The Lies and Deceit of the Church of Scientology

Injustice and betrayal are a part of our heritage. Those betrayed and who suffered injustices are the best people. They had the courage to speak out, and stand up. Almost all here try in their various ways to do this.

The quote below may not be popular with all, but the old bastard was no dummy. I think he nailed it here.

-----------

PRINCIPLES OF SCIENTOLOGY

The fate of any piece of knowledge man has ever been able to learn about himself, his society or this universe has [been to] sooner or later become subservient to some special interest with a curve on it to make more slaves. And this is one time when as long as I’ve got words in my mouth and breath in my thetan - this is one time that curve isn’t going to happen. And that’s all I want your help in. We want to make sure that what we know never comes to serve some special interest for the subjugation of man.

All Dianetics and Scientology attempts to do is to undo the magic spell which has made people less than they want to be. And to do that it requires that some truth be known. And that the central and principal truths of man be know, merely as truths - not as pitches and curves to serve some different reason or purpose. And that information is its own best protector. If it is itself, if it is what is known, if it is what has been learned, then it undoes its own spells. And the only possible excuse we have for training anybody, for processing anybody is that Dianetics and Scientology will undo Dianetics and Scientology. And that’s the first time known in the history of man that a subject, if it ever curved down, could also go up - that a subject undid itself. And that would be true knowledge.

We must never let what we know get into a state whereby it itself is a tremendous numbers of 'now-I’m-supposed-tos.'

L.Ron Hubbard, c59118c, Final Lecture

Thanks for the PR pep talk to the troops, reassuring them that their guru, L. Ron Hubbard, had "nothing up his sleeve."

So reassuring...

Around the time that Hubbard was saying these words to his trusting followers, he was also writing a long series of letters to the FBI. These letters, which take some time to read, combine paranoia with attempts at manipulation. Hubbard, apparently thought (at least through the 1950s), that he could trick the FBI (and others, including other government agencies, not included in these letters) into doing his bidding, into attacking his perceived enemies for him.

It wasn't unusual for Hubbard to "report" a Dianeticist or, later, Scientologist, in "good standing," to the FBI as a communist or suspected communist, or to the IRS as a tax cheat, etc. It was, it seems, regarded as a kind of preemptive strike against certain individuals whom he thought were about to betray him.

He also attempted to convince the FBI that the Russian KGB had offered him Pavlov's laboratory, and lots of money, and a plane ride to Russia, which, of course, he would refuse - well, he would if he was treated nicely (subtle hint) and the IRS stopped poking around his shady finances.

These are bizarre letters, and they reveal a mind, brilliant, paranoid, with supreme self-confidence in the ability to deceive and manipulate others.

Those that Hubbard attempted to deceive and manipulate included his own trusting followers, who knew that he would never do certain things to them, since, after all, he had warned them that the "enemy" might do those things, and - of course - he was their and Mankind's "greatest friend."

Hubbard's recurring letters the FBI stopped during the 1950s, when it became obvious that the FBI, and other government agencies, were not responding as desired to the wishes of the man who had written, to himself, only several years earlier:

"Your psychology is advanced and true and wonderful. It hypnotizes people. It predicts their emotions, for you are their ruler."

That was insane indeed! The information you are giving here is extremely valuable to me. I must tell you also how many times I was made to feel that I was insane for speaking out about the insanity that ensued...it was my "3rd dynamic case" that was in "restimulation.":dieslaughing:.. of course!

After a number of "sec checks" and endless ethics cycles... I still thought the it was a crazy and fucked up scene...more crazy and fucked up was the fact that I stayed till 2006:omg: I guess I still had faith that through our efforts, things would get better.

Sir, I remember the name Susan Beals...what was her post? It's been such a long time and some of the names/posts of those interesting characters are a hazy memory.

Tele,

I am delighted to have helped.

Too many good folks were railroaded into doubting their truth. And that is the damaging part of it. Not being able to get your truth duplicated is a sure way to get charged-up and "protesty" . . . and then the bastards blame you for being pissed!:duh:

It's the classic negative-processor, dominator trick. You'll experience this phenomena even when regular communication with regular people doesn't get duplicated. It's much worse when it is an important and vital truth you are trying to get across:yes:

And I am with you on the endeavor and belief we had that if we stuck to standard "tech" and policy, we'd get it to go right. What a betrayal that turned out to be!

After the first Sea Org mission to GOWW in late 1967 and to London March 1968 the option of getting it to go right with "standard Scn" went out the window for it was not being applied "at the top" . . . the SO was already into making everyone else wrong, no matter what. If you weren't "on purpose" with them (i.e. in the SO) you were out-eth, and to be targeted.:duh:

How often have you heard that line? "Off purpose: out-eth."

