good paraphrase.

However, people have taken it seriously,

ie the CCHR and IAS and Hubbard in stating Psych's should be eradicated.

so, on the one hand it's just a game Ron wanted to play, but yet somehow Ron got members to play his stupid game.

on the other hand, do you realize how much time, money and effort has been played on Ron's stupid game?

It's still going on in present time.

I'm not talking about you C-BS, but the effects Ron caused.

Oh yes, I know, there are nuggets. :roflmao:

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

Sorry, I don't have the slightest idea what what the 3 bullet thing is all about.

The idea you sort of attributed to Hubbard, i.e., 'What does it matter if psychiatry harms people, no one can truly damage a spiritual being', really makes me nauseous. To go around with that notion is to be in apathy or lower. Why bother being alive if that's the way one feels? If Hubbard truly felt that way and then went ahead and set up his movement, then he would be a total dirt bag. Is that one of your bullets?

Clever play on symbols, converting C of $ into C of S. That is a very creative play on words and symbols - put one slash down the middle of the letter S and you communicate a complex thought. Its really amazing, to convey this major thought you don't require a noun, a verb not even one word, nor even one letter. Put a slash in the last letter of C of S and write: C of $ > Cof S and you convey the concept of converting the money hungry Church of Scientology into a more ethical Church of Scientology. How brilliant you were to come up with that!

BTW, I just turned 75 not 76 and for many of us, it is difficult to adjust to being mid 70's so no need to rush the onset of the late 70's

For me, I have not yet done my thing and am not resting on my laurels and popping off a brewski. I do watch ball games, however. I started following the Angels in 1950 when it was a minor league team in the Pacific Coast League. I attended many Angel games at Wrigley field in L.A. because the L.A. Angels were a farm team of the Chicago Cubs, owned by chewing gum magnate, P.K. Wrigley. The minor league Angels played in Wrigley field in Los Angeles. This staduim was very similar to Wrigley field in Chicago but on a smaller scale. It was a double decked stadium which did hold 24,000 people while the stadium in Chicago held nearly 40,000. Both stadiums used the same kind of bricks and the stadium walls were covered with ivy. Here are some photos of old Wrigley Field in L.A. which was torn down about 50 years ago:

https://www.google.com/search?q=Wrigley+field+in+Los+Angeles&rlz=1C1CHFX

I was also an L.A. Rams football fan but dropped them when they moved to St Louis in 1995. Also, when the basketball Lakers left Minneapolis after the 1959 season and moved to Los Angeles, I began being a Laker fan at that time.
Lakey

way f/n cool link lakey...

the big league angels played at wrigley too when they entered the AL in 1961. and brought along one of their minor league stars, i think his name was steve bilko or something, i'm sure you remember him, had a great career in the triple A PCL and was a fan favorite

hey!

wrigley was a GORGEOUS old ballpark

you ever listen to a tune called "there used to be a ballpark here"?

google it and think of wrigley and let yer eyes get moist

Three Bullet Points"!!!

N.B. examine the essay "to draw a line"

then examine the post where i introduce the three bullet point concept by reducing the essay to three bullet points

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

the expansion angels made noise quickly

i think they were in dodger stadium in '62 and that summer they nipping the heels of the yankees themselves. rookie bo belinsky tossed a no-no in april and sport mamie van doren on his arm. swingin' hipster leon "daddy wags" wagner stayed in the league leaders in dingers, doubles and ribbies and turned every lazy fly ball lofted out to left into a suspense-filled adventure when in the field; a natural DH born fifteen years too soon. and i think dean chance began to blossom as top line power pitcher

not long ago i had chisox scout ed brinkman in the hack back in beantown. he had a good long journeyman career as a shortstop mostly for washington and the tigers. we had a great chat; he told me a great yastrzemski story then asked him "who was he best pitcher you ever saw?" he sighed and said "nolan ryan and dean chance. i could never hit either one of them."

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

I went to see the movie, "The Imitation Game" yesterday. That's the movie where the math genius, Turing cracks the Nazi Code called Enigma. It's really an extremely well done movie! Turing creates a machine, which is the first ever electronic digital computer. He names the machine 'Christopher', in honor of a young man he knew when he was. Christopher died in childhood but Turing remembered him fondly because Christopher was also a math whiz in elementary school. The program they used to crack the Nazi code ended up being called "Utra".

