Dear God, I have to admit, you have a point there, Alex.

AO, you might want to ease up on your approach here. Like they say on WWP, don't import drama from other sites to this one.

As far as I know, the mods never gave a reason for banning you, so I'm sure people are willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Maybe best to leave the whole subject alone.

Also, it may not be constructive to speculate too much on what happened, as there's a lot of information we don't know. It is odd that he didn't get very far away from his car, though.

So that's the standard now? Not making the world a better place, but, Scis haven't killed as many people as the Catholic Church, so they're good?

Hey, the Catholic Church has been around for close to 2,000 years. COS has been around for a little over a half-century. From what I can see, they're not wasting any time in playing catch up!

Of course, it seems like they really only kill their own . . .

Anybody have an idea as to who this was?

ETA: And Tilse should be ruled out since he is 55 years old.
 
I'd love to know what this guy said to the guards about why he was there, etc...(even if it was crazy nut ramblings)...if he WAS an ex-scn, I'd like to know more details about him from his family/friends and see a tape of what went on.....

A man who was shot and killed after wielding two samurai swords at the Church of Scientology's Celebrity Centre in Hollywood was from out of state and had recently purchased the swords, coroner's investigators said today.

Police detained the security guard who shot the man for questioning but said a surveillance tape backed his claim that he fired his semiautomatic handgun to protect himself and two colleagues.

"The evidence is very clear the security officers were defending their safety," said Deputy Chief Terry S. Hara of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police did not release the name of the guard or the man killed in the shooting, which occurred about noon Sunday. An investigator said the man had a history with the church but was not a member now. The tape showed the man arriving at the Celebrity Centre's Bronson Avenue parking lot in a red convertible, getting out of the vehicle and approaching a trio of security guards and waving a sword in each hand, Hara said.

He said the man, who was described as being in his 40s, was "close enough to hurt them" when the guard fired. The man was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Det. Wendi Berndt said the man was involved with the church "a long time ago."

"There was a previous relationship, but it is unclear to what degree," she said.

A teenager who saw the man arrive in the parking lot said he stopped the car abruptly in the driveway and climbed out with a 5-foot sword in his hand and an angry expression on his face.

Tony Marquez, 17, said the man, who was bald and had tattoos on his arms, walked toward the building, then returned to the car to get the other sword.

"I thought it was part of a show," said Marquez, of Ontario. He and his mother entered the building before the shooting began.

Police said the guard worked for a private security company. Detectives cordoned off the Franklin Avenue complex with yellow tape as investigators combed through the man's Toyota Solara. The incident occurred at one of Hollywood's most distinctive landmarks. Originally a luxury hotel, the eight-story building was built in the style of a 17th century French castle with a striking white facade and turrets that loom over the nearby Hollywood Freeway.

The church remade the building into a facility aimed at celebrities 39 years ago. According to a church website, the Celebrity Centre caters to "artists, politicians, leaders of industry, sports figures and anyone with the power and vision to create a better world." The complex includes a restaurant, theater and hotel. Representatives of the church did not return calls.

"I have no information," said a woman who answered the phone at the Celebrity Centre.

The facility is ringed by a fence, and security cameras dot the property's perimeter. Guards on bikes also patrol the area.

"That is one thing about living here, you get free security," said Brant Hoibin, 34, who lives in an apartment next to the Celebrity Centre.

Good topic for a different thread than this. Intrusive religions only tame themselves to compete better with governments.

Today, if they had their way, they probably wouldn't kill anybody... However, the Constitution - forget THAT. Modern religions wouldn't still torture, but they'd force you to sit and pray, repent, audit, RPF, or whatever f'ed up method they view as the only way toward their goals.

Of course in various spots even today, they cut your damn head off. Governments are trying their best to solve that little issue. They are doing fairly well at it actually (if only for their own security - they don't care much about my particular neck, only securing their tax racket and re-election).

Actually the Roman Catholic Church saved lives with their inquisition, believe it or not. In Christian "Squirrel Land", ie Germany and France, hundrerds of thousands of people died in religious wars while the Inquisition killed little over one thousand people during it's application. You need to see context Alex.

LRH's opinions are biased by old Anglo-Saxon propaganda against Spain and the Catholic Church.

Still in this case CoS security should have used a tazer or pepper spray. But they are equipped to kill, totally DM.

Anyway, my problem is not with the security guard for his actions. There was video of the encounter from a million angles and if a guy is waving around samurai swords at your head from five feet away and approaching I doubt you are going to try and talk to him. My problem is with what the Church did to the guy or didn't do to the guy with the swords.

The answers I was hearing yesterday were answers that investigators regurgitated faster than a mama bird to a baby.

"There was a previous relationship, but it is unclear to what degree."

Sounds to me like when the investigators were investigating they talked to some spokesperson for the Church and this is what they told them. Meanwhile, I bet the Church staff were hard at work poring through all of the records pertaining to the guy and what he knew and what he had done and his auditing sessions and everything else. The answers given to investigators are so vague as to be insulting. Obviously this guy had a grudge. If it was so long ago, then why he is still carrying a grudge? Something must have happened. Did he lose his family? Couldn't afford the monthly payments? You don't just walk away from a Church, wait a long time and then decide to storm the guardhouse. Something is going on here and the Church and the police better not just stick to this crap script they played with yesterday. I want to see who or what was the reason the guy went over the edge. Maybe no one pushed him, but I would like to see his entire Church history before coming to that conclusion."
 
It's interesting the security guards are out-sourced now and aren't Sea Org members. That wasn't the case a few years ago.

I hear the new security guards are members of an ultra-elite unit call the Star Org, and sign a 50 Quadrillion year contract, and are guardians of the new Platinum Age of Tech evolution, which will come out when all orgs are the size of nation states.

Bullshit! Any human rights violations are significant. Scientology is a fake religion that has been involved in manslaughter. Any instances of murder are as yet unproven.

It appears that I was rather remiss in posting without taking into consideration the location of this incident.

And perhaps I should have been more careful in my use of language. If the life of the guard and his colleagues were genuinely in danger, then he would be justified in taking any necessary action to protect the same.

However, the point that I intended to make was, did the guard warn the assailant that he was armed and prepared to shoot if he did not put down the swords? Also, could the guards have simply retreated to avoid a confrontation and phoned the police? And, could the guards have used non-lethal means to subdue and restrain the assailant, e.g. TASER, pepper spray etc?

I have no doubt that the CoS will somehow attempt to tie this incident to Anonymous and complain that they need protection from their critics. The question that the media should be asking is, “Why would an ex-member of a ‘Church’ that claims to have the solution to all mental and spiritual problems, want to drive onto their property and start behaving in this manner?”

You will see at my trial on video that the same thing happened to me, without provocation and except that I'm still alive.

True. All are significant. The RCC's history is bloodier because

A) they're a lot older, had more time to commit abuses

and

B) for much of their existence, they were part of a theocracy. Theocracies are always eventually abusive.

The fact that a group that exists and was created in a democratic country is so abusive (the group, I mean. Not the country.) could be an even sadder reflection on CofS than some of the hideous historical facts wrt the RCC.

He is an L-11 completion. There is no way they would ever let a heavy psych case on the L's. But we have seen that they are no longer delivering the L's properly, as witness Lisa McPherson and Jason Beghe, for example.......

So, this is no "dis-gruntled ex-psych case"...

First Amendment concerns" are at stake. It is illegal to discriminate