After the DM take-over with the Finance Police in 1982, there were only two ways to be "on-purpose" and "in-eth" . . . .be in the SO or keep paying mega amounts of money to the system!

Look at the events of history. Look at the stats of who is considered to be "in-eth"! Only those who come up with the "lolly," and those who can take it from you!

Tele, from my memory, when I collided with Suzanne Beales, she was either the Hubbard Area Sec, or Dir I&R, FOLO EUS to whom the Eth Officer Pedro Bossio reported.

In truth, I was actually officially credited with "spotting her"!:roflmao:

This came up just after my BofR was moved from New York to Clearwater. The missionaire who went in to sort NYC out wrote that I had done so, and it was as a commendation on me and to also remove the false reports she had put on me. He actually told me that my BofR in NYC had cleared me, but that it got canceled before the Board could write up the findings and recs. I'd also heard from the board itself that it had cleared me.

He also tried to get hold of the Clearwater BofR to get the info to them . . . . but failed.

Did it help? F**ck no!

But I'm glad I'm out . . . peace, calm and sanity reigns!

Yes, this is the way it was supposed to be . . and he may well have meant it and believed it in those days. 1959 was good tech days!

From what I can figure out, it appears the first betrayal of LRH was that event in HASI London 1960-1 when the folks he'd trusted with legal powers to run the show, according to Dennis Stephens, betrayed him and extorted money from him to buy back the corporate entity of the HASI.

It was claimed they were "communists" etc., etc.

That and the "betrayal" of the magazine article that roasted him, seems to have turned him negative against "all" others in general. It seems these events triggered his negative opponency to all in sight, and paranoia then ran rampant.

It was wonderful stuff as you cite here that kept many of us trying to fight the uphill battle of "make it go right."

I believe the first time LRH had problems with authority was from the AMA
back in the fifties, who I believe set various government agencies investigating
him. I'll see if I can dig up this info again, but maybe you know something about it.

There are copies of numerous letters to and from the director of the FBI
re Hubbard and Dianetics.
Approx 26 in 1951 alone. See URL below. This would pre dispose someone to paranoia no doubt. Something that just occurred to me is that I was wondering if Hubbard's letters to FBI complaining about " communists" was a
way of trying to create good PR for himself with that agency?

As I recall the Melbourne enquiry was initiated because of one person who
complained about something or other, being defrauded? But what other forces and initiatives were behind that?

The later "ban" of 1968 in the UK was ostensibly initiated by one person who was supposedly/actually type 3 and ran in her nightie to a police station
asking to be rescued.

I attended some of the court hearings at that time but can't remember much of any import other than the above. Though I was friends with a guy who was a witness. Alf Wilson if anyone remembers him.

I believe, and still do, that at that time injustice was wreaked against scientology. " Wog" justice in fact bore that out in Oz and the UK, to its credit. :)

Now I say bring it on with justice. :)

Without this AMA and FBI attack on Hubbard, I wonder how history
may have gone here?

FROM THE FILES OF THE FBI #119

May 29, 1953

SAC, Detroit (80-90)

Director, FBI

THE HUBBARD DIANETIC RESEARCH
FOUNDATION INCORPORATED
[BLACKED OUT]
RESEARCH (CRIME RECORDS)

Reurlet May 22, 1953, requesting information from Bufiles concerning captioned organization.

Bufiles reflect that the Hubbard Dianetic Research Foundation, Inc., was incorporated in April, 1950, in New Jersey to further the work of Lafayette Ron Hubbard, author, whose book "Dianetics" had been published two years previously. This organization reportedly went broke in New Jersey. An article appearing in the May 4, 1951, issue of "The Wichita Beacon," Wichita, Kansas, stated that this organization had recently established a national headquarters at 211 West Douglas Street, Wichita, Kansas.

The stated purpose of the Foundation is to "study and conduct research in the field of the human mind and of human thought in action" through the medium of "dianetics," which may be likened to psychotherapy with certain differences as to method and concept. In this connection, in March, 1951, the Board of Medical Examiners of the Department of Law and Public Safety, State of New Jersey, was taking to trial in the Union County District Court, Elizabeth, New Jersey, a case against the Foundation. The basis for the case was that the Foundation allegedly conducted a school teaching a branch of medicine and surgery without a license.

