Real good point from 2013. Relevant now.

In marketing you have to fill the vacuum, especially on the Internet. You have to get in people's minds. Otherwise someone else, a competitor, will fill the vacuum.

By having a siege mentality and hiding, DM and his COS are creating a powerful vacuum, which is being filled by critics, ex-members, news media, bloggers, book reviewers, documentary makers, and others. In the end, right or wrong, they'll own the lion's share of people's minds in this "battle of ideas."

DM can never speak in the open or be interviewed on camera because there'd be way too many dangerous, reputation-killing, cult-killing questions asked. Plus he'd be on the record, which would be a big liability in any future lawsuits.

Hard to get an SO exec or staff member out front for the same reasons. Plus they could be immediately poisoned (go into doubt and blow) by the new information that's presented to them from outside the cult bubble. (Too numerous to list but you know it already.)

Marty is an ideal answer. He can defend. He can get intense (like he did for a bit in the last two videos). He can be a veritable hit man, an idea and reputation killer when needed. He's heard everything and will not get poisoned. Apparently he'll do and say anything, which is exactly what's "needed and wanted" right now as the COS declines. On a death march in the states, it seems.

He's arm's length to the corporation -- merely hired on-screen documentary talent. Anything he says wouldn't have the same legal liability as utterances DM or senior staffers would go on the record with.

Marty . . . the new arm's length spokesperson and special projects guy.
Now, they have somebody . . . sorta.

Too little . . . too late though.

Make any sense? (I've had a couple drinks tonight, LOL!)

First of all....let's get the priorities out of the way. What kind of beer did you drink tonight? The bottles in the giff suggest Stella Artois? lol

Now on to the rest of our unfinished business. . .

GREAT POST!!

For the last few days since seeing those videos, I've been feeling unsure (of myself) and a bit sad, fragmented and almost tearful ... I don't want to believe that people can't change and I really believed that Marty was no longer the slime-ball that he was when in the cofs. Even when I watched the first few videos I just thought he looked ill and I WANTED him to demonstrate some humanity and to back up what he KNOWS to be the truth regarding the cult. I have always seen him as being one of the biggest victims of the cult and if I'm being honest I still do, and yet I'd like to reach out and shake him, hard ... for daring to post those disgusting videos.

I expect there's a lesson to be learned through all of this but right now I have no idea what it is or why it matters so much.

Sorry to ramble, I know it's inappropriate and irrelevant and I expect I'll delete it when I next log in.
:tobed:

Yeah it's not a nice feeling when someone you were rooting for actually turns out to be the ratbag everyone was talking about. A real kick in the guts and I'm willing to bet there are many out there finding themselves in your position at times.

A classic case would be that moment when realised we got duped by Hubbard.

Marty was starting to show himself as a standup guy for a while there until that sudden ending to the court case.

Our (then) hero had many of us fooled then, then he went back to his old self. Which begs the question - did he really change at all?

Hope you feel better soon Trouble.

[h=3]Marty Rathbun: “Going Clear” Documentary Source | Freedom Magazine[/h]www.freedommag.org/going-clear/white-papers/marty-rathbun.html

By relying on Marty Rathbun as one of its principal sources for its Church of Scientology film “Going Clear,” produced by Lawrence Wright and Alex Gibney, HBO ...

CULT WEBSITE ^^^^- Do not click on it.

Check out the heading (((((^^Don't Click - Cult Website)))):nervous:

The videos are clearly the work of David Miscavige.

It is exposing what David Miscaviges FEARS most.

THE IRS Tax Exemption - he is trying to discredit Lawrence Wright.

My bet - Marty is getting 10 million dollars for this....his attorneys will be paid secretly.

Lets exploit that FEAR SP'S!!

Miscavige is going to have Marty recant everything he said. He did this with every high ranking official that left and eventually succumbed to the blood money buy out.

Soon - his blog will be disassembled....and he will recant everything he said.

Will someone please - MIRROR everything Marty Rathbun posts and then lets write a book on HOW Scientology Works.

^^^^^THIS!!

I agree that Marty's blog will disappear and needs to be preserved.

He's going to recant everything, saying he was PTS to the ASC, so temporarily insane.

Maybe he doesn't remember.

Once you have stumbled, the cult will never put you back in a position of trust again.

That's the policy as I recall.

So nothing has changed. Marty is still Scientology's fix it man. Miscavage must have caught wind of rumblings at the IRS and reached out to Marty, and thus Monique's law suit evaporated.

What did he sell his soul and public reputation for? A few million? Was it worth it?

And what was it Yingling said when asked about the IRS? That the church would never lose it's tax exempt status? Why would she say that unless they have this master plan in the works?

This gives testimony to how serious a problem it is for them.

The slow motion train wreck that we're witnessing saddens me. Marty Rathbun has succeeded, beyond his wildest expectations, in spectacularly discrediting himself.

