If Marty were posting here on ESMB I'd ask him "Why WOULDN'T Scientology do those things now?"

Hubbard has still not returned from Target Two to revise (and/or cancel) his policies and advices that CoS runs off of.

I have no doubt that Scientology would still do these types of things (and worse), but they just would be more careful to keep similar activities from being exposed again the next time the CoS gets raided.

Another seems to be George M. White, author of Lucifer's Bridge, who wrote in one of two comments under Leah video #12:

(Odd, because I had thought White's book was at least somewhat critical, but, maybe, through Marty's videos, he's seen the light.)

With George White's comment in mind, Marty's purpose may be to:

a) Attempt to discredit as many critics and activists as possible.

b) Emphasize Scientology as a "religion."

c) Repeat that those who attack "religion" are "anti religion bigots."

d) Emphasize that only "religious scholars" be accepted as worthy of commenting on Scientology.

e) Of course, Scientology's forty year "scholar program" has had its effect, corrupting - indeed largely establishing - the "New Religion Movement" studies programs at Universities. J. Gordon Melton, a hired cult shill, invented the term "NRM."

Exactly! The very thing they are trying to attain (protection, recognition, respectability, longevity, etc.) is the very thing slipping away from them at an ever growing pace. And they are fueling it.

Scientology's name is mud. That makes it way easier for others to make their moves. Even if we are unable to "see" the way through the protective walls, the walls protecting this cult are not impenetrable. Never forget that. People give far too much weight to Hubbard's intelligence. There are only so many moves this cult can make, only such much tension can build, without either an implosion or explosion occurring.

I think that is very smart, and indeed brilliant, from the standpoint of Marty and the Church of Scientology. Well played. No, I am not being the least bit sarcastic.

Hear me out.

It is part of the Church of Scientology allying itself with religions, churches and people of faith generally, which has been going on for a very long time but has accelerated recently. (See my numerous posts re: the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office signing onto various letters concerning religious and civil rights worldwide.) The Reinhold Neibuhr quote is Marty's and Scientology's way of signaling to other religions, churches and people of faith that while atheists, agnostics and critics of religion and spirituality are coming for Scientology now, they will be coming for them later.

As I've repeatedly warned (to deaf ears), critics of Scientology who are also proselytizing atheists and who are, in fact, hostile to all religion and spirituality insist on falling into this trap. (For example, I had to stop inviting Christians here regarding areas of mutual concern because I tired of seeing them get bashed.) As a result, they provide evidence in support of the argument by Marty and the Church of Scientology, and help them find allies with Christian and other churches, religions and people of faith.

I think it's a rationalization, and as such, rather telling.

I'm referring to that Hubbard lecture with the "games master" metaphor, although he might not think in those terms, but that's just a fitting piece I'm familiar with. I'm not an ex so have to improvise a lot. I think you get the idea. Big beings are in control of MEST or even beyond the universe, reveling in power is good and spiritual, "playing games" as well as "enthusiasm"/confidence are high on the tone scale, and all that.

Tl;dr: he is probably losing sanity and control but trying to rationalize it as "being artfully incongruent" or "playing games".

Posting history suggests almost incomprehensible word salad that contains a few pointed words designed to shame and deflect.

There were a number of options he could have used to register his beliefs, but he deliberately chose the path of most damage and betrayal.

The only things he will post now will be designed throw people off balance. Make them second guess themselves. I can possibly sum it all up for you.

The quote explores the nuanced distinctions between comedy, irony, pathos and other human contradictions, whether such exist by reason of happenstance or whether the person has, at some level, created the situation due to poor character or decision-making.

However none of these actually apply to the situation in which Rathbun finds himself.

Rathbun belongs to an entirely different category. Hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy so severe that profound betrayal, treachery and destruction is caused to innocent victims. Which is why efforts to describe it typically glide right past "hypocrisy" and eventually arrive at its rightful descriptive--sociopathic.

But, nice nice try, Marty. At least you made the effort to re-cloak yourself in some type of Noble-yet flawed- Philosophical-Warrior re-branding.

The part I really like about Rathbun's moronic approach to his video "briefings" is that they not only fail to answer the vital and fundamental question about WTF he's trying to do---they purposely intend to do the opposite of bringing clarity. They intentionally obfuscate and defeat any earnest effort to understand him by burying his presentation in blinking, stammering, fumbling, lying, non-sequitur, rhetorically incoherent, double-talking gibberish.

I'm tired of and appropriately repulsed by Rathbun's "black ops" and his fair game tricks & deceptions. He is doing now what he always did as a Scientology goon. Bringing great misery to the innocent in order that the wicked may prosper.