The Nazi's used a code similar to those Cryptogram Puzzles which appear in my newspaper daily but every 24 hours they change the code. Doing this leads to 159 trillion combinations which ultra would have to process daily. Prior to ultra, a team and Touring, a team of 5 decoders attempted to decode the Nazi messages and they got nowhere. It took $100,000 and nearly two years to build ultra but the 159 trillion possibilities was too big even for Ultra to crack.

Meanwhile, a handful of Nazi radio or telegraph messages were intercepted in their translated forms. This, lead the British to be able to know the exact time and place when British shipping would be attack by German submarines but usually, the info came in too late to be put to use. Therefore, the few interceptions of decoded messages where deemed to be worthless.

ONE SIMPLE PIECE OF DEDUCTIVE REASONING WAS ABLE TO CRACK THE ENIGMA CODE:
Turing's group was shown the cracked code messages on paper. Someone read the coded message aloud to the group. The group immediately went into agreement with the military men that the code was of no use to them. The message began with the name of the Group issuing the message and end with the close, "Heil Hitler". Suddenly one guy, not Touring, asked to see the other messages. Sure enough, all messages began with the same opening and ended with the same close. Suddenly, the guy who asked for the other messages and Turing both realized that the code could be cracked.

The thought was that the term Heil Hitler contains 6 letters of the alphabet, and the phrase at the beginning of each message contained the name of the agency issuing the message to the German Naval command. They did not spell out the name of that agency in the movie but that name typically might reveal another 4 or 6 more letters. Thus, of the 26 letters of the aplhabet, the ultra group was given the code for 10 to 12 or so of the 26 letters. Generally, in Crytogram puzzles, if one is given the code for 10 or 12 letters, it is pretty easy to solve the puzzle. With 10 or 12 letters given to the decoders, the job of decoding is greatly reduced! The fact that Nazi's reset the code every day was no longer an insurmountable obstacle! I'm just guessing that instead of decoding 159 trillion possibilities, the work load might be cut to searching 1 billion possibilites. That is just a wild assed guess.

What happened is that the group immediately got the next batch of intercepted messages for that day, reprogrammed the machine so as to give it the letters they knew in advance and then asked the computer to complete the partial solution which was already given it.

The computer started running at it's full speed and the entire Ultra team was very nervous as time went by. Perhaps an hour into its calculations, the computer suddenly stopped, Turing checked the computer read out and sure enough a fully decoded message was outputted by the computer. The team was ecstatic. The team ran to tell the military brass.

THE AFTERMATH AND PROBLEM AFTER THE CODE WAS CRACKED.
The military brass, now armed with the time and place at which a supply convey was to be sunk wanted to immediately issue orders to attack the attackers and save the convey. Turing told the brass not to do anything and let the attack on the convey go forward. The argument was that if the Nazi's knew that ENIGMA had been cracked, the would have stopped all transmissions and totally changed enigma. You can be sure that some Nazi's would have figured out quickly that having the same heading and closing on each message had enabled the code to be cracked. They would have changed the heading and the closing and that would be it for Ultra. All its work would have been in vain.

In actual fact, ULTA and the Christopher computer were kept secret all throughout the war and well after the war as well. Though the British knew of all the Nazi attacks, they let some of them occur as scheduled and thousands of people were killed as a result. Other attacks were prevented. They formed a committee to determine which attacks would get stopped and which wouldn't. Anyway, it is a fantastic story and a fantastic movie!

All the candidates for the Ultra program were choosen by giving them crossword puzzles to solve. Only those who could solve difficult crosswords in a short length of time such as 6 minutes were considered for the Ultra program. Many tests of puzzle solving ability were the total criteria involved to have a chance to be hired for enigma.

it's about time the dialogue on this board started showing a little bit of POP!

looks like sindy and i went to different schools together; over on the dm defection thread i discovered yesterday she had innocently, serendipitously, synchonistically perhaps even charismatically stumbled upon the second of the three bullet points

kesey would get her on the bus and call her "synched in sindy" or "sindy synch"

so i praised her and added the first of the three bullet points

Re: Good post

There is nothing in your post which I disagree with! You have won me over. By the way, I mentioned that virtuous man mowing his lawn which you describe above just a couple of posts back when I first took up "big being". I described him as a "great" being but he could be big or small as to theta endowment. Did you ever read "The Razor's Edge" by W. Somerset Maugham. It was a classic recommended to me back in 1966 and its lead character, "Larry" is portrayed as one of the wisest men in the world and an enormously big being and he ends up taking a job as a cab driver in New York City in total anonymity at the close of the book. That image of Larry, one of the most enlightened beings on Earth, driving his cab, has never left my mind.

