenridge's opinion in any way. What I posted at OCMB was the following:

operatingwog said:
I think you're probably right to say Swift doesn't hate Gerry Armstrong. I shouldn't have said that. I should've stuck at saying that he is acting hatefully towards him. I think that's true. I think he's being obtuse in suggesting that Gerry freely signed away his right to free speech, and in referencing the video and affadavit evidence he adduced to back this up. I assume his obtuseness is deliberate and that the failure is a moral one. But I suppose it's theoretically possible that he really is just incredibly stupid, in which case I apologise to him for attributing bad motives to him.
Operatingwog: That you would characterize my presentation of legal evidence as being obtuse, a moral failing, or stupid displays the same angry hypocrisy that is native to Gerry Armstrong. When a court rules in his favor, Gerry loves the court. For example, Gerry has quoted Judge Breckenridge's 1984 remarks on LRH countless times:

In October 1984 Judge Paul G. Breckenridge ruled in Armstrong's favor, saying: The evidence portrays a man who has been virtually a pathological liar when it comes to his history, background and achievements. The writings and documents in evidence additionally reflect his egoism, greed, avarice, lust for power, and vindictiveness and aggressiveness against persons perceived by him to be disloyal or hostile. At the same time it appears that he is charismatic and highly capable of motivating, organizing, controlling, manipulating and inspiring his adherents. He has been referred to during the trial as a "genius", a "revered person", a man who was "viewed by his followers in awe". Obviously, he is and has been a very complex person and that complexity is further reflected in his alter ego, the Church of Scientology.

However, when the courts have ruled against him, Gerry goes on tirades and hurls angry screeds at the court. Here we read some of Gerry's rocket scientist legal work from 2001 in which Gerry insults the Judge and the legal system. This is really a winning strategy on Armstrong's part:

8. Scientology and Mr. Wilson state: "Armstrong,by his serial contempts and contumacious behavior, has amply demonstrated that he will continue to defy this Court's authority unless adequate criminal sanctions are ordered." (App.Memo,1:6-8) This is false.

This Court has no authority to make unlawful orders; which would include orders against public policy, orders in flagrant unnecessary violation of Constitutional guarantees, orders which are impossible to perform, and orders which generate a great stupidity. In my opinion, I presented, with competent legal representation and assistance throughout much of this litigation by attorney Ford Greene, a more than adequate argument to Judge Thomas, supported by a more than adequate evidentiary record, that the "agreement's" conditions which Scientology was trying to enforce by liquidated damages and injunction were unlawful; specifically, obstructive of justice, against public policy, flagrantly and unnecessarily violative of Constitutional guarantees, impossible, and generative of a great stupidity. In my opinion, Judge Thomas wrongly disposed of my more than adequate defenses to Scientology's claims by flawed reasoning on summary adjudication, in order prevent a trial, which, I believe, the record shows I was due. I refer the Court to the section of my brief entitled " The Settlement Agreement Obstructs Justice," for a discussion of the unlawful purpose of the "agreement."(Ex. A, 36-41.)

19. There are no "adequate criminal sanctions" which can be ordered to make me comply with the Injunction, because it is not lawful. What Judge Thomas did and said, since he would not logically address the defenses and issues I raised, has served only to strengthen my conviction that the Injunction he signed is unlawful, and therefore need not be complied with and cannot legally be enforced. Likewise, what Scientology has done and said since Judge Thomas signed the Injunction has only strengthened my conviction that it is unlawful. The obvious need of Mr. Wilson and Scientology to lie to this Court in order to get me punished for violating the Injunction also only convinces me that it is unlawful, and moreover that Mr. Wilson and Scientology know it is unlawful. Not one person, no judge or lawyer or Scientology black PR agent, has said one logical word to change my conviction that the Injunction is unlawful, and the conditions of the "settlement agreement" which it enforces are unlawful. Unless I can be convinced that the Injunction is lawful, it is impossible for me to consider it lawful, and therefore comply with it.
ref: http://www.gerryarmstrong.org/50k/legal/a4/3095.php

