I am fascinated with paradigm shifts in culture, where the whole conduct and attitude reverses itself and goes in a different direction.

30 years ago the media found it taboo to reveal Scientology's dark, demonic and dirty secrets. I believe the Alex Gibney movie is a Watershed moment.

The paradigm shift is that media apparently now deem it unethical to NOT report Scientology crimes. The media WANT to report Scientology, Miscavige, Tom Cruise, Human abuses and all the dirty laundry.

Agreed, but with one caveat.

Gibney stated that none of the news divisions of the major networks were willing to make footage available to him out of fear of legal threats.

That was when he was putting the documentary together.

Hopefully they are now less fearful, having seen how well Going Clear has been received.

But this is a real game changer already, and it hasn't even be broadcast.

Oh, dear God, Zac's description in Video #2 of being approached to sign the membership contract by a young female Sea Org member when he was only 10 years old just gave me shivers of revulsion!

And the part about children being referred to as "coins". And that coins are "traded" at will by Scientology, meaning children are sent anywhere in the world. To perform difficult and dangerous work. And apparently it is all okay with the brainwashed parents of these children. Karen, I'm so grateful to you for pointing Zac's videos out! Wow, what a story he has. I'm spending the day looking at everything he has on his YouTube channel.

The shot panned across the young faces of the missing and still in people (with young David Miscavige in the front row, of course) was just a mind-blower.

Scientology will likely hunker down and wait for this storm to pass. But it will not pass. It's only just getting started.

Government action is both necessary and inevitable.

Will it become mainstream in US politics to want a review of their tax exemption?

I see this as an approaching singularity. Only a few years ago, there was a story coming to public attention about the abuses perpetrated by the cult of scientology every few months.

NOW there are multiple stories every DAY fueled by the upcoming documentary.

After the airing of Going Clear on HBO in a few weeks, millions of viewers will be exposed to the reality of how the cult operates. Its abuses, slimy coverups and disingenuous celebrity endorsements.

It will be a case of pent-up demand. More media --> more people tell their story --> even more media (repeat in ever expanding spiral). The more the cult protests, the more it will be seen as a fraud. A review of tax exemptions afforded to the cult will be the inevitable result of this approaching singularity.

The press has always sought out sensational stories like Scientology. The press needs money and digging out a Scientology story has been a big money loser so the press stayed away until recently.

The internet amounts to free exchange of information therefore the role of the press has changed.

Now the press is less about informing the public and more about getting your attention.

There are a handful of devices in advanced development that can detect the mood of a person in front of their cameras. This requires a great deal of software development. Needless to say these devices are being used more and more with higher accuracy. One program was able to correctly discern over 189 different facial expressions. I think attention getters is the new operating paradigm which will control how right it is to expose anything. Will the story be able to grab someone's attention?

What attracts and maintains attention in 2015? Well, reality TV is gripping the attention of the viewing public with shows like Duck Dynasty, Honey Boo Boo, The Bachelder, Pawn Stars, Sister Wives, Surviver. WOW.

Will Scientology attract enough attention?

I'm not sure the Scientology bizarreness will be big press until it's a reality show. "The Letter Reges of Big Blue", "In the Hole with the RTC". THAT would generate some press.

IMHO, the paradigm shift to watch would be exposing ANYTHING as long as it holds the attention of the viewer.

Even to the extent, now, that a few well respected sites are reviewing the film saying it needed to dig deeper -- go further -- get in there and turn this thing inside and out and really penetrate, going where no journalist has gone before. Now they're pushing! Possibly this sentiment will bring about even more decisions to delve into the beast, coming back with the head or at least a kidney or a lung.

I believe Alex and Lawrence HAVE gone where no journalist has gone before. Reviewers can be harsh when sitting behind a computer. I'd like to see anyone do what some of these people think Gibney, et al should have done.

Lenore Hale - My grandmother - She should not have died in the circumstances she did. She should have died, naturally, surrounded by her loving family. She should not have ended her life while under emotional agony, alone and disconnected from her Scientology family. I wish I could have saved her from her pain. I blame Scientology for her death.
