If the demand isn’t high enough why should I keep doing this for the entertainment of a few dozen people? The market always wins.
As a newcomer, that's something I observed very early on, but didn't want to broach the subject for fear of sounding like a cult supporter. But it's true. ESMB simply doesn't have enough traffic to warrant keeping the doors open any longer. As you say, the market is simply not supporting the place, despite how fiercely loyal the few regulars are.

Maybe that's an indicator of how successful ESMB and this community have been, in helping recent escapees process their experiences with Scn, and re-adapt to the real world. For what it's worth, I see the same phenomenon at work at other ex-Scn gathering places. As the cult shrinks, interest in it seems to be waning, as well.

Take a victory lap. Ya done good, y'all.

As you note, we don't really get that many newbies. Not enough to keep regulars busy chatting with them. So the regulars either wander off and check in infrequently, or those who do stick around (and have gotten all talked out about Scn) chat about other stuff: crows, remodeling, politics, etc.

Take a win, Emma! You hung in there long enough to be there for the final decline of Scientology.

There were always more "Guests" than members lurking and reading this board, sometimes 500 guests at one time. That should mean something good. I hope they learnt a lot about the cult. I hope people continue to visit and learn when it shuts down. That's why I plug the Clambake site. The message board may be down on Clambake but the rest of the site is a treasure trove of information about Scientology.

You only have 547 more to go to break 10K. You can do it.

I take comfort that I at least beat Alanzo in number of postings.
