There's a big difference between taking drugs recreationally and adopting an addiction lifestyle. I have known people who have been involved with dealing/prostitution/crime etc and that is more of a lifestyle choice that the drugs are just a part of. I think that is what has happened to this poor girl.

Many of us also know people who are long term recreational drug users who have steady responsible jobs, so I wouldn't see drugs as the problem here more one of the symptoms.

Your quite welcome! :)

It's a fascinating book. Some of the traditions are almost (DNA) level into human beings, not literally, but they're really ingrained into some cultures or an inherent part of living that people unconsciously follow.

For instance when i was a kid over my friends house, Philipino's, not Roman or Greek at all, but same idea. His family had almost a shrine room in their house. A separate room with a sort of altar, and photo's of deceased family members. There was no emphasis on an eternal flame, per se but they had candles, etc. and the light shown through the window in a soft diffuse way that was beautiful. Made a big impression on me as a 12 year old. I just took it as some type of cultural thing I didn't quite understand but deep in my bones I felt it very fitting and "right".

A couple years ago after I found and read The Ancient City I saw that my Mom has a corner desk with photo's of family members that while not an hearth/shrine fills that function (sort of) in her house. I bet a lot of people do these things unconsciously.

So I began to notice things after reading the book.

It's really an education in human culture and traditions, which made me realize also, the embarrassment of riches in our culture(s). Riches that a venal, crass cult like $cientology deems useless and unimportant because their venal and crass founder says so. What a laugh. Poor a**holes.

I couldn't find a free Kindle version, but this is close enough, and you can read it on your Kindle or Kindle App Android. No idea if it works on $Apple products.

True, I have several professional musician friends who smoke pot every day & work their asses off in their profession.

And, I know some people who curl up, do drugs & only get off the couch to go get more ( Trust Fund babies don't have to work ).

In the US, removing drug use as criminal activity would solve some ( I said some NOT all ) problems & add tax revenue ( for Pork Barrel Projects ).

But to the OP, in the US many families have an addict or two to deal with - or not.

In typical scientology fashion, looks like dm might have chosen to not confront the issue in his family. It ain't like he lacks the money to get her real help.

A lot of the women involved in prostitution are in the business because they are too dysfunctional to do anything else.

They do drugs to help them try to forget how shitty their lives are, and their lives stay shitty because they are too drugged up to do anything else.

Most likely his attitude is like he was with his dad: "If she dies, she dies".

Which is first, the chicken or the egg? The opposite is equally true - women who begin clean with only minor issues end up on drugs and dysfunctional to deal with being a prostitute and then become locked into a lifestyle of addiction from which they cannot easily escape.

Few do, but some actually do escape.

And, I've known a few women who have chosen to be prostitutes - college educated, good looking, don't do drugs & only are light social drinkers.

They are expensive & they live well, travel, etc.

Just like their are very attractive young ladies who are exotic dancers that love to dance & make more money - easier - than they can with their degree from a good college.

It is ALL about choices. Would I want my child a hooker or pole dancer, but, adults get to make choices.

Some people choose to be homeless, or go live off the land in the woods, or fish or hunt or got o Wall Street - some even choose to become scientologists !

We all walk our own path of choice & most often somebody else can't stand our chosen path.

Housemates in a Cult group home I lived in were a very nice middle ages Mexican couple...recently married.

They spent every weekend....selling Dianetics books...at swap meets and such.

Why did they do this?

The wife told me that she had acted in some porno movies in Mexico...when younger....and the Cult did not want her to join staff...due to that.

So...as "amends" they sold the books on weekends.

The Cult basically turned her into a slave....giving away all her free time.

Edited: It made me think, behind "that" dedicated book one seller......there might be another reason!

I met a person that owns a prostitution business south of the border. The problem with having a whore house is you are continually at the mercy of thugs, gangs, police that want to shake you down, and dead beats that don't want to pay afterward, ahem. The whores don't much like being stuck there all day, etc.

So this is his business model: He hires girls that are young - many are college students. When a john wants a date he goes to their web site, picks out a girl that interests him, calls the phone #. The madam checks the girl's schedule with her via cell phone. They set a time / place and he pays by credit card. A macho bouncer type drives over, picks her up, takes her to the location, and takes her back to class or where ever.

Look at the benefits - no being shaken down - his office location is unknown to thugs and police, the girls lead normal lives, with occasional interruptions when they put out, no hanging around the cat house all day bored, money cleared the bank before she gets her ride, good selection of ladies to choose from. Most are in their late tees and twenties. The older ones don't get many calls to duty.

Everybody gets what they want.

Years ago, I knew of strippers who paid for their bridge by dancing. It paid well, and those days the EOs & MAAs looked the other way. Now, you get a sec check if you look at your privates in the mirror the wrong way. That old pendulum keeps swinging....

This is an interesting point. When I was involved there were incidents such as 'you took psychiatric [prescription] drugs when you were younger so you have to do courses y,y,z before you do such and such a course'.

These behaviours before you were involved meant that you had to make amends before doing certain parts of the tech. This kind of made sense until I found out that my C/S had been convicted and jailed [in a different country] for a major financial fraud but was one of the main movers and shakers at the org.

I wonder if dear Uncle David who allegedly controls a 2 billion dollar 501(c)3 fund plus real estate assets of at least that, used to fund teams of lawyers to keep whistle-blowers at bay and to keep at least an arm's length between himself and a court ordered deposition as well as fund teams of PIs to surveil and harass opponents and dissenters, will be able to spare $150 out of that $2,000,000,000.00 to put up bond for his drug criminal niece.

He can't. To do so would be a violation of the pertinent IRS statutes and regulations. To do so would be improper inurement, a big no no in nonprofit law.

Plus it violates a big LRH policy - you are entirely responsible for your own condition. The very policy that justifies every action a person does or receives - good or bad, such as being disconnected from, or fair gamed, or arrested for prostitution.

Additionally- it would violate another policy about not validating a down stat.

So, Jump, here you have the perfect FU to David - you can put up the $150 your own self.

Oh - that was months ago. Nevermind!