In regard to Hubbard himself, an inquiry was initiated on February 26, 1951, after information was received that he had been arrested in Chicago for kidnapping his wife and daughter and taking them out of the State of California. Since this was a family matter, the U.S. Attorney, Los Angeles, instructed that no investigation should be undertaken. The Los Angeles, California, "Times Herald," in its issue of April 24, 1951, related that Hubbard's wife accused him of subjecting her to scientific torture experiments. The new story reported that Mrs. Hubbard, in a divorce suit, claimed that Hubbard ws "hopelessly insane." Her complaint stated that "...the Hubbard Dianetic Research Foundation did more than $1,000,000 business in 1950."

NOTE: Above information was contained in Bufile 62-94080.

ELT:ps

[page 2]

Letter to SAC, Detroit ----- May 29, 1953

Hubbard had contacted the Bureau on several occasions to make complaints concerning his wife and the staff of his organization, stating that he believed them to be Communistically inclined. Allegations have also been made that the Foundation was of particular interest to sex perverts, hypochondriacs, and curiosity seekers.

Hubbard, by letter of March 3, 1951, wrote the Bureau advising that arrangements were being made to fingerprint his employees to file with the FBI. He was advised by letter of March 9, 1951, that the FBI had no authority to handle fingerprints with the exception of those received from bona fide law enforcement departments and Federal and state agencies. There is no indication in Bufiles of the Foundation being requested to discontinue dianetic processing in the District of Columbia.

Bufiles further reflect Hubbard also directed The Allied Scientists of the World. Among the many purposes of this organization was the goal of furnishing maximum protection to the people and culture of various countries against the threat of atomic war. This organization was investigated by the Post Office Department in 1952 for possible violation of mail fraud statutes.

Well, the AMA considered that Hubbard was a con-artist and fraud who was practicing medicine without a license.

I don't have any problem with auditing, but when you make medical claims, and claims about "states achieved", you're over the line.

Hubbard had problems with "psychs" before that. His venom about them was obvious in DMSMH.

They didn't start "the War". Ron did. They are largely not even aware of the existence of Scientology, nevermind of Hubbard. It's all in his mind, as usual.

FROM THE FILES OF THE FBI #97

[LETTERHEAD INFORMATION BLACKED OUT]

March 14, 1951

Federal Bureau of Investigation
Washington, D.C.

Gentlemen:

Snipped . . . . .

Terril,

Yep, good info this. It shows Hubbard definitely had cause to feel he was unjustly attacked by the “authorities.”

This suite by the “Board of Medical Examiners of the Department of Law and Public Safety, State of New Jersey, is probably the first and basic on the chain of attacks by the “establishment” . . . and it is likely that this NJ local board was simply a vehicle that had power to so act on behalf of a larger medical vested interest, like the AMA or Psychology establishment who, being only professional bodies, would not have the powers to harass with a suit.

Had Hubbard “worked with”--- that is, done a “paper” to be presented/published on establishment lines, and then set up his foundation to forward that work, they’d have loved him and left him alone. Instead he called everyone else idiots and told the establishment medicos they had it all wrong!! AND, positioned himself in THEIR game! But as superior to . . . .

Of course they had to prove him wrong!

The other side of the coin is that had he published DMSMH today, it would likely be a very best seller and no one would have attacked him. The climate is very different . . . alternatives to the establishment are even part of the establishment now!

Whatever the truths are concerning his claims made to the FBI of commie acts against him, I do not know. That he was certainly under attack from some quarters is certain, as revealed in your post.

As regards the attacks in Melbourne and the Mel Inquiry, well, you are making me consider posting a chapter of a book I was writing . . . It’s a number of pages, so it will need its own post or thread.

But, bottom line, the “campaign” against “the Scientologists” in Melbourne was begun in 1960! I remember it when I was on my HPA Course in April, 1960, in Mel. It began with press smears, falsehoods and lies about Scn and what it did.

Over the next couple of years, the noise and its source were changed to include a spokesman for the Catholic Church, one Dr. Rumble . . . also known as the “Red” Dr. Rumble locally as he had avowed sympathies for the communist/socialist propaganda and social structure. Also added to the mix of accusers was the local leader of the Psychiatric Assoc, and the Aust. Psychological Asoc. Then, the AMA, (Ozzie Med Assoc) joined in.

Timing wise, this was all brought to a crescendo for election year, 1963?, and then the left wing Labour Party of Victoria and its members of Parliament, in opposition to the governing Liberal Party, started to scream and agitate that “the Government” had done nothing to curb this “evil” of Scn.

The Government rightly answered, “What evil? There are no grounds to act!”

And so, a demand for and settlement on an “Enquiry” resulted.

It is to be noted that the Labour Party in those days stood on joint tickets with self declared communist members of the trade union on election tickets.

