Last Tuesday, I went shopping at Trader Joes. Among other things, I purchased sliced almonds which come in a plastic or cellophane pouch. All my groceries fit into one large papger bag and I unloaded the bag when I got home, thinking that I put the nuts into my refrigerator. Thursday morning I made oat meal and went to get the bag of almonds to sprinkle them over my oat meal. To my surprise I could not find the almonds in my frig. It is a small frig, just standard apartment sized. I spent about 3 minutes looking everywhere in my frig, on the shelves inside the door, each large shelf and all the bins. That night, I wanted some almonds and decided to look again but still no almonds.

I thought maybe I left them in the bag I brought home. I went out to the trash bin and found the bag but there were no nuts in it. On Friday, I was in the pharmacy and they did not have almonds but they had walnuts so I decided to buy those instead and ate some on Friday and also Saturday morning.

Last night, Saturday, around 2:00 am I was writing on this thread and decided to go to bed but first decided to have a small snack, just a few raisins and a couple of pieces of walnuts before I went to bed. I was sleepy and not too alert and got up from my computer and walked to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator door and saw a plastic bag on one of the shelves of the inner door. I reached in and grabbed the plastic bag without looking at it and then got a carton of raisins from my cupboard and went back to the computer to eat the small snack of walnuts and raisins.

To my utter astonishment, the plastic bag I had in front of me was the unopened bag of ALMONDS!!! I was just shocked. I spent 3 or 4 minutes on two different occasions looking for the almonds in the frig in vain. Now, three days later, half asleep, I just reached into the frig, saw a plastic bag and without even looking at it, I selected the bag of almonds!

I still do not know how that happened or how it is possible. It is as if the almonds dematerialized for 3 days and then somehow rematerialized inside of my frig. Either that or perhaps my kids are correct and Alzheimer's disease is setting in. The incident just does not make any sense.

If there is any comfort in knowing you are not alone in these matters, I offer my condolences and own experience. Yes, it happens to me, too. :duh:

I have a habit of squirreling away some things that I don't want to lose. Later when I wish to retrieve the item, I can't remember what I did with it or where I put it. I guess I am a bit of a squirrel. They don't know where they bury nuts, you know. They just bury nuts. When they dig up a nut it could be from any squirrel's hiding.

But what about those things that I know I did not bury? Yep, they sometimes go missing, too. And I have had an item turn up in an odd place, like the fridge, where I have already looked repeatedly.

It makes for an interesting lead-in to an investigation of perception vs reality--something I continue to work on having no conclusion forthcoming.

In a recent exchange with my eye doc, I told him I could read the bottom line in question, but it wasn't because I could clearly see it. It was because I could figure out what it was. His reply was that eye exams figure 20% was a brain function as opposed to an eye function. I guess my brain function in that regard has always been above the average 20% as I have always been a good ball player--even to this day--but my eyesight has always been less than good, even long before I started wearing glasses, long after my ball playing days were over.

Where am I going with this? Well, if the brain plays an important role in seeing--and it does--it behooves us to do what we can through nutrition, processing, and whatever other means available. Doing something out of the ordinary helps the brain: Take up math if you haven't in many years. Study art if you have never. Scrabble and crossword puzzles are excellent exercises. I would add that oogling women's breasts is a great exercise, but I think that's just to add longevity per a recent report I read out of Germany, not for the brain, maybe for the heart and soul. The report did not say that about heart and soul. That's an assumption on my part. I shall further investigate and let you know what I find.

Yeah thanks Ted, thats right on, scn is littered with head talk, i also have seen it in the ethics book too, arent ideals love above ethics or the greatest good, apparently not.

Alot of Scios ive known had the deep love to help and then the love was squashed , a stark world just like the tree on SOS.I guess thats what is ,an SOS.

The cold hard truth of clinical observation. He did say it was a science.

I also see the truth in what you say about the good auditors, who probably grew up in a very loving family, that loving ,just ,compassionate foundation makes the difference. That IS THE true reality feeling warmth, intimacy.

I didnt ever hear Ron say if his mother and father loved him dearly.

The more i see the more i see.great quote that> The heart can be reasoned right out of existence.
1

Ron did talk a little about family of origin stuff, about his relationship with his Father in one lecture I recall...he felt he was "forced" to become an engineer (maybe the hidden motivator why he failed in college) instead of being and artist, which is what he really wanted to be.

Also reported a yelling match with his Father as a young child about control, where he got his Dad to back down. I don't really care to listen again, but maybe somebody else can identify which lectures? Doesn't really matter...just allusions that all was not peace and harmony at home when he was growing up. I think, given his character disorder/mental illness/whatever you want to classify it as, he must have been a handful and a problem for his family even when younger.