2. then, now and forever, l ron hubbard is the ONLY person qualified to be El Primo Maximo

3. Co$ should be redesigned, reformed, reorganized, rededicated and reconsecrated as CoS, a service organization of, by and for the grassroots movement the subject has spawned producing auditing and auditor training

Thanks for laying out these bullet points! Number 1 makes some sense, it probably was the right move.

Number #2 is ridiculous. Hubbard should be honored as the Founder for all time but in a subject that was touted as being very scientific, provision should have been made for the subject to be modernized as Earth technologies progressed.

On Number #3, your are very correct. The present C of $ is so out of touch with the majority of its public that almost everything C of $ says to its public is built around lies and exaggerations. If the real truth were told, very few people would join up. Almost everything the Church says or does represents a "shore story" and does not state the true facts. C of $ is demands nearly all of a person's money or if not that then all of a person's work effort. Not very many people are so altruistic that even if they believed all the falsehoods they are told, they would not mortgage their homes to the hilt, nor cash in their retirement funds or their children's college education funds.

If any organization was ever rife for a complete redesign and reformation, it is today's, C of $. As Birdie so cleverly stated, it needs to reform from the C of $ into the C of S and its promoters should be able to give the public actual truths about what the organization stand's for and not made up "acceptable" truths which is what they now give the public. Exaggerations and out right lies can't be relied on to successfully promote a major new world religion.

the organization was designed around hubbard. no one other than hubbard is qualified for the slot as is well exemplified by the deebish pissant who slipped into it

and of course, he will always be founder but he's not here but as no one else is fit to be the center the center now should the grassroots people. which is not to suggest it should be a democracy..,

the next three points are the really interesting group...

I didn't misduplicate point number two. Hubbard sold himself as some sort of deity or super advanced being. I bought into that, Birdy as did you. However, after over 5 years on ESMB, I came to completely reject that tenet of Hubbard's church. Apparently you still believe it.

Hubbard put his pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us. The apparency that he appeared to us as such a great man was mainly due to all the tech which he allegedly created on his own. That apparency fell by the wayside when it was revealed by countless individuals that he plagiarized most of his tech from others. His real talent came not in creating technology but in promoting techniques created by others and packaging them attractively for consumption. Also, not all of his tech was workable. Some of it is and some of it isn't.

Here is a video from one of Hubbard's girl friends from the 1950's. This video reveals what Hubbard was really like as a human being The video starts playing after about 10 seconds of it just showing the title:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hicxJSg0ygY

This video is very revealing as regards Hubbard's personal life and who he was as a human being. As with most of us, he was flawed. He had both good points and bad points, just like everybody else.

If his movement was designed around him only, as you correctly state, then that movement was destined not to succeed over the long haul as a religion and/or self betterment activity.

Bullet 2 has 2 major flaws: First it was designed around just L Ron Hubbard, as you say, and second it was designed around an L Ron Hubbard of the 1950's and 1960's. With these two huge limitations, his movement can't possibly succeed over the long haul. Maybe I should clarify that it can't succeed as a world wide religion or self betterment movement. It's possible for it to succeed in some other ways, such as a business devoted to real estate purchasing and renovations. By downgrading its goal to be a world wide religion designed to "save" a planet down to being a profitable business, cloaked as a religion, making a large sum of money for its COB it is still able to survive, but in name only. That is the long range effect of "bullett 2" and that outcome was guaranteed by the existence of "bullet 2".

but...

point number 2 is perfectly correct. with hubbard gone no one else is qualified to be El Primo Maximo

and the best way for things to work out is for someone to take over the El Primo Maximo slot at hubbard's demise and be given a long period of time to display conclusively that no one other than hubbard is qualified to be El Primo Maximo. during which time the hounds are released to dredge up everything they can on hubbard and his organization while the new EPM gives the organization the shakedown cruise to expose it's flaws and weaknesses

this produces the adequate data base for point three to occur

which if done properly should produce an organization well fit to purr along for more than a century, possibly even into perpetuity

Well, Birdman, you have presented an interesting post here. It would have been nice if things work out as you say but I doubt if it will happen.

