One more major point is.........

Looks a bit like Sweetness's "Bad Apples or Bad Barrels" ost is being sidelined a bit here. It is an important issue and I hope it will get more recognition than it has so far.

My own take on it for many years has been that the entire stats game was a lunacy right from the start. I well remember the arguments I'd get into when a senior complained that I didn't audit enough hours or my sessions were not long enough etc and I'd throw back at them that I don't audit stats - I audit people and it is their wins and gains that I aim towards and not Org stats.

One of the other things wrong with stats is that whereas they were supposed to present an integrated whole, in fact they were very individualised. With each person only going for his or her stat quality just went out the window in a rush. Bullshit letters from the letter reg, students made to do more TRs because it gave the super higher stats, completions of people still riddled with MUs, reg sign-ups of people who should never even be on lines . . the list is endless. All because each person only cares only about his/her own stat and gives not a damn about anything that happens down the line. The stat is VASTLY more important than the public we are serving.

I could go on ranting all evening. Enough now.

One more major problem with the stats system as practiced by C of S is that there is no stat which leads to long range planning and strategizing. I am sure that stats can be made to be useful in an organization or a business if they are well thought out and properly designed. The periiod between stat valuations is also a key factor. All C of S stats are summarized for review once every week. If a person's stat is not higher than it was the previous week, then that person is in a lower condition for the week.

Long range strategies and planning are totally thrown aside just to get one week's stats higher than the previous week. This is totally idiotic. There is no inducement for innovation, ways to make things more efficient, ways to create new product lines. No provision really exists for a very high stat comng in on a given week. Let's say an Org is doing $25,000 a week consistently and one of the staff members relatives dies and the staff member gets $250,000. He quickly donates it all to the Church and the weeks' stats rise to $275,000. Everyone knows the stats exploded due to a specific death of one staff member's parents. And everyone knows that the next weeks stats will crash back to the $25,000 range. Let's say the staff actually make a good week of $30,000 the next week, well they are all assigned a lower condition and lose their day off and other privileges even though they did a better than average job.

As practiced in the C of S, their stat system is a robot's dream. The entire system is completely and totally bonkers.

Add to that that it keeps one pinned to a short future - this a key mind-fuck control mechanism. Thursday 2.00pm is when it all ends.

Another flaw in the system is that orgs were always operating off a false stat. First it was GI and then later Paid Comps - which was of course ignored and the attention stayed for ever on GI.

I like your post very much except for your opinion that LRH ran standard Scientology tech on his own case. Of course when one develops a technology from scratch it is impossible to use tech which does not yet exist. However, once the tech was established, he never ran bridge actions on himself, in the order they appeared on the bridege, at least not to my knowledge.
Lakey

If you recall Otto Roos had a many feet high pile of LRH folders that
that indicated he needed correction on many actions. However LRH got mad at the so called "discreditable reads", and refused that correction. So someone must have audited him back then, and then I guess he audited everything that came up in his bridge research. Maybe Mary sue was his auditor. Can't recall.

Best I know LRH did allow the " cookie cutter approach re himself."
After all it was his creation.

LRH spent about 30 years trying to improve his "cookie cutter approach".

I think that was a wonderful effort. And lets face it, its a very complicated and all embracive cookie cutter approach.

Within scn and offshoots there is a vague pattern that the real experts
did their apprenticeships and spent long hours of study etc. There is a
LOT to study.

Ideally, and per LRH one should make it their own. Once that is done one
may look at LRHs early dictum re " Milestone 1" " Go on up the line and you will then become free of me and free of scientology".

I have met many old timers, and corresponded with many more, and spoke by phone or skype. Seems to me that they make the tech their own, and in some ways violate what is considered standard tech. Because they are free. Ed is an excellent example. I know from his help of friends of mine, where he resolved a lost situation brilliantly. Phil Spickler is another who audited one I referred to him to .... well lets say something like nirvana, and having met him was an extremely joyful experience, and he told me some stories of REALLY out tech stuff that worked a bomb. Candy told me some of her successes, not in forms that I could publish. But very willing to do so. [hint]
Trey Lotz is very " Standard tech", and yet he gave me a coffee shop admin scale at a party while I was drinking beer. :) Ed described him as who he wants to be when he grows up. :)

These I mention as I have met them. I should also mention Ted, who I havn't met but been aquainted with for a decade on the net, who is a fount of wisdom, and another of those" best auditors in the world".