Years ago I had an ulcer and was put onto taking aluminium hydroxide for it. It buggered my memory completely while I was on it. There was one incident where I drove into the city (Cape Town) and parked my car. After doing what I had to do - about 2 or 3 hours of things - and I wanted to go back to the car. For the life of me I could not temember where it was. I was totally dumbfounded. Racking my brains was of no avail. In the end I had to walk that city centre flat going along every street and parking lot until I found the car. And when I did I still had no recall of parking it there. It was horrible. I knocked off the Alu Hydrox right there. Refused to have more of it ever.

Yep, and this is the reason you should not use aluminium cookware nor any cosmetics/deodorants with it . . . the aluminium KO's the calcium ion exchange in the brain . . . among other things.

My old guru Myra Louise told me of this in 1964 . . . she was onto healing folks of their brain and central nervous system ills by getting them off aluminium cookware and using homeopathic bio-chemical cell salts.

She was also way ahead of the curve on mercury in amalgam dental fillings.

The girl was a genius.

Hey, the party looks great, lots of smiling faces! Great to see more people "joining up" together in the horsey sense, as Monty Roberts would use it. (Not as in joining a cult, for all you lurkers! :coolwink:) Looks like a real nice gathering... Hope Aida's remodeling work goes smoothly.

Really nice to fill in the CC history a little bit more closely and get some further information on that, well done!

Regarding the disappearing almonds, and lost parked cars, etc. these kinds of things happen to us all, trust me! :p When I get time, I will share some stories! :happydance:

I like FoTi's flower on the car...I used to have some things like that too. A foam saguaro cactus, Disney pirate antenna ball, etc. Most newer cars don't have antennas! :bigcry: No fun! Let's all decorate life more, and individualize things more!

Ted, you and me must be related :D...I not only carry stuff around with me in my purse, etc. (car is a big tote bag on wheels) I also squirrel things away...find peoples old Christmas or birthday presents that I didn't give them, etc. In some ways it's kind of fun because I find treasures I didn't know I had...but frustrating because I can't always lay hands on what I want really quickly because it is packed away somewhere...I end up having tools like scissors and staplers in multiples and in different locations where I am going to be working with them...especially in my art studio where there is a lot of creative clutter! Oh well!

I loved the story of the missing almonds! :D I really don't think it's Alzheimer's. I do hope Lakey that you have started taking COQ10 along with your statin drug, talk with your Doctor about this, as statins are known to cause some cognitive dysfunction, short term memory loss, difficulty focusing and following through on tasks etc.. COQ10 is relatively cheap and over the counter and will help to offset those side effects of the statins.

Just plain old stress, which we all have in oncoming and receding waves at different times will cause short-term memory loss. It's best just to laugh at oneself when these kinds of events happen. They happen to us all!

Carmelo, there is something very satisfying about frying food, very stimulating to the senses and I find it relaxing, too. Too bad fried foods are bad for us... I fry with mostly Canola oil now. It's a clear cut process that you get immediate sensory feedback from and a great, concrete end product, and where you have total control. I get it! I think it's nurturing, too. Your craving fish: need more protein or are dehydrated? I hope your wife and son are doing better.

Sometimes I cook primarily for the stress reduction of the creative process. It works! Meyer lemons are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy, and cook for and feed each other! :D

I really admire the people who are and can stay organized. Their homes always look like they are ready for an Architectural Digest photo shoot. Me? I am apt to sleep with all the books and magazines I would like to read. What a mess. :eyeroll: I am apt to surround myself with projects that are both interesting and incomplete. I am a helluva product officer. I need an organizing officer and a staff to get everything done.

But... That ain't gonna happen. :whistling:

When I organize I still lose stuff because there are others who see items on the shelf as if they are in a store of freebies for the taking. Batteries? Forget it. They aren't going to last--gone when I need one or two. Tools? Forget it. Tools will never return to their organized location. I love that Op Pro By Dup command: "Put it down in exactly the same place." Come on people, is that so hard?

Inquiring Minds Want to Know...

Those people who talk fast in run-on sentences, never pausing, never giving any indication that a period exist in their universe, how do they breathe? Are they actually space aliens that don't need to breathe?

They are the same ones who give you half a sentence then take a sudden turn into a completely different subject only to leave you hanging in wait for the full concept or answer. I have actually redirected the conversation back to the hanging subject only to have the person reflect off it and carry on with something else. Do they ever relax or does their mind go like this even as they sleep?

My sentiments, exactly!

I hate it when my Sweet Virginia tidies up "for" me! I can't find a bloody thing after it . . . be good if she told me she was going to deal with my space, I could then make with a defense strategy:p

She thinks my office is untidy . . . Iv'e barred her from it :D Now that's a strategy :p

She says, "How do you find anything in it?"

My attitude is this: Yes, my office is untidy, but like my mind, which is also untidy, it works and works wonderfully well! Hands off! :p

Defense strategy, yes, that's what I need.