The Oz Labour Party in those days was somewhat dominated by the ultra-left wing socialist lot, as was the British Labour Party . . . the Brit end of it having known, self declared “Fabians” in its governing cabinet. The Fabian Party in England being commie/socialist but less strident than the out-and-out street mob types. They were more of the intellectual element of the international socialist force.

It was a long-term, well orchestrated campaign against the Scientologists . . . not the result of some claim of “fraud.” That claim, false, was part of the lie against the org on the basis that its practice was fraudulent.

What is true, is that the guy who “prosecuted” the case against the org during the Inquiry was indeed a criminal who had been indicted in Sth. Australia for fraud and extortion, but beat the charge because he married his secretary, and wives cannot testify in such matters. Name: Philip Wearne. In my book, I note that I coincidently rented offices vacated by Wearne, and collided with documentation to back up the nature and practice of his fraud.

He and the other person “carrying” the case against the church, one Doug Moone, had been on line getting services, and Moone actually for a period was on staff . . . presumably, it now appears, under cover for the enemy. He accessed confidential PC folders, and such info was used in the Inquiry to embarrass Scientologist witnesses, and our practices, and also factually used to blackmail witnesses into either not testifying or to testify against the org. Max Anderson was one who was subject to this blackmail, as I stated under oath as fact, as Max had told me so himself. Attempts were made to blackmail me on two fronts . . . I stood the bastards up and declared it in court!

And, there had been an effort to set me up in an embarrassing situation/relationship that would have been used against me . . . but which backfired on them

Max Anderson’s wife Jenny (this is the Max and Jenny I shared digs with, the same Max I wrote about in an earlier post with whom the physical universe vanished one night) propositioned me to have sex with her. I declined, gracefully, as a gentleman should. This then was turned around to be represented that I had tried to seduce her. This accusation came up in court . . . . but I blew them out of the water by pointing out the attempts at blackmail on me and the actual surrender to blackmail by Max . . . he was listed a member of Wearne’s “Committee Against Scn” (or such). Max had been turned.

But my mate Panda may have even more nitty-gritty on these little nuances than me, as he had to study it all . . . I only lived my part in it.

London was a similar scene.

The press attacks, and the attacks from academia, had begun at least about two years before the UK “ban” late in 1968. These press and academia attacks, just as in Oz, were the set up and first blast of the orchestrated attack on Scn in England. Indeed there was an effort to do a UK parliamentary trick on Scn based on and using the Melbourne report as a basis and need for action. Fortunately, the Brit sense of fair play, or laziness, only took it as far as a ban on students coming to study Scn.

Indeed, university students (London Uni was just a couple of blocks from the org) used to come into my PE/Intro Lectures to purposefully interrupt and ridicule.

This is the shit I wrote of in an earlier post on how I handled these interjecting trouble-makers that Nexus rudely responded to with invalidation of me and my handling . . . it would have been brighter of him to have enquired as to the circumstances and what it was I was actually handling. But then, he has his “viewpoints,” heh!

As to the “type 3” chick running into a police station . . . . hmmm, I heard some rumor about such, but it was not anyone that had been on lines to my knowledge.

What is fact is that an unknown male in his mid-twenties (not even been to a PE lecture to my knowledge, and I did them all) presented himself into the org wanting to be on staff. They sent him up to me, as Div 6 needed staff. I took one look at this bozo and rejected him (which is my right per policy). The guy just wasn’t there in or with his head. He was, to me, obviously on some kind of drugs, medicinal or otherwise, that were affecting his spiritual presence and demeanor. Real bad vibes.

I also recognized the “plant” type synthetic, deceitful presence he had. I’d been tricked by one in Sydney in 1960.

Three days later he came back in the org, was hanging abut for a while, and suddenly goes into a raving fit. He’s out in terms of awareness and sanity, writhing and tossing on the floor. I happened to be present, and tried to do a very basic assist on him to calm him down but he was too psyched out. We called an ambulance, and had him taken away.

I smelled a plant. It had all the markers of a planted, agent provocateur, sent in to cause a scene for bad publicity.

Fact is, I later had as one of my “agents” working with us in the “007 business” the key Fleet Street reporter who had been writing and placing most of, and certainly the most scurrilous and sensational, of the anti-Scientology articles in the press at that time in 1966-69 . . . . and we are talking top circulation national press. I won’t mention names, as I believe he is still alive in England. He’s a friend. Fact is he was also an intel operative for British intel. He came to us in 1973. (He did some wonderful and lucrative work for us!)

The other fact is that the FBI was injecting its bad shit on Scn to British intelligence in that period 1966 onwards, possibly even earlier. How do I know? The guy who was the “Legal Attaché” at the US Embassy (actually an FBI Special Agent) who was passing the info to the Brits is another friend of mine here in the US. Name: Bill Kish.

When I came to the US and first met Bill, I in due course was interested in having him take over my position in the business when I moved out. His resume showed his position at the London Embassy at the critical time. And we had a good long chat about our relative positions at that time 1966-69.

Bill is a very decent man, one dedicated to his ideals and the job he was doing. And he apologized to me when he found out I had been at the receiving end of the shit after I told him the true scene.

I told him, “The Scientologists are not the enemy, Bill. They’re the good guys. The real enemy are the guys who got you Americans to be feeding all that false shit the Brits!”

He looked at me apologetically, and said, “Well, you know that kind of stuff goes on Rog. I’m sorry it was bad info. I never even looked at the stuff. It comes in, and I send it out. It was just all traffic at the time.”

I told him, all was OK between us. I knew he was just doing his job based on the info he had.

So I write this to point out that there certainly were planned and deliberate attacks by vested interests on Scientology.

Roger

Looking forward to that other post you mention  :drama:

Except that LRH was advertising that Dianetics and Scientology would cure your arthritis, your bad eyesight and many many other diseases. He also claimed that it cured him of being "blinded and crippled" from combat in World War II.

LRH fraudulently claimed all kinds of cures for diseases since the very beginning.

Hubbard was running a shady operation from the beginning. The finances were shady. The fraudulent claims. While many of the drugs that Hubbard used were pharmaceuticals, others were illegal. And then there were those relentless letters to the FBI (and various government agencies) accusing others of being communists, and making outrageous claims, such as being a nuclear physicist, or being offered Pavlov's laboratory in Russia.

1955, from a letter to the FBI: "There were 200 foundation employees in 1950."

1969, from a confidential Intelligence issue for selected Scientologists: "There were 1000 foundation employees in 1950."

1955 (same letter): "The employees were independently screened."

1969 (same Intel issue): "The FBI approached the foundation and asked to screen its staff."

1955 (same letter): "There were 35 communist connected persons."

1969 (same Intel issue): "There were 252 communists or communist sympathizers."

From the 1938 'Skipper letter', where Hubbard described his secret plan whereby he would leave his mark (smash his name, etc.), to his 'Affirmations', to letters from the 1950s, the fraudulent 1955 'Russian Textbook on Psycho-politics' (which "explained" to Scientologists why Scientology was being "attacked"), the "ruin utterly"-policy and intolerance for criticism expressed in the 1955 'Manual On Dissemination', the 1959 'Manual of Justice', and on and on, Hubbard would seem to have deserved his "appears mental" designation, written on the stack of his 1950s letters to the FBI.

The loyal Scientologists, excited by a new technique every week, by a refreshingly innovative science of spirituality, by their leader's charisma, were bombarded with tall tales and tricks by the person that they regarded as Mankind's greatest friend.

Every inquiry by a newspaper or government was seen as part of the greater effort to destroy Mankind's only hope, and Hubbard's exploitation of his followers idealism was shameless.

No wonder it's taking years to sort it out.

Terril,

Yep, good info this. It shows Hubbard definitely had cause to feel he was unjustly attacked by the “authorities.”

I believe you have posted more information on this than is available on the net. Would also love to hear Panda's comments. I did read a letter on the net from the AMA saying something to the effect that Hubbard/ dianetics
needed dealing with. Not sure if I can find that one again. But this seems to be standard procedure for the AMA.

Having heard lots of internal COS PR re attacks, which especially now I take with a pinch of salt, yours is as I recall the only comment from one involved on the net and a credible voice.

Terril,

Had Hubbard “worked with”--- that is, done a “paper” to be presented/published on establishment lines, and then set up his foundation to forward that work, they’d have loved him and left him alone. Instead he called everyone else idiots and told the establishment medicos they had it all wrong!! AND, positioned himself in THEIR game! But as superior to . . . .

Of course they had to prove him wrong!

Its unlikely Hubbard even forsaw the success of DMSMH. He was being deliberately iconoclastic and in a sense that may have been part of the reason for his success. Also he worked very quickly, intuitively, and per rigorous scientific method rather sloppily. So he covered ground very quickly and had to go back and fine tune very often.

The other side of the coin is that had he published DMSMH today, it would likely be a very best seller and no one would have attacked him. The climate is very different . . . alternatives to the establishment are even part of the establishment now!

Yes, one of my Freezone friends is a practicing psychologist and has attended shamanistic workshops wearing that hat.

As regards the attacks in Melbourne and the Mel Inquiry, well, you are making me consider posting a chapter of a book I was writing . . . It’s a number of pages, so it will need its own post or thread.