Things could have been different if Hubbard had done something which was his policy for all others to do. He had this funny trait that he seldom ever followed his own policies! That turned out to be deadly!!!

The main policy which I am citing is his policy or policies for writing up one's Hat and naming a successor and turning one's Hat over to one's successor. Hubbard seemed to start doing this around late 1981 or early 1982. His first appointment was very sound in that he appointed David Mayo to be in charge of heading Tech after Hubbard passed on. He gave Mayo lots of hatting material and urged him to legally incorporate sot that he would not be under the command of COS Management. His next appointment was Bill Framks as CEO International or some title such as that. After Franks's appointment it appears that he had some strokes and illnesses and never got back to complete his hat write ups.

IT IS TRUE THAT EACH POST THAT HE CREATED ON AN ORG BOARD DID HAVE A HAT WRITE UP FOR THAT POST! CO2 pointed this out to me about a year or two before I arrived on ESMB and CO2 was correct on that point. But, having those hat packs is only a part a hatting successors. Hubbard's Power Change Formula goes into detail on what a full Hat Write Up is and a full write up has quite a few things which must be in it besides the basic hat write up. The full Hat Write Up is referred to as a. to i. or a. to j., this means there are 9 or 10 items which go into a hat write up. Many of the items which go in relate to the local scene. It details the actual individuals at one's local org who you will be dealing with and also takes into account local customs and laws which may apply to one's hat. The person leaving the post is supposed to make the post ready for his successor to such an extent that the newly appointed person just steps into his predecessor's shoes and starts doing his hat.

Probably Hubbard figured that no one person was capable of taking over his hat as Source. That would have been a difficult position to fill for any one person but he started off on the right foot, naming Mayo to lead tech and Franks to lead management. He could have and should have done this for all the key areas of Orgs such as tech, management, quality control, promotion, establishment, treasury, etc. He never did that and both his legacy and COS have paid the price.

My belief is that COS is too damaged now to recover and be a major player in either religion or the self help field. The best they can hope for is to be a money making business with most of the profits going to DM. As long as they have their religious protection, they can still pull off making a lot of money. If the religious protection is removed, even that will no longer be possible.

Speaking of Hat Write ups, etc., what do people expect to happen when DM decides to hang it up. I don't see him turning over his hats to any one else. I have no idea where all the money in his estate will go. He's much younger than I so I'll probably not be around to see how things play out when control passes out of DM's hands. It should be interesting to witness that.

ON THIS VIDEO, THERE ARE A COUPLE OF HUBBARD PIECES OF HUBBARD TECH, ONE TAUGHT TO HIM BY HIS GIRL FRIEND AND THE OTHER INITIATED BY HER AND THEN DEVELOPED BY HUBBARD. The first piece of tech is "Reach and Withdraw" Hubbard was living in Palm Springs, CA and was depressed and could not write books which had been ordered from him by his publisher. When he tried to write he would turn on headaches and other somatics. His girlfriend Barbara had studied quite a bit of Pyschology and she knew a drill which she thought might help him.

She put a blank piece of paper on his writing table and told him to stare at it for a while and to write or not write as he saw fit. For a while he did not write anything but then eventually picked up his pen and started writing a bit and then stopped. This went on for a while with Hubbard in front of his writing space, looking at his paper, pens and typewriter and handling them as he saw fit. Barbara left the scene for awhile and to her amazement, when she got back he was writing like crazy and was no longer depressed.

Another time she visited him somewhere else and he was extremely depressed again. She asked him to describe his feeling to her. He thought for a while and then wrote out the word "Apathy". When Hubbard did that he began to feel better. From that humble beginning, which never would have occurred without Barbara's help, he developed the first Tone Chart, later to by called the Tone Scale which appeared in the Book One Dianetics in 1950. On this one, Hubbard developed the Tone Scale on his own be he did need a jump start from his girl friend or he may never have written it.

they are trying to make a cause celebre out of a four year old boy who was unharmed after being uncomfortable for two days; they are "grasping at straws"

CASE DISMISSED

I don't care how many times you try denying, minimizing, diminishing, covering up, obfuscating here at ESMB regarding L. Con Hubbard's/$cientology's history of child abuse I will post eyewitness accounts and links.