Oh, wait! I have one. It's organizing to me; looks like disorder to everyone else.

Yep. That's it. Disorderly organized.

Seems to me like most men sort of tend toward disorderly organized, while most women sort of tend toward orderly organized. :p

I think a man and a woman should each have their own end of the house - their own territory - and then meet up in the middle somewhere.

From the male perspective, women can be DISorderly organized. I say that because the man has to go, "WTF did you do with my_______!?"

It's a trap I say, it's a trap that makes a man dependent on the woman. Y'all already have half the money in the world and all of something else. What more do you want.

As for a house divided in half, never happens. Half of a closet is a microcosm of half the house. I get a small rack and a shelf; the wifey gets all the rest.

But, truth be told, I never minded in the least.

Well, if this were happening here in So Cal, I would tend to think first of these possibilities:

1. They are on speed, meth, Ritalin or some other stimulant drug. :hyper:  :dizzy:

2.They are in a manic phase of a possible bi-polar illness. :buzzin: :hysterical:

3. They are living with undisclosed ADD or ADHA and bouncing around off the walls feels normal to them. :sing: :runaround: :dance3:

or

4. Waaaaay too much caffeine! :coffee: :spitcoffee: :bwahaha:

Your reality and demographics may vary... :coolwink:

Yes, you can also add the fact that some folks are just simply irresponsible and uncaring about their communication.

It indeed it's irresponsibility for the receiver, their fellows.

You even see it here on ESMB . . . one-liner incomplete constructs . . . no prepositions, no caps, no or erroneous punctuation, no linking transitions . . . you are left to wonder WTF are they actually saying/meaning.

Either that, or one can add that they're too bloody lazy to care . . . some obviously never re-read or proof read their posts :duh:

An old explanation from Hubbard is that they are afraid of being effect, so the compulsive outflow coupled with no listening, no actual communication.

Still... "Come up for air, Dude!"

Among other things & as S&L previously alluded, it is a common indicator of the likely presence of a lifelong mood disorder.

Well.....wifey usually has a lot more clothes and shoes and stuff that goes in a closet (this is so they can look good for their husband), so for cosmetic, aesthetic and looking sexy purposes :flirt: they NEED the lions share of the closet. :p See? :wiggle:

This is a GREAT strategy!

I once visited a couple that I thought had an ideal living arrangement. They had their master bedroom with a HUGE bed to lounge and roll around in. On one side of the master bedroom was another room for him - his office with a couch, piano (they were musicians), hobbies, etc. with his own dressing room and bathroom, on the other side of the master bedroom was another room for her...her office with her own lounge, banjo, music, sewing, etc and her own dressing room and bathroom. Of course, it takes a little money to live like this, but I thought this was the most ideal arrangement I'd ever seen for two people to enjoy their lives together and not get in each other's hair.....at least in this area of their lives. Each one had a private place they could retreat to to do their own thing, take a nap, write music, be creative or whatever in peace without their spouse or kids running through the room and interrupting them.

They also had a fantastic playroom for their very small children. It was really big with a vinyl floor. All the kids toys were in this room and each child had a bed against a wall and all their clothes were kept there. They could ride their tricycles, play ball and skate all over the room when they played inside without damaging anything. They could eat in there, spill food or paints or whatever and it would be very easy to clean up. They could make all the noise they wanted day or night without disturbing their parents because their room was behind the kitchen - the kitchen, living room and a sitting room was between the couple's suite and the children's room. The couple owned several night clubs which didn't close until 2am, so they came home very late and if they wanted to play music or have guests in at that hour, it didn't disturb the children sleeping.

I thought this house was the greatest arrangement I ever saw for a young family.....it suited everyone's needs. And of course, they had help in the house for the kids and to take care of the home so that things ran very smoothly and everyone could get enough sleep and also have time to have fun with their friends and family. A nice way to live if one can afford it. :)

I remember another couple that built their own home back in the 60's specifically for having a family. It was a large house...modern...very open...and the first floor was all vinyl and all the cupboards were built with catches on them so that little ones couldn't get into them. The furniture was very plain and simple and they had no knick knacks around for the kids to break. The kids could ride their tricycles and skate all over the first floor without damaging anything or getting into trouble.

All the way around the outside of the house was a screened in cement walkway about 10 feet wide, so that the children could be outside and ride their bikes, skate and play ball or chase each other around, but still protected..... because they lived in Florida in an area where there were a lot of copperheads and they didn't want the little ones out in the yard alone where they might get bit.....and this kept snakes and other critters away from the house. They also had a lot of comfortable chairs on the walkway so that people could sit outside or eat outside without getting bit up by mosquitoes or having to mess with wasps or other bugs. It was a great house to enjoy easy living and have fun with family and friends.

I should have been an architect. :eyeroll:
