I don't. You're too cryptic. :)

Had a conversation with someone today who is very recently into politics
from an odd direction. I commented that I was suprised that the west had taken so long to do anything re Libya. he said the west was on Libya's side.

Looks like they have changed. My thought is that they would support whichever side controlled the oil.

This person also said that the Libyan Rebels were winning in Libya. This is
the opposite of what we are informed by news media.

Reminds me of the outing by US government person " Scooter" Libby of
Valerie Plame Wilson, CIA agent, because her husband demolished the claim of an african country sourcing uranium to Iraq for WMD.

The movie about this, " Fair Game", with Naomi Watts and Sean Penn is excellent. Is accurate to what I recall I read on this.

Ok, I put a little more on the post.
Vice President (with Bush) Cheney's assistant did "out" a CIA agent vindictively. I don't think that is relevant.

My information has ben coming largely from the BBC World Service and America's National Public Radio (NPR).

the source / no source comes from the power processes (but even in Scientology can be traced into the 1950s.

"Tell me a source."

"Tell me a no source."

Basically, what I'm saying is because the US, which, since the end of WWll, has been the leader in minding other peoples' business on the world scene, decided not to unilaterally handle or lead in a war scenario.

This created a vacuum.

Other nations had to originate. They actually had to be a part of the creation of a solution.

The Wikileaks revelations of Arab states pushing for and backing US military actions behind the scenes, while publicly criticizing US actions was enlightening.

Secretary of Defense Gates pointedly distanced the military from desiring to go to war last week.

The US became a non source for solving a world problem. Others stood up and became a source.

Some people needed another, in Scientology, to be a source. LRH elected himself. DM replaced him. Others of us were willing to be our own sources, and help the activity. When it became clear other sources were not desired, along the way, we departed. Those that were left, needed someone to be source, because, in their minds, they were not sources.

Knowing, as some do, that we are all sources, is a good starting point for helping others (whether individual or nation) to become more responsible for their lives and actions.

Sorry if this became long winded.

Good post Ed. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'm amazed at the perfect placement of all those commas too. I'm pinning it up on the wall as an example. :coolwink:

What ya think of the name Odyssey Dawn for US operations over Libya?

As Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx) said, " I'm calling you ugly, I could push your face in some dough and make gorilla cookies."

Fred Sanford: Listen, Esther. In the first place, you can't enter that contest because you're not eligible. See one of the things you have to be is a part of a certain race.
Aunt Esther: What race?
Fred Sanford: Human!

Thanks for more explicit context for your previous short windedness,
and elliptical statements which I partially understood. :)

Personally I have very little regard for any governments PR statements.
Especially the US.

The war in Iraq was based on their WMD which we now know didn't exist,
and was a tolal lie by US and Blair.

So we know the whole truth and nothing but the truth about Libya?

I agree it was an adroit use of diplomacy. It's nice to see that option being pursued intelligently by a u.s. administration once more. Frankly, earlier or more extensive u.s. involvement is a 'bad idea' in so many ways.

Too often americans react from the 'heart'. The iraq fiasco was a criminally stupid war propagated by a corrupt administration and justified by the american people's emotional reaction to hussein. It has done severe damage to u.s. foreign & domestic interests as well as the fiscal health of the nation. Nor are the disastrous effects of these existing wars over yet.

Promulgating yet another conflict for the u.s. is simply out of the question. The military is overextended, the national fiscal situation a complete mess. Moreover things are apt to remain that way for some time to come (especially given the idiotic ideas concerning fiscal policy holding sway in congress at this time).

Apart from the difficulties & expenses associated with waging yet another war, the state of libya's government is for the libyan people to decide. If the libyan people can overthrow gaddafi, well and good. If they can't, it is not for foreign nations to impose a new regime in libya. Far be it for the u.s. to bear primary responsibility for picking the next government of libya (or anywhere else for that matter).

The u.s. government on its own has no direct or leading role to play. The last thing any government wants to do is create a perceived precedent to justify foreign intervention in internal affairs. That quickly becomes a 'justifier' for other nations to interfere in their own domestic affairs.

The western governments needed 'political cover' to justify taking even limited action in the case of libya. The Arab League and the attacks on civilian populations by Gaddafi promising 'no mercy or compassion' have given that cover. Given the proximity of libya to europe and the importance of their oil supplies to european economies it is appropriate that european nations take the lead in this effort.

How much 'cover' has been provided is clear from the fact that both russia & china failed to veto the recent motion in the security council. Neither has reason to cooperate with the west against gaddafi. The fact that they did not choose to block this measure at this time speaks volumes. In the case of the chinese, who are quite prone to opportunistic bargaining, I'm particularly curious as to whether there were any 'quid pro quos'.

The u.s. really isn't the "world's policeman", nor should it be. Those 'red-blooded' yahoos screaming for u.s. action don't bear the actual responsibility for lives and resources lost. Obama, Clinton, & Gates have handled this as well as it could reasonably be expected. It may turn out 'well', but if it doesn't it won't be for lack of intelligent effort on the part of the current u.s. administration. Of course there are many who simply clamor for some sort of 'action', intelligence be damned. That way lies chaos.