T,

The effectiveness of any "cookie-cutter" is dependent on its design and the integrity, honesty and level of brilliance or lack thereof of the designer and creator.

In the case of the tech of the CofS, we have a creator who is a proven liar and fraud who demonstrably only ever did things in a superficial half-arsed way to suit his own agenda.

So, of course, his cookie-cutter system is very much lacking, if not grievously flawed.

Though on the other hand, it does contain some stuff that is shown to be beneficial . . . the trick is in being smart enough to use what's good brilliantly.

The tragedy is that some of us had had to go "all the way" through the confidential levels to find out what was actually good and what was so really bad and dangerous.

Thank you so much Carmelo. I really have some sort of mental block on posting pictures and time after time, you have stepped forward to help me on this. Its funny, but I manually put the
around the URL but the picture itself did not come up! Do you have any idea why this is?

Well, if I can copy from "Direct Link" that would really solve my problem.

BTW, that particular picture is Just Edey, side turned to the carmera, talking with her friend from Santa Barbara, Jim.

Lorinda and Candy each took tons of pictures from our recent trip to the Getty museum and then our subsequent dinner at "The Stinking Rose" on La Cienega Restaurant Row in L.A.

At Joan's pottery sale just last Sunday, Candy took dozens of pictures. People known on ESMB who where at that event are Candy, Johnny and me. Also Edey was there with her new boyfriend. Joan has asked that her image not be put on the internet. Her sister Laura has made no such request.

Laura is the youngest looking person for her age whom I have ever seen. Up close with very little make up and no surgery, I would swear that she is about 30 years old but she is much older. I had not seen her since 1978 which is 32 years ago and when I saw her, she was already of voting age.

I think I look pretty good for my age, and can easily pass for 12 to 15 years younger and Edey does really well for her age but Laura is in a class by herself.

Bad Apples or Bad Barrels?

I’m reading a fascinating book: The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil by Phil Zimbardo, the Stanford professor who conducted the famous Stanford Prison Experiment in 1971. A good one to add to your reading list.

Tolerance for abuse is inherent in Utopian ideologies, where the people involved are engaged in a project to replace the degraded current world with a new, perfect world.

Since that promised future perfection has infinite value, it can justify an unlimited price in the here-and-now. Part of that price involves having no mercy towards those who would stop or impede the creation of the perfect world. Another part frequently involves people being asked to accept a lower standard of living in order to invest in the coming perfect world.

Examples of runaway Utopian thought include the French Revolution and the excesses of the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages, but the biggest example in recent memory comes from the Communist movement. It had millions of True Believers, and everywhere it was implemented it resulted in millions (sometimes tens of millions) of murders. Yet that did not deter followers of the ideology from declaring that it was ridiculous to think that the murderous abuse was inherent in the system, and it doesn't stop True Believers from thinking that THEY would be able to implement the system in a non-abusive way.

One major inherent and irreparable flaw is that centralized absolute power is necessary to implement the Grand Vision, and such power is inevitably grabbed by the most ruthless psychopath in the organization. Another such flaw is that ruthless measures are tolerated and sanctioned in order to achieve the Perfect World.

The system of morality and justice that is incorporated in Judeo-Christian culture inherently assumes that the current world is imperfect, and populated by imperfect people, and that giving unrestrained power to imperfect people is a recipe for disaster.

Yea, Mary Sue audited him a lot!

Those descreditable reads were very likely R/Ses and LRH got MSH to tell Roos that they were not Rock Slams when Roos knew they were. MSH was his auditor when many of those reads came up.

When I say that LRH did not use his own tech, I know of dozens of instances, many from my experience on the Apollo. I am not talking just auditing tech but also admin tech.