The damage he's caused is incalculable, but NOT to the community of ex-Scientologists who revile and mock him... but rather to himself, and those in his immediate orbit.

A soft landing, but into what? Into where?
Purgatory, if the Gods are merciful.

I forced myself to watch a few more videos, not the words as much the presentation of the man.

As others have said what I see is something very, very sad. The meaningless drivel comes out until he pauses for a second or two and you get a glimpse of a soul in deep and profound torment. He stutters, his eyes glaze over, at points he almost looks like he will burst out crying. I hear a silent scream about his hatred for himself and those around him and he gags on the words he must utter. Then the head comes up with a disturbing grin and sentences full of "ok?" - so typical of a scientologist - come pouring out again with eyes ablaze. Watching a train wreck indeed. Well we all choose our paths and if giving a narcissistic sociopath what he wants is Marty's only apparent life choice, then I am not going to waste any more of my life watching that. It is sad but I am not sorry for him, he's made his choices and will inevitably reap the results.

Many of us here are seasoned posters, and this thread shows the humanity (and humour) that is possible in a world not ruled by scientology. Thanks guys! And welcome to all the new posters too.

Towards the end of the video Rathbun tries to undermine Paul Haggis' accusations about homophobia in Scientology. Per the course, I suspected that I was witnessing another case of "Rathbun vs. Rathbun" so I've decided to see whether or not he has written or made any statements about this subject before. What little did I find suggests that the old Rathbun concurred with Haggis:

Scientology has used the federal Act [i.e Religious Freedom Restoration Act] for more than two decades to not only discriminate against the LGBT community, but also to immunize itself against charges ranging from human trafficking, to wrongful death, to fraud.

BTW, what's that part about human trafficking? I thought Rathbun said that RPF is not human trafficking?

Up to 14 videos now....and he hasn't changed his shirt yet?

I suppose that this was originally one long 1.5 hour video. It has then been cut into smaller pieces. Now these video snippets are being released in small doses like precious pearls of wisdom.

Think about it, if that would be one long video, nobody would watch it. Can you imagine listening to Marty for over an hour? 3-4 minutes of Marty are about the limit before people passing out. Small snippets also have greater impact on the audience. The idea behind is actually not stupid.

What I still don't understand about these videos. What's the value of them for Miscavige? They are not convincing. So what use do they have?

They're a reflection of their creators' minds, a mirror image of what's inside these
people's minds . . . what they fervently believe or are pretending at the moment.

They need no other broader reason to exist than that really. At least not to them.
That much I think we can infer.

But, I'm with you. They don't fly in our world.

That's pretty advanced. Do you think somebody in production was observant and self aware enough to realize this? Who would then have the rank to make the decision to convert it to a drip stream? I can only think of one person and it isn't Marty.

Well I can't watch any more of these.

It's like watching a sickness unfold to see a man this mentally twisted up. He MUST take apart the book, line by line, he's obsessed with every line of it, but he's not even thinking, just spouting old fictional Scientology propaganda lines that are easily disproven, that he himself has disproven , not to mention countless other exes and actual documentation that disproves him.

Barf. :puke2:

His face is bland and blank. No animation beyond the occasional look up, like a beaten dog hoping he'd served his master well and now half-wags his tail, "That was good, though, wasn't it, master? Wasn't it?" :begging: Only to get some silent internal half-acknowledgement, "Keep going..." as he returns to his propaganda lines in this dogged task to which he committed himself. Line by line by line by line, through the book he tediously reads and spouts any vague disagreement he can. MUST... FINISH ... BOOK!

Whether the evil master is just in his head or not, we can't quite see. But it is real to Marty, so he continues. :blah: :blah: :blah::blah: :blah:

So this is the great, "Rue the day?" Marty threatened? :duh: He started on this course at least 1-1/2 years ago.

And Alanzo figured out he was used as a tool in some bizarre, insane caper, just to be discarded when he no longer served.

Folks want to make some sort of rational sense of this. Maybe somewhere in there, there's some sort of twisted logic. A payoff, blackmail, something.

But even if there is (and there probably is), this is how it was always going to go. Marty never could live without schemes within schemes within schemes. He always needed enemies to blame, even if it meant targetting his friends. I think he made a half-hearted effort for a bit, but he was never completely honest with himself, about himself. Common, accepted moral codes didn't apply to him. He was above that. :hmm:

It's not exactly sad, unless he has a brain tumor. It is pathetic, though, seeing him try to snap right back to his full, amoral self and watching him, knowing he is quite aware that the pieces he recites don't fit. That doesn't stop him from trying to force it, though. Must get back to his old self.

Bye, Marty. It was a good lesson in what happens to people who think they are above truth and integrity, if nothing else.

YAWN -

What are the value to Miscavige?

Honey - you need to do some more research. Miscavige is dictating what to say to Marty. David MIscavige is in fear of losing his clever little cult game called Scientology - when that Tax Exemption gets pulled.

Other high ranking officials who blew did the exact same thing...

Do some research...