If Libya grew carrots they wouldn't give a damn. But they have oil, so they do.

Not completely true, though your main point is certainly a valid consideration. Libya occupies a very strategic position in the Mediterranean. That is still recognized as having great importance, especially among europeans and u.s. geopolitical strategists.

great post Gary!

Yikes - A lull on the Apollo thread.

I was out at a dance place recently and the live combo there played this oldie which was was always one of my favorites.

Often the 2nd dynamic is full of mass and significance but this song seems to lighten it up and put a happy face on it.

Also, that deep base rhythm at the 20 second mark of the video is really danceable. I'm not much of a dancer, two left feet, but when I heard that rhythm at the club, I got up and started dancing. About a week later that rhythm came into my mind and I was able to do "theme and variations" using that catchy rhythm.

Here's a link to Hot Chocalate and "Sexdy Thing"

Lakey

Hey Gary,

Don't remember where we heard this song: Sexdy Thing. :whistling: Please remind me! Not Gower Gulch? :melodramatic:

I need to get dancing again, next time I'm in OC. :happydance:

Hey, wasn't that song at my old hang out in Dana point? Yep, that night was fun. Let's do it again Thursday night so you can meet Lydia again!

... The war in Iraq was based on their WMD which we now know didn't exist,

Not completely true. The wmd that iraq had were those old chemical weapons given to them by an earlier REPUBLICAN u.s. administration [dick cheney again]. They had been given to them for use against iran during the war between the two states, the hope was that the 'pet dictator' would use them to do in the wayward ayatollah and the u.s. could 'play innocent'.

It's an interesting pattern how often armaments handed out by the u.s. government have apparently wound up being promoted as tools of terror or repression. Perhaps the war against terrorism & dictatorships should be conducted by demanding a halt to all u.s. arms sales and gifts of armaments?

Unfortunately the pentagon is at present working with the u.s. defense contractors to increase sales of u.s. armaments overseas as a strategy for keeping the domestic arms industry 'healthy' in light of the budget crisis and cutbacks in sales to the u.s. government. It will be interesting to see how these new foreign arms sales ultimately work against the interests of the u.s. citizenry. Remember those gas canisters marked 'made in the u.s.a.' used against arab civilians by their governments in the ongoing public demonstrations in the middle east.

brown_twins_2.jpg

these are the Brown twins. They are San Francisco icons. Richard Avedon has photographed them .hey have been used in many advertisements. Richard Branson hired them for Virgin America ads among many other jobs that they have had.

I was sitting with friends in an Italian restaurant on Nob Hill yesterday when they walked in and sat next to us. They had a window seat. I knew I recognized them, i just didn't know from where.

As we sat and ate, a crowd formed on the sidewalk outside, taking photos of them. They are quite friendly and chatty.

San Francisco is a wonderful place to be. anytime

As I see it, this (in red above) was the outcome due to Obama's feckless nature. This was not the intention. It is an example of how things can work out for the best without government interference.

Obama is a flake who is in way over his head.

I could surmise that if allowing others to assume Source and Responsibility was the rationale, he would be doing that right here at home. He would be demanding States assume their rightful power, and handle their own situations.

George Bush shredded the Constitution with the Patriot Act. Obama plays golf while it burns.

Obama did say that he wanted to redistribute wealth. Here's a wealth redistribution that required no intervention from the United States:

"Engineer RA Mashelkar shares three stories of ultra-low-cost design from India that use bottom-up rethinking, and some clever engineering, to bring expensive products (cars, prosthetics) into the realm of the possible for everyone."

I feel great rumblings from the poor, particularly those in India. There will be a paradigm shift of great proportion in the coming years. If the government can keep from meddling, the shift will be wonderful.

Your post disturbed me, until I realized that you didn't understand that they are in the advertising business as models. They are represented by Look, the heaviest highest powered agency in San Francisco. When my daughter was younger, she was represented by Look. She got a TV series that ran for several years as a Look talent.

They get paid $2-5 K per day to be personalities. They get far more to pose for Richard Avedon. Perhaps you don't know the name.

Their images have adorned Times Square on a Virgin America billboard.

That was when they worked for Sir Richard Branson

They live on Nob Hill (there is a reason that it's called Nob Hill in San Francisco. They aren't hurting. We should all be so poor. They have a joy of living.

Libya has oil.

Whatever happened to the people who were yelling "No blood for oil!" ?

I agree, the only reason anybody cares is because Libya supplies a lot of oil to Western Europe, and the conflict had interrupted the oil flow. Hardly anybody cared about Darfur.

My issue is that we have no assurance that whoever replaces Gadaffi will be any improvement. Remember the Shah of Iran?

Meanwhile, our bombing Libya gives the Muslim world yet another reason to hate us.