Party on dude, and if you can get supporting testimony from others for the book even better. :)

As to the “type 3” chick running into a police station . . . . hmmm, I heard some rumor about such, but it was not anyone that had been on lines to my knowledge.

I can't recall what of this is internal COS PR or what I heard at the court hearing. She had started a comm course. She had not very good relations with her mum. Can't recall reasons. One night she ran away to a police station to seek sanctuary from her mum. Her mum turned up with men in white coats and she was put into an asylum. COS was supposed to be the bad guys. I can't recall what this court case was about exactly. I presume it was after the ban, but related to that issue. Can't remember who "won".
Should be available in court records somewhere but I have no idea how to find it.

More info on all this would be good to see. Hope you've opened a little floodgate.

Then how has the resulting paranoia of both LRH and the GO coloured later matters.

Well, mate, I've not done a search of the net to see what's there on it, so I don't know what's out there. What I have posted is simply what I personally have seen and experienced.

I have no angst either way. Hubbard had his good points and his bad points. My personal position is that of endeavouring to have a balanced view of it all; to simply see exactly who did what and who didn't, and to rescue from the chaos any worthwhile lessons and knowledge.

As to the AMA, the bastards certainly are criminal; and they certainly have and did engage in criminal conspiracies to suppress that which they thought was a threat to its "healing monopoly." These facts proven in Court. Here is a brief write up of the AMA's convictions (this extracted from my book):

In 1943, the AMA was convicted of criminal violation of U.S. anti-trust laws for its attempt to destroy an innovative and cost-cutting healthcare system in Washington D.C. It is one of a number of such convictions. In 1982, when the AMA was again found guilty of systematic violation of anti-trust laws, the U.S. Department of Justice told the Supreme Court, “The AMA’s long history of illegal behavior strongly supports the need for a remedy to reverse the effects of the restraints of trade they have imposed.” The Administrative Law Judge who presided in the case ruled that the AMA had:

“. . . served to deprive consumers of the free flow of information about the availability of healthcare services, to deter the offering of innovative forms of health care and to stifle the rise of almost every type of health care delivery that could potentially pose a threat to the income of fee-for-service physicians in private practice. The cost to the public in terms of less expensive or even, perhaps, more improved forms of medical services are great.”

And on August 27, 1987 the AMA was found guilty of having entered into and carried out an illegal conspiracy, of twenty-five years duration, to suppress and destroy the practice of chiropractic. The facts in this case are damning. It was demonstrated that after the AMA became aware of the efficacy of chiropractic, and that it had surpassed osteopathy as the second most numerous group of primary care health providers in 1962, the AMA then began its conspiracy, “and with the full knowledge and continued support of their executive officers, the AMA paid the salaries and expenses for a team of medical doctors, lawyers and support staff for the expressed purpose of conspiring (overtly and covertly) with others in medicine to first contain, and eventually, destroy the profession of chiropractic in the United States and elsewhere.”

Yep, 'tis so. He was flamboyant, to say the least.

It is possible, of course, that the very nature of his insouciance and iconoclastic style is what attracted the early folks it did. Had it been "academic," we old-time characters would possibly have been bored shitless and gone nowhere near it! :dieslaughing:

The 1950's vintage Dianeticists and Scio's were are non-conformist lot, for sure!

Society needed a rebellion then: Scientology needs a rebellion NOW! :woohoo:

Well, the book isn't about Scn, nor the Mel Inquiry. It's the true story of what I've been doing this lifetime. Scn just happens to be a section of it that has been part of my endeavour; though a very critical part of it.

I started writing it in 1990 when I decided the church wouldn't get honest and straight through use of its own doctrines. The book simply states the truth about that part of my history: the good, bad and ugly.

The title of the book is, "A Conjunction of Stars, and the Saving of Planet Earth"

It's about all the good folks aligning, coming together to save planet Earth as a biosphere . . . in other words, to save the game of life here.

ESMB is a huge part of that alignment . . . take a win you good guys!

The Scn part relates to how I first became spiritually aware to the extent of perceiving as I do.

The main thrust of the book is that the way vested interests and human aberration has gone to date, we are close to doing irreparable damage to the viability of the planet as a biosphere.

Example: most folks don't know that the oceans used to recycle 50% of the CO2 back to breathable oxygen. It's the phytoplankton that do it.

During the 1980's I became aware that something was out vis a vis that oxygen recycling process in the oceans. Screw the loss of "rain forests" everyone yapped on about. That was bad, but repairable.

When I looked, I found we'd knocked off the top of the food chain in the oceans. One example: baleen whales feed on zoo-plankton. We've knocked off 95-97% of the baleen whales. The resulting over-population of zoo-plankton have gobbled up the phytoplankton (which is their food). This process is true on other ocean food chains as well. We've decimated the predator shoal fish at the top of their food chains as well.

In 1990, I went to Woods Hole Oceanographic Inst. to see what they knew. They were totally ignorant of the issue, and had no measurements at all of plankton population change.

In March, 1995, The Scripps Oceanographic Research Institute, published a report showing they found an eighty percent (80%) loss of plankton in a key test area of the Pacific during the last forty years. It verified my spiritual perceptions.

The book is about getting all this fixed :melodramatic:

So, to be honest, any angst about the Church of Scn is actually small beer and potatoes for me:yes:

Ahh, well, 1967-8 is now rather ancient history, so the "lady running away from her mum to the police" story is now really lost to antiquity. :confused2:

Well, for those interested, I hope it has opened a floodgate. I have simply reported facts I have witnessed so folks can have a better and more balanced view of the troubled history we went through. From what I have seen on this thread, a lot of charge and upset has been relieved, and insights and alignment of truths have occurred.

And on your valid point: "Then how has the resulting paranoia of both LRH and the GO coloured later matters."

The tragedy, and it is a lesson of history as well, is that any suppressed and abused group of peoples react with equal or greater abuse against their perceived enemies or abusers when they have the power to do so . . . and this is what the church has done.

The tragedy is that it became criminal in doing so. But that is a lesson of history also:yes:

On one of my visits to Flag, probably on my trip to do the OT Drug R/D as an audited NOTs completion in 1981 (maybe), I remember one of those wonderful PR events by the GO telling us all about how they had retained a wonderful attorney, who’d taken on and won a number of cases against “the government” to represent MSH in her trial that resulted from what was found in the 1977 LA raid by the FBI.

We were all hyped by the “shore story,” the phony PR.

Then, it might have been on a subsequent visit, we heard that our “wonderful” attorney had done a deal with the judge to agree that MSH, as a respectable grandmother and to spare the court a prolonged trial and any contention, would agree not to contest any of the “evidence” which was “only circumstantial” and not conclusive, in exchange for a minimum sentence if the courts found her guilty.

Then in a subsequent briefing, we are told that MSH had been betrayed by the judge, as he found her guilty and given her the maximum sentence! And we will be appealing the case!!! Yes Sir!

My dates are rusty here as I was so often at Flag doing various services, the dates between the beginning of 1981 and the middle of 1982 are a blur.

In the middle of 1982, I was asked by a contact of mine to meet with Diana Hubbard at Flag.

The MSH Appeal was coming up, and Diana was sure that there had been violations on the part of the prosecution (either the FBI or the Attorneys General) during the bringing of the case against her mother. She was sure there had been illegal wire taps on either her mother or her attorney. The government, she said, “would do anything to get either her mother or her farther.”

Diana wanted me to do an assignment for her and her mother personally.

She wanted me to get the evidence, proof, that the prosecution had violated the law in its conducting of the case against her mother. That, she felt, would enable her mother to win her appeal case.

“Does the GO or anyone else know anything about this? That you’re taking this action? Are they doing anything?” I asked.

“No.” And she said it rather distastefully as she referred to the official lines of the church we were referring to. “They got her into this mess!”

With benefit of 20/20 hindsight, I have a hypothesis of what was really going on.

1981-82 was also when David Miscavige was plotting his takeover of of the Church. One rather huge obstacle would be Mary Sue. In any contest between DM and MSH among public scientologists and org staff, MSH would win. MSH had been trusted for decades as LRH's wife and second-in-command. People would say "Who is this Miscavige joker?"

For any takeover of Scientology to be successful, MSH would need to be eliminated from the scene.

Putting her in jail for a long time would be an effective way to remove her from the scene, take her off the lines, and allow her reputation and memory to be discredited.

Then you come along and are seen as threatening to disrupt the whole plot. Naturally, you need to be eliminated from the scene. Notice who was attacking you -- the Int Finance Police, which at the time of the attack on you was under the control of DM. See the Jesse Prince Supplemental Declaration:
23. This activity continued in other locations, executed by the
International Finance Police under the direction of the International
Finance Dictator located in the Commodore's Messenger Organization
International. All of this was under the dictatorship of Miscavige.

As soon as you were seen as being on the trail, all these attacks were made against you, with the objective of keeping you too busy defending yourself to be able to pull any strings

TP, yep. Bossio is/was an insane mad dog.

When I was doing my BofR in FOLO EUS it was he and his boss Suzanne Beales that got a hold of me and put me through their version of the "new tech." The bastard was actually writing false data into the session/interview report. I called him on it, of course.

As it happened the chairman of my BofR was the Flag Rep FOLO EUS . . . so I got various skinny on the local scene. I pointed out that the area was PTS, and delineated the visible and obvious indicators. He actually had a cognition on it!!:duh:

It is to be noted that the BofR I requested was because I refused to accept the findings of having been found guilty of spurious, stupid stuff after the two prior Comm Evs, and assigned a "Condition of Confusion" following the Larson debacle. I was not declared at that stage.

Then, as a result of being pulled is as a separate, off line, extraneous action for a HCO handling . . . nothing to do with my BofR . . . . can you believe this shit? There I was for a BofR, and these dogs Beales and Bossio grab me because I am visible and doing things to help various folks . . . and am subject to the new R/D.

I won't get into the details of the shit . . . but I recognize Suzanne Beales as violating everything in sight and as the source of caving the area in. Even Bossio was puppet to her.

Standard procedure: I wrote up my observations and sent it up lines.

Guess what? It was found out that Beales had already earlier been declared a Suppressive Person in DC and routed off lines, but then "somehow or other" (were the words used in the next Goldenrod on her) managed to route herself back into the SO and on staff as the HAS in FOLO EUS!

I give you this simply to convey the extent of the insanity and unbelievable scenario that then existed in the area and today still exists on "org lines."

Rog

It seems more likely that, rather than "route herself back into the SO and on staff as the HAS in FOLO EUS!", she was recruited and placed there by the DM faction.

Consider her situation: she was declared and tossed out in the cold. Then somebody, operating under DM orders, offers her a chance to redeem herself. She gets placed in a high position in the FOLO, and given the mission of being DM's eyes and ears in EUS. (The job was probably actually phrased as "being on the lookout for traitors and spies", and she thought she was working a secret mission for CMO Int). Her declare (for people who might have heard about it) was dismissed with a shore story of "Oh, that was an illegal local declare and had no validity".

Once there, she needs to do as she's told by her handlers, or she's back out in the cold. And if the execution of the verbal orders she's given cause too much of a flap, it's easy enough to disavow her: "Oh, she was a renegade who managed to destroy her files. Not quite sure how it happened, but we've taken steps that it won't happen again".

It goes to the heart of "How do you take an organization that is predominantly staffed by kind, honest, well-meaning people, and make it act suppressive?"

The answer is, you get people in key places who can convince people they are doing good while they are destroying people.

The 1980's NY scene

Hi Roger, it was a pleasure meeting you at the FZ convention.:)

I was staff at the NY org in the late 1970's to mid 1980's, first in Div 6 and then as lead HGC auditor, and I knew Ron Haugen and Pedro Bossio, and to some degree, most of the Sea Org and G.O. (and then OSA) staff.

Mostly I knew Pedro before he was trained to do that suppressive "ethics" stuff, in fact I remember auditing Pedro one time. I thought he was a nice guy, right up until I found out that he's routed my teenage stepson out of the CLO and onto the streets of New York City without ever bothering to inform myself or his mother, both of us staff at the time. I mean, we found out weeks later, and didn't know where he was or how he survived. I don't know what Pedro might have said or done to make this child not come to us when this happened. When I confronted Pedro about this, he just smiled rather insanely and told me the young boy was "a crim" (SO slang for "criminal, I found out". Bizarre and psychotic.

Ron Haugen was a strange bird too, always seemed to have an uncomfortable forced smile, and the few times I heard him speak, his remarks tended to be non-sequitor and off-color. I remember him routing out and (unsuccessfully) demanding a few intensives of auditing for the time he put in as staff. You've got a hell of a story there Roger, and I'm afraid I believe every word of it.

Best, Dex

One additional point about Roger's Don Larson incident: part of Mission Tech is the art of misdirection. LRH called it "the dagger in the ceiling", giving as an example putting a dagger in the ceiling to focus everybody's attention on that, and away from the real purpose of your mission. This is particularly important with Observation missions, to reduce the tendency of your presence altering the behavior that you're trying to observe.

In Roger's case, I strongly suspect the real purpose of the Don Larson mission was to smoke out opinion leaders who would not bow to arbitrary authority. These would be put on a list of people who needed to be purged in advance of DM seizing power.

The reason why Pedro didn't tell you is he was more concerned about the thing pulling you off of production and affecting org stats, than on whether your stepson survived.

This is the sort of sociopathic behavior that would have put me into a rage. It looks like Pedro caved him in completely. Did you ever find your stepson?

Enthetan! LOVE the name! That's what I used to call myself when I was on staff in Boston, and people really didn't appreciate my humor: except for Chris Emerson and Jim Auger. That's why I loved those guys!