The court did not agree with Gerry:

MARIN SUPERIOR COURT

DATE:10/05/07 TIME: 9:00 A.M. DEPT: L CASE NO: CV021632

PRESIDING: HON. LYNN DURYEE
REPORTER: DEBORAH BARTUNEK
CLERK: JANET MINKIEWICZ

PLAINTIFF: CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY INTERNATIONAL
vs.
DEFENDAN T: GERALD ARMSTRONG, ET AL

NATURE OF PROCEEDINGS: MOTION TO SET EVIDENTIARY HEARING PURSUANT TO CCP SEC. 1670.5... TO STAY SCIENTOLOGY'S MOTION TO REINSTATE JAIL...; TO STAY ALL OTHER ACTIONS AGAINST DEFENDANT [DEFT] GERALD ARMSTRONG

RULING

DEFENDANT'S MOTION FOR AN EVIDENTIARY HEARING, PURSUANT TO CIV. CODE § 1670.5, IS DENIED.

THE JUDGMENT IN FAVOR OF PLAINTIFF ON ITS ACTION FOR BREACH OF THE SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT, IS FINAL AND BINDING ON DEFENDANT.

ALSO, DEFENDANT IS BARRED FROM RAISING DEFENSES TO THE ENFORCEABILITY OF THE SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT BY THE DOCTRINES OF RES JUDICATA, AND LAW OF THE CASE.
ref: http://www.gerryarmstrong.org/50k/legal/a7/3923.php

*****
Gerry nevertheless persists in his battle with the Marin County Court. As he and Caroline declare on gerryarmstrong.org:

We are fully aware that many documents herein, and gerryarmstrong.org itself, are prima facie violations of an Injunction the Scientology cult obtained in California Superior Court against Gerry Armstrong and anyone acting in concert with him. It is our conviction, however, that said Injunction is illegal, legally unenforceable, a legally impermissible violation of our civil rights to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, due process and freedom from slavery, and that the Injunction was obtained by the Scientology cult by fraud, threat and other illegal means. We therefore believe that we are legally and completely justified in webbing and making available the information and documents on this site.

When Judge Beckenridge said something Gerry liked that was good. All of the other courts and judges Gerry has dealt with were apparently morally reprehensible criminals who were either in bed with OSA or were threatened by OSA. Of course, these judges and courts may have been incredibly stupid -- in which case Gerry should apologize for attributing bad motives to these courts and judges.

Of course (in another thread), you attempted to trash Judge Breckenridge's findings.

Swift, I'm really not interested in your, or Marty&Mike's, or Miscavige&Moxon's, fixation on Gerry Armstrong. Nor do I appreciate your attempts to manipulate others.

I presented a large part of Judge Paul Breckenridge's findings for those interested.

These observations were the result of the testimony of many witnesses, and many documents that were viewed and reviewed.

I hope some find it helpful.

How very ironic (if Tommy Davis is in Sp Hole) that he is in the very punishment prison that he emphatically denied even existed !

He has an extremely wealthy father.

Some major long term top execs recently exited INT Base.

How long will Tommy Davis take the abuse ?

Until his equilibrium is regained to the point where he can stand upright and walk out like a man. This is likely to happen when the amount of abuse he takes is brought into balance with the amount of abuse he gave.

Hm, isn't mommy dearest, the aging actress, one of his ardent supporters?

Regardless, Tommy was born in and with a silver anal-probe dutifully inserted, I'd be surprised if he lasted a week in the real world and had to actually do a real job before bawwing his way back in.
He has always struck me as an arrogant, nasty/whiney, cult toady, with his nose well buried up Miscavige's crusty hole. A great spokes-person for the cult who has done nearly as much damage to It as the first wave of Anons did, only from the inside.