He created a brand new post of Purchasing Officer for the Apollo, docked in Portugal. Part of my hat, per, policy was to have a full hat pack write up. Also, LRH did not check if I knew how to speak Portuguese. Almost no one on the crew knew that language and LRH assumed I would not know it, I am sure. Then he threw me onto the post, making phone calls all day in Portugal without speaking Portuguese and he provided no hat write up for the post. Policy calls for the new staff member to be checked out on his hat before assuming post and LRH ignored his own policy in this regard.

It was even worse for the Program's Chief Post. The main part of this major executive post was to be able to do Evals. I had not done the Data Evaluator's course plus no hat pack at all existed. These were terrible ommissions from his own policy. To put it bluntly, he just threw me to the wolves. He did not give a Sh-t about me or his orgs. Yvonne fought for a month to keep me at CCLA Treasury and he pulled me out of there and destabilized her Org and just wantonly put me in a position where I had to fail.

Within a week of me being on the Apollo, he removed two senior executives from CCLA, Sam Loria, Qual Sec and Irene Howey, Org Officer. Sam was made C/O of AOLA and Irene C/O of ASHO Day. This was called filling posts in the matter of playing musical chairs and it was against LRH Policy. LRH seemed to want to destroy CCLA, he just moved out two top execs and a top admin person, me, and posted them in different Orgs with no replacement sent to CCLA. Was it any wonder that Yvonne was dead within 4 years of this disastrous unmocking of her org, all done while her stats were in affluence and with she virtually worshipping LRH?

The next fiasco where stats emerged was that first eval I was assigned to do as Programs Chief, find the "why" which was leading CCLA to be mainly an upstat Class IV Org with a few Celebrities rather than being a full fledged Celebrity Centre.

The why was right there in the stats for all to see but no one could see it but me. CCLA's Div 6 was using the stat "New Bodies in the shop" and I felt that it needed to be changed to "New Celebrities in the shop", Yvonne did not see this, nor did Heber, Chris Rutkowski the very intelligent FBO, nor the very intelligent Irene Dirman. I think Rutkowski would have seen it if he had a position on CC staff but he was Flag staff. I saw this oupoint from down in the basement in the Dept of Disbursements. I wrote my observation up to Yvonne in one of my weekly reports to her. No action was taken to change the stat.

The correct why for CCLA's "situation" was the Div 6 Stat was new bodies in as it was for all other Orgs but for a Celebrity based Org, it needed to be changed to new celebrities in the shop. I have been told that this was finally implemented into CCLA perhaps 5 years ago. It took about a 33 year comm lag to implement something I saw in 1972 and tried to implement in 1973. I am pretty sure LRH would have recognized this point and made the change if he had seen my Eval but my senior, Sandy, tore my Eval into small pieces and threw the scraps of paper into my face and called my Eval, bullshit.

Here is an instance when fine tuning the name of a stat could have created a huge improvement in an Org but it took a 33 year cultural lag for Scn Management to figure out something one of their low level employees spotted by inspection 33 years earlier. Is this any way to run a Navy? Hell no!

Expanding on what I said, at one point I knew a lady who moved down to Clearwater, because she wanted to be near Flag. She didn't have any money for Flag services, and was barely able to feed and house herself and her two kids.

She calls me up to complain about her situation there. She was doing housecleaning for Scns, but many Scns down there were getting their houses cleaned by illegal aliens, and she found it impossible to underbid the illegals and still be able to support her family. She wrote up the alien-using Scns to the Flag MAA, and was upset that the MAAs were not interested in addressing her complaints.

In vain, I tried to explain to her that handling her issues were not going to raise any Flag stat, the MAAs were overloaded and getting inadequate sleep from dealing with issues that WOULD affect Flag stats, and so her complaints were not likely to be taken up any time soon, if ever.

This did not sit well with her. She was incapable of accepting this as a fact of life. She became more bitter and complaining about her situation until finally I decided that SHE was a liability on MY lines, demanding that I spend hours on the phone with her to help her figure out solutions to her many problems while never having time to do anything for me in exchange, so I dropped her.