"He put this 4½ year old little boy - Derek Greene - into the chain locker for two days and two nights. It's a closed metal container, it's wet, it's full of water and seaweed, it smells bad. But Derek was sitting up, on the chain, in this place, on his own, in the dark, for two days and two nights... people heard him crying. That is sheer, total brutality. That is child abuse."

"Hubbard had ordered a little girl who was a deafmute down into the chain locker sometime in 1968. Hubbard was going to cure her deaf-ness by shoving her down there! This came to my attention after she'd been there for about a week because the Master at Arms at the time, a beautiful girl, came to me and said, "John, I've got to have you come and see what's going on."

"McMaster remembers once being asked by the Master at Arms to come and help her, He pulled up the wedge from the chain-locker, a dank and unhealthy part of the ship into which offenders were flung without food as a punishment. Out crawled a little girl who turned out to be a deaf-mute who had been unable to write her name and had incurred the Commodore's wrath."

Affidavit of Monica Pignotti

"I also witnessed a fourteen year old boy being locked up in the chain locker of the ship, where he was made to spend the night. The chain locker is a small dark space where the chain to the anchor to the ship is stored when the ship is not at anchor. The boy was being put in the chain locker by three teen-age L. Ron Hubbard messengers. I witnessed this happening several times to people, even though I never experienced it myself."

Interview with David Mayo

"The length of time for children would vary, but no one was there less than a day. The average was a week or two. Three weeks was about the maximum. Age didn't matter. The youngest kids were 5, 6 or 7. Old, young, men, women, big, little; it wouldn't matter because to Scientologists the being is ageless so you don't think in terms of how young or old someone is."

"The four-year-old boy could no longer cry. He had been nearly 48 hours in the chain locker of the flagship _Apollo_ and his entire body was aching from his efforts to chip off rust. His knees and hands were raw with cuts and bruises. His voice was raspy from crying, and he was desperately afraid."

From the book "Messiah or Madman" by Bent Corydon

"The chain locker was dangerous. Located at the very bow of the ship under the water-line. It was the place where the section of the chain not in the water was stored. When the entire chain was brought up it filled most of this comparatively small, wet, dark, and some- times rat-infested locker. The only thing that was holding the chain in the locker was what is called a devil's claw, which was located well above the locker on the deck of the ship. If someone were to kick the claw, the entire chain would be pulled at high speed out of the locker by the weight of the anchor, and anyone down in the locker could very easily get caught in the outgoing chain and be yanked to his death."

Lawrence Wollersheim interviews Jesse Prince who was 2nd in command of Scientology

"Just looking at it now, those children were so under-nourished, just not whole, complete children, because L. Ron Hubbard figures barley water is better than milk. . . I've seen those children, 15 to 20 of them in a filthy room, filthy carpet, food everywhere, and playing. If one of them got out of line, they'd just lock them in a room and let them scream itself to death, or scream itself to sleep. . . They make them do what's called rocks and shows, where if they do something that they weren't told to do, they have to do sit-ups, push-ups from the cradle they are punished. From the cradle the children are punished."

Biased Journalism Volume, December 25, 1996

"The boy was locked in a small room with no TV, no entertainment and no company, for almost the entire time. He was fed and an adult came to check on him a few times during the day. . . an ethics officer, who stood by while the child talked to his mother. The message was clear, "don't you dare complain."

Affidavit of Tonja C. Burden
25 January 1980

"On a number of occasions, I saw people placed in the 'chain lockers' of the boat on direct orders of Hubbard. These lockers were small, smelly holes, covered by grates where the chain for the anchor was stored. I saw one boy held in there for 30 nights, crying and begging to be released. He was only allowed out to clean the bilges where the sewer and refuse of the ship collected. I believe his 'crimes' were taking or using a musical instrument, I believe a flute, of someone else without permission. I also saw a young boy and a young girl thrown in the chain lockers at separate times because of romantic involvements they had with other people."

Life aboard Scientology's ship 'The Apollo' in 1968
Posting of Steve Manning 8 Mar 2000

"I was twelve years old and witnessed children younger than myself being thrown into the chain locker (a room for storing the anchor while at sea) for days on end until they persuaded the ethics officer that they were not enemies. Physical abuse of children was rife.
